We don't have much gunfire, but we are on a busy farm with transports and cabs moving around a lot and often parked close to the horse barn. Our horses are all used to the hiss of airbrakes now, but I find it interesting that they are more concerned about stationary vehicles than those in motion driving past us. I figure it is because they know that trucks in motion don't engage the airbrakes, and they don't like the unpredictability of a truck just sitting there doing nothing. I have spent a lot of time just walking around the parked trucks to help my boy stop being so worried about something that may or may not happen. He's not even afraid of the hiss, just the thought that it could happen with him close by.

We have noticed that ours are more concerned about ATV's that are still and quiet than those that are running. It's interesting out on the trail.

Where I live there is firearms deer hunting so lots of sighting in riffles for the big hunt starting Nov 9th.
We run into people sighting in riffles our horses are unfazed by the loud noise they make. Also run into people grouse hunting so our horses are very used to gun fire.
Really not much spooks them when it comes to motorized vehicles ATVs dirt bikes big logging trucks, dump trucks. Even pickup trucks with tarps fluttering as they go by at 60 mph.
We have 2 individuals who's goal in life is to scare our horses anytime we run into them on the trail.
They have big ATVs an get as close as they can an as fast as they can going through puddles spraying our horses with water. Our horses don't even bat an eye.
Unfortunately there are people who have no regard for our horses just go flying by us whether on the trail or dirt road.
Don't look forward when the day comes I have to start new horses an train them in to deal with all our current boys deal with.
Our boys are worth their weight in gold when it comes to trail riding.

I boarded at a facility near a large shooting park and we rode trail in the desert next to it. It was very helpful that my gelding was trained for being shot off of, it never worried him at all.

Just shows you how they can be acclimatised to things - like those ppl you see struggling to use a spray bottle....

I wonder if it's because people often introduce the spray bottle while forcing the horse to stand still? What if they did it walking at first? Tim's calm confidence helps a lot, too. That "we're just walking around, nothing to worry about" attitude gives the horse more trust, too, I think?

Why would a private individual train a mounted police horse? Normally they train their own horses. Bit weird
