I used to have one of these basses. I loved it. Bought a more expensive bass and sold the Jackson. Hind sight being 20/20 and all, I'd still have the Jackson.
Heya Dave, I'm going to suggest just using a wide empty tape roll and make a slot in it to rest the guitars in the playing position while on the bench.. Perhaps not even completely empty or wrapped with something sexy and durable. Also just glue on a rim of whatever foam or comfy product you like.
I have a Jackson acoustic bass I found in a dumpster with a broken neck. Well I fixed the neck, bottomed out the truss rob, and now use it only for finger exersize (sorry I can't spell today). It's really all it is good for.
I have no moeny but I would go collect pop bottles to watch your vids...finance it that way...it's about the only job left in albertus canaduh/canuckastan...great vids as usual Dave : )
I just recently bought a Jackson JS3Q bass and its the strongest sounding bass that I ever owned . I seen the Jackson concert basses throughout the years and didnt pay much attention to them but damn im glad that I decided to get it and it sounds great through my little ampeg ba 110 amp . but I did get the ampeg analog bass preamp pedal and that pedal works wonders and it gives me many different tones . but I go with the heavy low end tone with a clear sound with the highs , but not to much highs
Hey, how'bout one of those neck pillows. You know, the one you would use when taking a flight? You could sit the bass on that to give it support but still leave the output jack free...maybe?
I picked up a 6-string for $100 because it was never set up and was actually unplayable. It took about a week to get the neck right, but after that I could adjust everything easily and it plays very well. So there is a use for badly set up guitars that were purchased from Guitar Center by people who know nothing about actually playing a bass. People like me can snag those guitars for cheap ;)
12:48 Hey Dave, I know that the output jack was gooched before, but you could put less stress on all the models that have the jack in the same spot by cutting out a pieceof styrofoam...a styrofoam donut if you like...an pull the test-chord through a hole. No pressure on the jack, you can play with no problems. It's like the big brother of the styrofoam pieces that protects the 3-way-switcheroos right from the factory. I like your idea of paying 10 cents without all the pc crap.
So Dave, I recently got a new bass and it seems pretty well set up, but the 12th fret on the D string buzzes out. I initially thought it was a high fret, but wouldn't that affect all the strings? I'm thinking the neck could use a little more relief, but I figured I'd get a "professional" opinion.
I’m quite aware of the physics of a truss rod. I’ve been playing guitar, and repairing my own for almost 50 years now. None of my guitars make that kind of noise when adjusting a minimally lubed truss rod nut... nothing to be scared about...
I cuss all the time working on guitars....lol. No need of the bullshit this forum has turned into, gonna still watch if you leave this joke known as YT. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Hey, Dave, got a question for you. I recently bought a telecaster and I removed the pick guard to find a cavity (somewhat smaller than the guard but shaped similarly). Nothing's routed there, it's just a hole between the cutaway and the volume/tone knobs. It's a Harley Benton brand, I dunno if that makes a difference or not. Any idea as to its purpose? Is the hole there to make the guitar lighter? Maybe the factory does it in case they need to do something for other models? I'm not entirely sure, but if you could shed some light on my curiosity, I'd appreciate it. Cheers, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Dave i love your videos and watch all of them and some more than once thank you for what you do im 65 year old with stage 4 cancer and ive played all my life keeep up your videos
Hey Dave, Have you ever heard of the Guitologist? They demonetized his video, because he mentioned "wire strippers" in the title? TH-cam demonetized him for the word , "strippers", it getting nuts, Just sayin', I would pay 10¢ a vid to watch great content... Maybe even 15¢ ....
Dave if you moved to a channel where you could swear and curse as much as you felt necessary I would pay for sure. Surely everyone sees you do this to brighten up a narrative - with the aim of helping people. Your passion for all things guitar and cooking is why I was drawn in. Not to mention fixing a noisy Jaguar bass ... Short scale vintage modified Squier was my first bass last February and now it plays to well that I bought some long scale basses. And these are all nicely setup thanks to your videos. Happy holidays to you, your family and friends ... Please make some music and sell the mp3's.
These C20 series Jackson's were kind of a low point and gaudy. I'd take the slightly older Mij Professional Concert basses or even the modern JS series concerts over these. (I own a Professional concert bass ex.)
The thing that sucks, is they all have their problems. Patreon just tried to up fees & people flipped out. TH-cam is the biggest and most watched content provider, it sucks, but it's life. TH-cam also helps people spreads their other merch, so even if videos are messed up, there are still other avenues to make money. You should never put everything in one bucket anyways, why not keep doing Patreon too?
+salmonline I guess you work for free, right?! Make a video then when you make a comment like this, it might have some value... Or maybe you're a communist & only know how to work for free
Dave Erving Evader Knives I’m wondering if salmonline is referring to Dave? If so, I assume he doesn’t realize he’s Canadian, and is just as stupid as he is presumptuous.
Don't use the cheap, chicken shit cords that they give away at the music store! LOL That was a seriously funky bass design. Good work brother. At least it plays a helluva lot better now than when he bring it to ya. Cheers
(Use the Googles, Luke!) 'Melmac', besides being the fictional planet that Alf the alien hailed from, was widely used in American diningware and other consumer products during the 1960s and 70s. Composed of a hard plastic resin with ability to inject non smearing or wearing colors made multicolored and patterned matchnig sets of cups, plates, saucers, bowls, serving dishes, platters, salad tongs... ad nauseum. It was hailed as being virtually unbreakable, durable and dishwasher safe. You really had to wing one at a brick wall to get it to shatter; if you just dropped it, it would just laugh at you and bounce.
Just jack the string height up and hope that someone is totally overwhelmed by the bling.....Guitar Center corporate slogan.
It always amazes me that very few players know anything about maintaining their guitars. Hell I was doing that stuff when I was 15.
Me too, age 16 with my first bass.......... over 60 years ago !
If you moved to another client, I would still watch and patreon.
I think you once called a non functional guitar as a "guitar shaped object" i use that all the time
Could be a canoe paddle or a rug beater.
That truss rod sounded like my back when I get up in the morning.
My knees at work.
Your back must be gooched then!
Dave Longden totally gooched.
Dude, lmao 😂😭
Remember folks. Only you can prevent BSA (bridge saddle angulation).
Hey Dave. Merry Christmas to you.

Justin B sshh, keep that one to yourself or Stewmac will rob the idea, make their own and charge $200 for it!
I am intrigued. You got a picture of this you can send me. I don't know why I can't picture it in my head.
Edit: I don't work for stewmac...
Thanks Dave, you confirmed I did my intonation set right. It makes sense, 12th fret and midpoint of string should be the same note.
Keep being yourself Dave, it cracks me up.
Great show Dave, Merry Christmas to you and yours! And a Happy New Year!
Dave's World of fixin guitars and droppin f-bombs
I have a Jackson acoustic bass I found in a dumpster with a broken neck. Well I fixed the neck, bottomed out the truss rob, and now use it only for finger exersize (sorry I can't spell today). It's really all it is good for.

One of your funnier videos, still packed with good info.
Thumbs up if you only came here for the F-Bombs
This channel makes me smile
Great work Dave
Aside from the issues, I do like the look of that bass. Great color on the finish.
as the only human who has adjusted the truss rod, was it previously setup by chimps? most likely.... YES.
"I'm over here fixing guitars dropping a few f bombs" lost it when he said that
I'm in. Happy holidays to you and yours!!
The truss rod sounded like my spine ! Hope your sound hole is okay . Diggin' the T-shirt Dave .
Hey, how'bout one of those neck pillows. You know, the one you would use when taking a flight? You could sit the bass on that to give it support but still leave the output jack free...maybe?
Glad your doing well after your ear piece removal brother!!
Jackson c20!!! The first bass I ever bought.
Your the best brother. Really like your work.
The headstock looks near lawsuit levels of similar to my Danelectro '64 Bass.
MaxTheKanuck That would be ironic seeing as Jackson threw enough law suits at otjer companies themselves.
Looks like an ibanez overall lol
I'm in the process of patenting a device to stop the output jack banging on the bench .
I might call it something like "a shoulder strap "
Damn, you stole my idea, I was going to patent that.
Hey thanks for inventing those. I have so many!
Merry Christmas to you and your family. All the best.
Almost a uncle bumblefuck special!! Merry Christmas dave!!!
Pick up a 6 inch by 6 inch square block of foam for your output jack stand.
6 inches deep in Canadian CLub
To be honest, I wanted to express myself in centimeters but I kill them every time I see them cause they have massive pincers.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the family.

Love the Sleestak skulls on your shirt!
That would be awesome go for it
Their USA stuff from the 80s was pretty decent.

Xmas ? Bah Humbug !!!
But Solstice Felicitations for Thursday 21st
20:56 definitely belongs in the greatest hits.

for adjusting the banana - how much is too much adjustment? like 1/4 turn a week ?
The truss rod nut needs a shot of PB Blaster... great rust breaker
I’m quite aware of the physics of a truss rod. I’ve been playing guitar, and repairing my own for almost 50 years now. None of my guitars make that kind of noise when adjusting a minimally lubed truss rod nut... nothing to be scared about...
Great Idea.
It's that time of year again , so to Dave and all his viewers , and that includes the trolls Merry Christmas !!!!
I cuss all the time working on guitars....lol. No need of the bullshit this forum has turned into, gonna still watch if you leave this joke known as YT. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
" a truss rod can save the world"... that's for your next t shirt
Nice looking bass, though.
I love that bass. I have a Charvel/Jackson and that seems better than the later models in the early 1990's
Yes! Fireball. I hope the ear's ok ;)
So what's with all the Gumby headed headstocks??
Hey Dave. Thanks for the video & Merry Christmas, are those Sleestaks (from land of the lost) on you your t-shirt?
Love listening to dave complain and bust on his customers guitars
Diggin' the Van Gogh look Dave
Now i'll have to listen to Fireball
Dave Reaume is a gentleman, schoLar , and a son of a Sea Cook .
Hahaha that Fireball reference

Wref that's a Smuggleocaster.
Sounds like something used by the CNC machine to keep things lined up
Dave doesn’t care he’s just trying to make money
Is this a Jackson JS2 Spectra bass because I've never seen a finish like this?
Somekind of Jackson C20 bass from 90s to 00s
Hey Dave, what did you use to fix the broken nut? Didn't see that in the video.
Hey Dave, what size is the truss rod wrench on this bass?
Luv the sleestak shirt
Was wondering what your thought were about the Gene Simmons basses they used to sell; did you ever work on one?
Dave i love your videos and watch all of them and some more than once thank you for what you do im 65 year old with stage 4 cancer and ive played all my life keeep up your videos
Keep watching and learning beats TV
! PYROTECHNiCS the Fookin' JACKSON !

this is one of those jobs where I would say fuck it and put really light strings on it, drop the action another 64th, and call it done.
Man the sound from the neck...😫 ps if you move, I’ll follow.
Dave if you moved to a channel where you could swear and curse as much as you felt necessary I would pay for sure. Holy loud noise, Batman!
Happy Hanukkah Slick...that looked frustrating.

TH-cam ads are out of control, having to wait half a minute before the vid starts ?
Use uBlock and you never ever have to watch ads again...
Using the internet without adblock is like not wearing a condom in Tijuana.
I guess i need a condom opps i mean adblock.TY for the info.
Yikes! Stiffy.......good job Dave!
24 fret bass.....lol why indeed :)
How was the nut height Dave?
Lol! Love the Fireball comment
That truss nut could use a spot of grease Dave, or soap if you have no grease ! I know you realise this but am surprised you left it so dry man !
Oh !
Not unlike sex.
It's called profit.. it's a business thing :)
good for filling up skips lol
Happy Hanakuh
Spellcheck was no halpp
There are no springs under my Fender Jazz bass pickups, instead they put styrofoam under them. Cheap made.
I'd pay to watch Dave... My $0.02
$0.02? What a cheapskate, he's worth a nickel at least!
that bass sounds good
It is a POS.
Amazing what new strings can do
Screw You Tube. let's move.

"sounds like", simpletons. Not "is"...lol...
10,000 Rambos, true. But, you tend to forget that Canada is America as well. Not the US of the freaking A, but still America.
dave van gooch has been playing bye ear
New earring Dave?
Don't use the cheap, chicken shit cords that they give away at the music store! LOL That was a seriously funky bass design. Good work brother. At least it plays a helluva lot better now than when he bring it to ya. Cheers
Just because.....
Yeah, frets too close for a bassist -- too spread out for a guitarist. Worst of both worlds.
My Jority .
your angled jack plug keeps bending make a small hole in the bench.
Melmac cereal bowl with foam glued inside it, and rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from sliding?
ye (what's Melmac?)

WOW! That's Melmac.DO YOU THINK DAVE would want that on his bench? Melmac!!!
Should have used 45-105 strings.
3 in 1
I've heard of an engineer, this is the first time I've heard of a fuckenear.
My last crack addict - good band name
virgin truss rod eh? ;)
Dave the chiropractor.
Bass Chiropractor, makes him sound more like a specialist.
So dave is it a well made bass or a pile of excrement.?
Dave's World of Fun Stuff I’d rather get a J bass but p bass is fair.
