Link worked for me and software works with blue USB to FDI type cable and chip with no modifications.. THANKS!
That diagram was originally drawn by me back in 2012..... Additional info .... NOT ALL makes and models of USB-Serial adaptor leads work.
I recommend using a USB-Serial adapter that uses a Chiphead chipset e.g. CH340 /CH341
Did you use rs232 levels or TTL levels?
@@georgegriffith7599 There's a crazy long forum post on buggies gone wild about 'programming curtis controller'. Looks like it's pretty obviously RS232, though. The power lead is 15V, that's a dead giveaway. RS232 is 15V, and there's no way anything TTL would have volts that high.

Hi, how in the world can this idea connect to a 1205-117 controller? I bought the cheap ch340 also got a breakout and a molex and everything I do fails.. all I need is this controller to be ITS then I will trash all of this..

I saw a long discussion on Buggies Gone Wild where they seemed to indicate TTL levels were required. You said TTL didn't work. So, that means you used RS232 levels? What USB to Serial adapter did you use?
A great video. I have subscribed. A quick question. Your blue/yellow/black colors appear to be standard. I bought the usb-serial adapter and a straight-through serial cable. I cut the male end off the serial cable. Pin 2 of the female was yellow. Pin 3 was blue. On both the female and male ends of the serial cable. This is backwards from the colors you used. Is there a reason for this? On my cable, I would run the yellow from pin 2 of the adapter to J3-3, and yellow from pin 3 to J3-1?? What happens if I get them backward?
Ur TX rx would just be backwards nothing would happen you just need to swap around.
It goes from transmit to receive and receive to transmit,,,Plus a ground! So from USB cable pin 1 is ground, Then pin 2 of controller is ground ,, pin 3 of USB (transmit )to pin 1 of controller , pin 2 receive of USB goes to pin 3 of controller.. Worked for me... got to change perimeters and monitor the controller... i know your comment is a year old but in case anyone else needs to know
On the sheet at the start of the video you have the DB9 connector REAR VIEW. Below it you have a picture of the DB9 from the front. The pinout is the same for both. What gives?

YES i did it recently worked out great...I used the blue cable...not a standard rs232 but one using the FTDI chip ,, look up this description..

What I get is "USB CAN Adapter: unable to reset usb adapter". Any ideas? I have 36V on B+ and B- and key switch to B+. Software in a laptop and usb-serial adapter to the pins on the 4 pin molex on the curtis.

@@heroesinnombre Ok this happen to me. Just pull the J1 one wire. The one that get power from your key. Make jumper that will go from J1 to your main bat bank. You need all 36 volts going to it. Then plug in the computer. See if this works.
