    Oh my word, you're my favorite person at this moment. I've been battling sweet gums for 7 years. Cut one down, 3 come back!! With a vengeance.

    Sounds like the banana tree invasion I fought in my teens. Cut them down, grows back, freeze kills them, they grew back, dig them up, missed a root runner and up they come again. Worse than that was that they are a haven for large roaches *shudders* I think it was about 4 years before I won that battle.

    Thanks for the tip. I call them weed trees. 15 feet in a year is a slow one. The neighbor
    has one that keeps growing thru his fence and has tore the hell out of it twice even after
    cutting it down. I'll give him this link in case he wants to take care of it once and for all.
    Those fence posts ain't cheap and the 4 hours he spends cutting it down each year is
    priceless...

    I got this stuff and now that it's spring, I've used it to kill about 100 small sprouting hackberries all growing from the trunks of the ones I cut down last year. Also I've used it on an invasive ivy, that I haven't been able to get to. Just a drop or two on a leaf kills that sprout in a day or two. So happy to be getting my flower bed back. Thanks Ron.

      Man it’s good stuff my whole lawn got saved by it. I literally had sprouts covering the whole back lawn now none of them have came back!

    Thanks for the info. I have hackberry tree saplings lining my yard. Same issue you have, they come right back. I've been told to peel the bark and paint on round up trunk killer. I'll try this instead.

    Looks good... we tend to use Glyphosate here in the UK (although it has now been found to be carcinogenic) but that Tordon (Active ingredient Picloram) looks good. I saw that Picloram was used as part of "Agent White" for deforestation in the Vietnam war... so sounds like it would do the trick on your back yard.... if not move up to Agent Orange.

  • @13squier
    @13squier 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Something to be aware of with the ingredient Picloram is that it doesn't bind to soil or break down for several years. So it can translocate through the roots of the target tree and move through soil and ground water and damage non-target vegetation. In this aspect concentrated Glyphosate or Triclopyr are better options.

    I appreciate this so much. I bought a house 3 years ago and I ripped the privacy fence down in the back because it was decaying and falling apart and what I found behind the privacy fence was worse than what I was dealing with before. A forest of trees coming up all over the place. They were shooting up sprouts all over the place. 3 trees grew through my chain link fence and up and around the wooden fence post from the privacy fence.
    I'm going to get some of this tordon right now.
    Thank you so much.
    I tried using your link but it said that it can't be delivered to the address that I live at and I don't know why but I'm going to Menards.

    If the paper industry hasn't caught onto that stuff yet, they are missing out. Sounds like they could just plant 2 lots of fields and harvest each one every couple of years! No re planting required!

    I love Tordon products. I have used this specific herbicide to kill Tree of Heaven. I'm in the Pittsburgh area and we have Spotted Lantern flies and they love Tree of Heaven. This is the only thing that would kill it. I did a hack and squirt method to kill it. You take a hatchet and make short, shallow hacks into the trunk all around it and then squirt the Tordon into the hacks. Within 2 weeks the branches were wilting and within 2 months pretty much everything was turning very brittle. 8 month later the thing was DEAD! I can't recommend this product enough.

    I, too, have elms out the bazoo (in CO) because the developers of my neighborhood - some 100 years ago - decided to plant elms everywhere because they grew fast and gave a lot of shade. The seeds, though, fall like snow and pile up in drifts when they go to seed, and they leave those little seedlings you can hardly see until they start growing into trees. Question: when you treat the stumps, do any DESIRABLE nearby trees or bushes get affected?

    Those look like winged elm tree leaves. I have the same problem with a very tall tree in the neighbors yard that hangs over a space in our yard. Last year I had HUNDREDS of little baby trees. This year I used 2 row blankets and laid them over the space during the time the seeds fall in the spring. Worked great. Did not have the same problem in that space at least.

    I think we have a field Elm tree and samplings all throughout our lawn. Our trees our beautiful but now our beautiful lawn is growing tree leaves everywhere. I wonder if we use this product if it will kill the lawn too or if we can just re-seed around the tree root.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience is it just kills the tree you put it on, but you have to do it right after you cut it or it won't absorb it. It doesn't do anything to the grass....

    I think I have this problem. Just picked up a Moon Cresta cocktail too. You are my favorite channel for a few reasons.
    Can you show how you apply it? I am just chopping the spouts when they come up. The roots are interconnected. They are tearing up my front lawn. Last owner let it grow as shrubbery in front of windows. It is not shrubbery. Just got to your application section.

    Hi, wow! Thank you for this video. I have 70 acres and have real issues with these trees on my property. I have to bush hog about 3-4 times a year just to keep ontop of them, and pay someone to do it as I don't have the equipment. They seem to multiply every year. I swear I have double this year! They are a nightmare. Do you think there is anything or a type of company I can use to come in and do this on a bigger scale? I have no idea where to start but it's too much for me to cope with on my own. Thank you for your video. This gave me faith that all isn't lost.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  ปีที่แล้ว

      In a situation like that where you have just TONS of it, acres of it, I'd probably use some kind of chemical application on a whole area, which would basically kill everything there though. After awhile you could replant grass or whatever you'd like.
      yes they do grow back it seems like twice as many! You might not be able to treat it like this individually when you have a huge area though... I was doing each individual shoot just because I'm trying to save the grass and everything else there....
      Good luck with it!

      @hvequinellc4865
      My folks have 40 acres and if your on a well any poisons your using on a large scale can be hazardous to your health as the chemicals leech into the water. My parents have been living there for 45 years and they got their water tested 15 years ago and showed extremely high levels of arsenic poisoning. The reason they got it tested was they both kept getting deathly I’ll. They both have bladder cancer. My pops has luekemia, diabetes ,melanoma and lived through a heart attack…moms list is long also and almost blind. So my biggest advice is get your water tested regularly if your on a well.
      I’m not saying not to use chemicals because I don’t know how else to keep up with that much property.
      My parents had lots of animals as well that were effected. They where breeders of Morgan horses, German Short hairs, Specialty Rabbits. Very sad they never thought about getting the water tested until they were already sick.

    What can I do to get rid of hundreds of baby elm seedlings in my yard and the seeds before they start growing? Do I really need to cut down the mother tree? Even I do, neighbor has one too!!! In fact my tree was started from theirs!!!
