l am not a professional, I only do my own nails, and occasionally my daughters. I have a £35 led lamp which seems to work quite well with shellac and other types such as Red Carpet, Bluesky etc. I must admit I would like to know exactly how long I should cure the CND Shellac. I usually do 30 to 45 sec for base, 1min for colour and 1.5 to 2 mins for top coat. If I was doing it professionally I would buy the cnd lamp. Still enjoyed your review though.
By the way what what gel/ polish/shellac was on your nails in this video as I thought it was very nice. I like the natural clean look a lot.
You cannot tell by "looking" if the gel is cured properly as they harden at 50% cure. You need to cure it up 90% to avoid allergic reactions (dermatologists say that and chemists say that). That has to be determined under a microscope in a lab. I personally would not use any other lamp than the lamp made by CND to cure Shellac, even on myself. The allergy issue is reaching epidemic level, just check out Nail Technician Allergy Forum on FB. I have zero to gain by saying this but any company that tells you that you can cure their gel with any lamp either has no knowledge of chemistry (scary) or they totally don't care about your health and are trying to sell the gel (sad). Companies don't make money selling lamps. I know because I used to distribute professional product. You lose money on lamps, you sell them because you want to ensure proper cure for your product.

Good article about the lamps- ikoniqnails.com/blog/post/uv-lamps-explained-(why-any-old-lamp-just-wont-do!)/
Have you ever tried cnd primer I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth the investment !
Do u know is it work with Luxio materials?
Hi, thank you for your informative video. I've recently bought this product and new to CND. The colour coats do not seem to cure. Have I bought a fake lamp or fake CND shellac? Is the colour supposed to completely cure and not be wiped off with isopropyl alcohol. When I have added my top coat and wiped the tacky layer am I supposed to see the colour on the wipes or is there a problem? Thanks
I think those indentations are only for your thumbs, not your pinky. They are placed like that because depending on the hand (left or right) your thumbs are sitting in opposite directions.
I agree! :)
When you hit the 10s button, should it flash 5x and then the light goes off? Just got this lamp and that’s what mine does. The 5 flashes is equivalent to just 5 seconds
Yes. That’s correct. Only 5 seconds for the base :)
Thank you so much for responding. I was stumped and took way too long to try to figure it out before just asking you. I’m licensed but it’s been years since I’ve worked in the salon. (Since pre-shellac craze days) 😊
@@priscillabaker477 I just purchased my lamp and had the same thing happen. In the instruction book it says the Base Coat is 10 seconds. So the few flashes weren't adding up to 10 seconds. I am concerned the base won't be cured enough.
Hello,
My old model CND 08200 requires it's UV bulbs to be replaced (reached the allotted operational hour number) . However, I saw your video and was wondering if perhaps I should upgrade to this model instead? How does the ammount of operational hours compare between the two? Also, do they both work for the same CND nail polishes? Thank you in advance
The new LED lamps apparently have up to 50,000 hours but that is not realistic nor correct.
In normal circumstances with full time use the LED lamps last about 2-3 years.
The new lamp I reviewed here is great. I really like it still.
And yes, they will cure all CND products.
thank you for this movie. It is very helpful. could you tell me how many nm this lamp has?
Thanks for answering my question! I think that although it is beyond considerate for a company that manufactures a lamp for their own product will even consider advertising another companies lamp that fully cures their own product, I think they should also let the curing times be known to fully curb any chances of improper curing both over and under! I guess we can say that it only behooves LE to put the information out there because there are techs including myself who will totally avoid an entire line of gel products because of the expense of a new lamp! Thanks for everything and sorry for the long spiel! Lol!
Yes, for sure its good for us to be able to cure 2 brands with 1 lamp but I also see it from the manufacturers point of view. IF they advertise that their product cures with lamp from a brand B, what happens if the company B discontinues the lamp or changes it? Or goes under?
I'm al about saving money but lamp is not a big investment really. It's cost of doing business. The cost of these things (as well as filters) should be included in the prices of the services. As an industry we need to stop "cheaping" out our industry, nickle and diming the manufactures and start investing like smart business people. Client safety should be a priority instead of trying to offer 400 colors.... flea market style and generally we need to start taking this business seriously.
I hope I don't sound preachy but this is really how I feel.
Thank you for addressing the client's position Issues. I have to remind them quite often.
Hi, I have a question what is the difference between the CND and the gelish lamp??
Hi Rosa. Different wavelengths and it could have different intensity. I always suggest using the lamp that came with a system and be weary of companies that say that their product cures with any lamp. Well, it might cure, but will it cure properly so the product doesn't cause allergies/overexposure over time?
There is a different levels or cure, just as there is different levels of clean.
Like after you wash a dish, it's clean right? And you can eat off it. But in a salon only washing tools (sanitizing) is not enough. We need to disinfect or sterilize.
For gels I only recommend near complete cure because improperly cured gels can be very allergenic.
@@TheSalonLife Thank you so much , so you do you think I should invest in a good lamp like gelish ?
Hi Rosa! If you are using Gelish then yes, I would recommend using Gelish lamp. If you are going to use CND I would definitely recommend using CND lamp.
@@TheSalonLife so all lamps has to work with their own nail varnishes, a gelish lamp won’t be able to cure any other brands, as to CND ? .. I use different nail varnishes , also I’m scared that someone might have an allergic reaction, In addition to this the strength of the bulbs like a brand like gelish won’t be able to cure any other brands? And why does the lamp gives off a burning sensation is it because of the toxins ?
I wrote about this topic here. Please check it out and click on the links I provided in the post.

Can you let us know how the newer CND lamp is working out for you? I’m assuming since you’ve had it for a while, you’ve used it enough to be able to compare the old CND lamp vs the new CND lamp?!
I'm loving the new lamp. It's worth the money in my opinion for sure! The only thing I would like it would be a timer and maybe a little beep to let me know that the curing cycle is done but it's not a deal breaker.
The Salon Life Thank you for responding!
Hello! Do you still recommend this light to cure light elegance hard gel? I’m licensed and I saw this lamp at a pro store and I wanted to get it for myself but I wanted to be sure
Hi there! It’s not about my “recommendation” but about a fact that Light Elegance chemist, Jim McConnel tested his gels in the lab to confirm that they cure in that lamp properly. :). It’s a great lamp though and I use it every day for CND Shellac. Very well made.
Thank you!
Does anyone have info on the wavelengths the CND lamp uses? :)
Love our videos! What color polish are you wearing?
Thank you much for this amazing video. How often do you think we need to get a new lamp?
The reason why I ask about the lamp is I have the old square lamp
The traditional UV bulbs CND lamp? That one should have a timer that will tell you when to change the bulbs
Hi there! Is this the lamp you would use to cure their builder gel?
Yes, this CND lamp cures all of their UV cured products: CND Brisa gel, CND Plexigel and CND Shellac.
Can I use the ASP gel polish or any other brand with this lamp? ( CND LED LAMP)
It probably will cure so it looks cured it but will it cured properly to avoid overexposure over time and allergic reactions? I don’t know, only ASP and their chemist would know if they tested it properly
Since the LED lamp bulbs can’t be changed, how do you know when it’s going to burn out?
I have the first edition CND led lamp
Depending on the use the lamps should be changed every 2-3 years. They say that the bulbs work for 50K hours but that means that they are on, they don't say how much UV they've lost. So full time nail tech should change them every 2-3 years.
Hi Anna! I love your channel and like you, can watch people painting nails all day long! I recently purchased the CND LED Lamp (the new model wasn't yet available in the U.S.) and now have the opportunity to purchase the new model for a great price at an authorized distributor. Would your recommend the new model or should I stick with the older model?
I would say get the new model. I really like it. Newer technology too. If you want use 2 lamps (I always prefer 2 lamps) or use the old one as a backup.
If you need additional help please know I’m available for 1-on-1 coaching:)
www.schedulicity.com/scheduling/AA6436
I don’t like the old CND lamp. It worked fine but the open spaces on the side would allow the light to cure whenever I worked on the other hand.
I always used 2 lamps so the lamp was away from the working area so I never had that issue. But I see how possibly that could be an issue when working on top of the lamp or next to the lamp. I liked to be able to see the placement of the clients fingers. Very often people would not have their fingers flat
Do you recommend uv gloves to help protect hand from the harmful uv light?
No. The amount of UV exposure you receive from a manicure is similar to the amount of exposure you would get sitting near a window. The risks of UV lamps have been totally blown out of proportion. In 25 years of doing UV manicure I haven't had 1 client with skin cancer on their hands. Using gloves during a manicure is like wearing snorkling equipment when you shower to prevent you from drowning. Technically you can drown in any amount of water but in reality showering is pretty safe :)
At my salon we use different brands of gel, will this lamp help cure it still?
Hi Evelyn! There is no such a lamp on the market that will *properly* cure all the gels. Any lamp will cure gels to certain degree but to lower the risk of allergies and to make the gel polish last properly we need to cure the gels properly. More info here:

The Salon Life,
Are you still enjoying/using your CND LED lamp?
Thank you!
Yes. Its awesome!
@@TheSalonLife
Thank you!
Ordered mine today! :)
The sticker on there is what Nails R Us puts on all equipment that is purchased through them. They are a great distributor:)
Yes they are! My favourite supplier!
Showing two comparing so confusing just want to know about what you just bought. But thanks
Hi does this work for uv hard gel?
Well, the CND lamp is made for CND products and it cures their hard gel (CND Brisa) properly.
edited to add: this lamp also cures Light Elegance gels as confirmed by Light Elegance’s chemist Jim McConnel. You can’t tell with naked eye if the gel is properly cured. A chemist, a lab can only confirm that.
What'd the name of your nail polish color?
I probably had some milky gel on my nails.
What if you want gel on your feet? Would it fit? Lol
Yes the lamp will work for feet :). Mind you, I personally don’t recommend gel polish on toes
@@TheSalonLife I found out cnd makes same color polish non gel that I can use on toes. I just want to match :)
I just think the price is outrageous, but all CND products are rather expensive, you partly pay for the name, similar to OPI products
What is your favorite gel polish brand?
I'm just going to put this out there.... Since she's showing the CND lamp, I'm pretty sure that she uses CND Shellac.
Way too much talking but not explaining how the actual lamp works. I’m a newbie and I have no idea how to work this lamp but you guys are explaining it in a way for people that already have the lamp and that’s upgrading to a newer lamp.
Hello and thank you for your feedback! If you are a newbie to the industry you might enjoy reading this info:
www.lightelegance.com/blogs/news/the-importance-of-using-the-correct-curing-lamp-for-proper-curing-of-uv-nail-products-by-doug-schoon
Come on man. How many at home, non professional folks are going to want to spend $150+ for a lamp? Horse feathers.
CND Shellac is a professional line. As pros we owe our clients safe services. Improper curing is a leading cause of allergic reactions.
Jo Leipold me!!
Speed up your video. And explain it better. You’re just chatting a little bit too much. I appreciate your feedback.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!
