I am so impressed with this girl an her work ethics, didnt think there was any more women out there like that, Eric you are a VERY lucky man. That being said , farm girl i just have one lil piece of advice an it is easyer said than done for sure, dont let the small stuff get you so upset, it will get you hurt, (as you found out) or killed, farming is a dangerous business, stay focused, in the blink of an eye bad things can happen. Flat tires, getting stuck, rain on the hay, thats all part of farming, my granddad had a great saying he'ed say when that stuff happened, it was "if that's the worst thing that happens today, then we had a good day, thank you Lord", an he said it alot. May God bless you an your family, stay safe. Its a good life if you dont let it kill you or drive you crazy in the process

Sorry about what happened Farm Girl. My Grandfather farmed till he was 81 so he farmed well over 70 years and I remember countless times when things like this would happen at the worst time but never in all the bad times did he ever complain or get mad. He always told me if Farming was easy anyone could do it so to complain does not get the baler fixed. I also remember quite well that in all those years he never rode around the hay field in an air conditioned tractor with the stereo on. He broke many bones over the years and got knocked out by a BULL (HIS LAST BULL) cause he made the mistake of turning his back at the wrong moment. He never once blamed the Bull for doing what came naturally to him. He would simply say it's something you learn from. I give you and Eric praise for doing an almost thankless job that is full of the unexpected everyday. I think it helped that he was a very religious man. So remember that bad things on a farm never stop and If it was easy anyone could do it.

Hey Farm Girl, I used to use those bale carts and here's a tip for unhooking:
put the pin in upside down when you first hook up, then when you're ready to unhook, chock the bale cart tires so it can't roll,
then put you're tractor in reverse and put just a little back pressure to squeeze the bales on the tongue,
and the pin will fall to the ground and you can drive away

At 7:51 You are in the air over the jack. Here's my experience at age 17. I am now 61. We loaded dry horse manure for the garden into the half ton truck. We had about 3/4 of a ton load on the truck and as we drove home we had a flat. My brother was 15 at the time. So I pull out the jack-all jack to jack up the truck to change the tire. We had a spare as the location was 1/4 mile from home. As I am jacking the truck I am basically in the same situation as yourself, trying to jack too heavy a load. The next thing I know, my brother is calling to me. I open my eyes to find that I had been hit by the jack handle when it sprung! It hit me in the sternum, and mid - left lower jaw. The jaw is dented to this day. I was covered in blood as I bit through the tongue. I was out cold. My brother ran home, got the town truck and loaded me in. He drove me in to the hospital and he was driving on the highway underage. We got in to emergency and my mom, the ER nurse signed me in. She was frightened, upset and mad that I was in there. Was observed for a day at home for concussion. To this day my cardiologists say that my heart has an abnormal tilt and agree that my continual sternum pain and heart tilt was caused by that jack handle. Two days later I had to go back, jack up that truck and change the tire. I had to offload manure first before doing the job. Just a word from a kid that was too young to take on some of the responsibilities that I took on. When it is overwhelming, wait and get help from an expert. Those kinds of predicaments are not worth injury or loss of your life. I know you are tough as nails, but your life isn't worth rain on hay. Live to hay, another day! All the best to you folks!

throw a log chain around the frame of the bailer and the front end loader. lift the bailer with the front end loader. put a block or something to keep the frame from falling down. pull the wheel and get'er fixed.

1 time to invest in a cordless impact gun. 2 an old trick for mounting that style of rim that requires bolts is to find a long bolt the same size and thread as your lug bolt and cut the head off so you make an alignment tool to get the tires back on easier

    • @MrBogeyone
      @MrBogeyone 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I was gong to suggest putting at least two regular lug STUDS in each side. Never really understood the idea of using bolts like that in anything other than truck or tractor wheels.

I would try to have 2 spare tires that way if you have a flat you can just swap the tire and rim out. Even if they are old truck tires. I've used a truck tire on a bailer before and plenty of wagons. You should invest in a battery impact so you don't have to screw around with a ratchet.

If you are open to some advice. When trying to put the heavy(or any) wheel on.
Lower the jack slowly so it comes close to the ground. Than put the wheel on and just lower it a bit more so you can "catch" the top screws in. Basically use the jack to rest the wheel on the ground so you can just try and get the holes right. When you don't have to hold the wheel you can turn the bearing to position it right.
BTW good job New Holland for not having fixed bolts.
When you catch the top 2 just jack it up so it can seat properly. Keep them facing up. Don't Tighten the bolts until you have them all in, just hand screw them.
    Hope it helps.
Oh BTW I don't know how you call it but We call it Rare(or loose its hard to translate) tire here. Its when it gets older Tire get weaker and micro holes occur due to rubber loosing elasticity. So it constantly loses pressure and when loaded and bumped, like on a hole or a rut, it creates a hole from a micro fracture. That may be your issue. Maybe get a new inner tube if you can.

That short socket wrench really doesn't give you much leverage. I bet you if had about a 3 foot long piece of pipe you could slide over the wrench handle, you could bust them bolts loose all by yourself. ;-)

The possibility is that you made too tight a turn leaving the tire as a pivot point, pinching the tube and separating the sidewall. That tractor represents a large capital expense for baling hay. An old "M" would be more than enough.

You had bad week with flat tire and changing the hay cart. I made a good investment 5 years ago by getting a cordless impack which will loosen the lug bolts or lug nuts which ever is holding the tire. There are several different ones out made by Dewalt, Kobalt, Milwaukee. My is a 24V Dewalt 3/4'' drive and I also have Kobalt 3/8 drive. I've been using my impacks to change flat tires and other repairs that I have worked on. If you have a Lowes or Home Depot near you check them out. I keep mine in the tractor cab along with sockets and extensions. Once you get one you'll be glad you had it! You also put a lot of effort in working on equipment or what have you. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

    Hi farm girl
My son and myself are first time farmers as well.
I wrote you once before as you were attempting to change a tire before..my advice to try and help.....be prepared
I admire your patience and willingness to work..however once you have a problem you need to be better prepared...a aluminum jack that is considerably lighter would be helpful..but a bottle jack will fit easily in your cab..and for only a few dollars more you can or should have is a battery operated impact wrench to take off the lugs
I know advise sometimes is unwarranted..but I like you guys and have learned from similar experiences
Please don’t wash any more tractors like the last video....my day was ruined...LOL

I've worked on a few balers, and after working on a few of them I'm convinced that they were purposely engineered to fail 37.3 seconds after you just got done fixing the last thing on them that broke. And then once you FINALLY get it to run more 37.3 seconds at a time and think it's all good, BAM, tension is too low or some other thing will be out of adjustment. You got it done and that's what matters, but you might think about keeping some good sling chains so you can pick stuff like that up with the loader and if you don't want to rig it then a decent bottle jack is a better idea than an "automotive" floor jack, they lift more weight and are a little safer. Yes, our baler is tubless. The tire guy may have put a tube in it because it has been giving them problems. And when she let the weight down it hissed she said ,most likely a bead issue. If it keeps going flat I'd pull the tube and do what 70 elco suggested.

As much as I love watching you wrestle that tire. Let the jack down till the tire is on the ground and not putting weight on the hub then you can spin the hub by hand and line the holes up. By the way your a looker for sure lol

You need a 4-5' pipe. Like the one from the top of a res. chain link fence. This will give you the leverage to get stuff done. Also a piece of rope to wrap around it and use to pull the pin out. Also if you back the triler up to some blocks it will take some pressure off the pin.

  • @l.horseman5704
    @l.horseman5704 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Farm Girl in order to make your job easier to disconnect the E-Z load basket from the baler. Get a different type of pin, the type you need has a spring wire that actually fits in a groove on the entrance end of the pin. Now when you attach a empty basket you install the pin upside down. Before you use the spring wire you need a large nut that fits loosely over the pin then you let the spring wire slip in that groove. What that nut does keeps the spring wire from getting damaged by the holes on the basket hitch. Now all you do to unhook is to release the spring wire out of the groove by just using a hammer. Once you have done that just get in the tractor and jiggle the baler back and forth. The pin will fall out on the ground. If it still hung up use the hammer and a crow bar rest the crow bar end on the head end of the pin hit the bar so the impact down ward pressure extracts the pin. I have used my hay baskets for 20 years. You are doing a some other adjustments that are not really called for. I do not adjust the angle plate on the basket. Never lift the tongue using that plate. Only pickup the tongue by grabbing the tongue it's self. Email me. I know what it is like to bale hay and beat mother nature's storms. thehorseman322@aol.com

You said it. Put a bar under to pry upward. Where was your bar ? Lost like your gloves ? I use what's called a wrecking bar. Very handy for lifting, holding or prying. Be vigilant using tools. Saves thumbs and fingers. Gloves have a way of walking away. So I buy a cheap bulk pack of a dozen pair or so. Heck, I still have to look for them. IT's crazy.

  • @darrelfuhrman8217

Suzanne here is what I like to do.
1 you need to get a strong 1/2’ cordless impact wrench, I use a Makita that is in excess of $400, but it will take off a semi Budd style rim.
2 I take out 2, 8” to 14” tapered punches for holding up the rim on to the hub. Put one punch in a hole in the rim & hub. Then try to turn the tire so that the punch is on the top, hurry up, stick the other punch in a hole.
Push both punches in hard, start a bolt, now you can relax!

Carry a ratchet strap and when you need to pull the pin, wrap the strap around the tongue on thd tractor and around the trailer tongue and ratchet them together to loosen the pin. Or put the rig in reverse for a second to hopefully push the bailer toward the trailer. I use the ratchet strap. Great video and i gotta hand it to you, your a tough cookie!

Hi WT Farm Girl, one suggestion for your "tire" issues. Most of my implements other than soil preparation are from New Holland (older models). At one point, I replaced all the rims so that they are 15", same bolt patters (had to switch some hubs) except for the Manure spreader. I have also one extra-wide rim and one regular rim that are mounted with Ag implement tires. I always have couple of spares for the times that the garage would be closed or the tire ruined. Have a nice day and wish you a good 2019 season, Ciao, L (ME, USA)

Good For You! Nice trick with the leverage bar and thats not cheating..... its using your head!! (a wood 2x4 works well aslo, its flat) ; here is a tip for you regarding changing tires (I couldn't lift that tire either) . On cars and trucks with lug bolts you need to first thread a long stud into one of the threaded holes , then as you lift the tire, as you are, you only need to line up one wheel hole with that protruding threaded stud and HANG the tire in the proper place!!! Now as its hanging there you can work with it. Very common technique used on Audi automobiles or any other hub that does not have wheel studs on it. Oh ya..... bring a spare with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you need a breaker bar, longest you can get. a four foot length of steel piper just big enough to fit around the wrench will also help, use a wrench with a good warranty for this, they might break. I use the pipe and breaker to get off the spindle nuts on my mower deck, they self tighten even when I use no seize.
