You better get used to delays because that is what alphas are all about finding things that they don't know are broken, if you can't handle delays and bugs I highly suggest you skip the alpha and find a finished game to occupy your time while this one is made. Sometimes they think they are on track and then suddenly a problem pops up which causes a chain reaction this is very common in alpha testing and there will be plenty more delays before this game goes live.
@@rooster1012they shouldn't have went out of their way to specifically say they would NEVER say a date if they weren't absolutely 100% sure they'd be able to make it. They made their beds with this one. HOLD DEVS ACCOUNTABLE.
Disappointed alpha 2 is not sooner - yes. Surprised - no. Feel like I have been waiting 10 years for this game - a couple more months for alpha 2 is not going to hurt (too much) - hufffffffff!
I think the issue was their statement and expression of confidence in a Q3 release, only to rather quickly delay. Like the video said, it’s not the delay itself, but the going back on their word that was the issue.
@@PherPhur By your logic then, nothing Intrepid ever says can be trusted? In case you haven't noticed, Steven always preface anything he says with "Our plan is... Our intention is... Our goal is... " What's the point of open development if they can say whatever they want, not live up to it, and hide behind "We didn't 100% explicitly state X." Nothing is ever 100% in life, so I guess none can ever be held accountable for their words? As things can always change. Also, funny how Steven has "gone off multiple times about not giving dates" - but they still chose to announce Q3 and failed to meet it? Guess they didn't learn their lesson after all.
@PherPhur they specifically said they would never say a date without 100% confirming they can get it done in that time. Stop eating their hot dogs and start holding them accountable.
My thought, i know its a smaller team, but why haven’t they hired more people to work on it? This reflects poorly on managing a game. We are almost a decade into development and still in alpha, what about when the game actually releases and they take forever to balance things or create new expansions or add new features?
I backed the Kickstarter... 7 years ago, and the fact the game will be in development for another 3-5 years makes me feel itchy. I don't mind delays or whatever, I've just never really thought about how long I've waited for Ashes of Creation (10-12 years by the time of release). We are reaching Star Citizen levels of copium.
Isn’t 10 years decent for a small studio with big ambitions? I would say they were delayed by at least two years with the unreal engine 5 upgrade, but personally I see it as a good decision as UE5 will probably be at maturity around their full release and UE4 would’ve been just really outdated
10 years (2025 RELEASE) is in the range of typical development time for an MMO. Most games just don't say anything publicly until they are already more than 50% done to announce and then go quiet for a few more years until they nearly release. AoC has been regularly communicating with the public since the start (which was promised in the kickstarter). This gives the impression that their development is really slow in comparison to a 'normal' game when they aren't even in realm of 'extremely slow to develop' yet. Maybe they will end up being slower than other games (probable IMO), but it literally hasn't been long enough that we can say the time in development is atypically long or completely unacceptable for an MMO. Now as soon as we hit 12 years in development (2027), that's when their development would have been atypically slow. But the public doesn't really know or care about all that. All most people see is that normally they hear about a game from devs for the first time and then 1-4 years later it releases. Then Ashes shows up and doesn't follow that trend (because they are trying a completely different public communication strategy they are calling 'open development') and so it feels extremely, unacceptably slow to those people.
tbh I used to follow star citizen and there is actually a promising game here with AOC in comparison...and I hate the Bard gameplay and it looks f'in gheay but hey...the game looks fun...it looks COMPETENT to play and I don't have to play Bard nor did I ever intend to
@@ratri7777 No, their communication just vanished when they started to hide amount of done biomes/races etc. We don't know anything about how many races will be there and how many actual biomes will be on A2 launch since we only see Riverlands for years. They forgot why we loved this studio at the first place.
Your getting that on Aug. 16th You be fine unless this is the only Game out of the Holiday line up your waiting on. Then sorry your going to miss a lot.
I feel like this ashes community needs to be brought back to reality before Alpha 2 release because right now there's too much unknown. People trust in every dream Steven has and take them for granted. I don't know if Intrepid will be able to handle the heat on release when people's delusion meets reality.
I agree completely. I've been trying to tell people this only to get told "Ashes of Creation isn't for everyone" or that I'm being too negative. My response to everything they show is "okay prove it" that way it's impossible to be disappointed unless the A2 is horrendous. I think people need to remember the game is still largely untested and is making a lot of promises. It's best to wait and see
Stephen got covid in the meantime didn't he? I view it as a natural occurence then that the release got delayed. _" But we don't know if he got it or if he just made it up! "_ Hush I say to the nay sayers. 😀 Ashes has since long become a thing of *FAITH* and I maxed out this state since some time now. What is there to lose?
yeh exactly, me and my mates got caught up and we were complaining that I was OP(gonna be a cleric) and then we heard ourselves fleshing out a meta that doesnt even fucking exist and start goofing off together
Yeah I'll be honest I've always been rather skeptical in general. I'm currently placing my bar on the floor so I'm not disappointed as AoC has made too many claims that sound "too good to be true". I'd love to be proven wrong of course but we'll see
my estimation is that this delay is 90% because they realised that they have to push it back because of other releases and 10% because theyre like "might aswell polish it a bit more then" but they just didnt wanna say that thats such a big part of the reason
its all about marketing, like the 64 class system. Its wiser to let people play the other releases and when they get dissapointed, suggest and throw out your game. I am sure they had that on their mind before they mentioned Q3. They wanted to built hype and then postpone it by 30 days or less.
@@AndrewVisse throne and liberty won't survive long in the western market. too much aversion to pay to win. all ive heard from early reviewers is that the game isn't great
You're 100% right. A complete meltdown by some because it had to get moved into October. Those who are having a complete psychotic meltdown should not be allowed to play video games. Welcome to the real world of development shit happens, and things get delayed. People wound so tight over this delay of a few days need to step away and take a break before they give themselves an aneurysm. Adult gamers acting like 6-year-old kids having a meltdown in the checkout line because they cannot get to the candy bar they want because Mom said No.
@@coldsteel865 Well, I guess I can understand people who have been disappointed a lot recently getting a little bent out of shape, but the big picture is that a 1 month delay is nothing significant compared to how well the Alpha2 goes. In the old days once you get to what we called the Integration test, you used to start pulling programmers off the project, because you couldn't keep them busy. You left some of the team on the project, that would be the people supporting and enhancing it, but a lot of developers would move onto a new project. Now, the game industry is slightly different and there is a lot more sideways development required than in a business application, but Alpha2 is cresting the hill, it is downhill from here, as long as Alpha2 goes reasonably well. In October, we will be able to tell very quickly if we are looking at 1, 2 or 3 years more. Which in itself will be a relief.
@@coldsteel865 I don't know about others but it irritates me that they say 100% Q3 then they mention October. If it was me, my job would be on the line.
The Worst part is Steven Bragged when the Project was Kickstarted that Ashes of Creation was "NOT going to be like Star Citizen and take forever to come out ...we have a Plan..and a time schedule for release....) I laughed and laughed!!
I feel like it's worse than that haha. Star citizen has had playable segments of the game for most of its development to be honest. It's not complete and lacks a ton of polish but atleast people who dropped their money on it can interact with the game. Ashes is essentially vaporware and I feel like I've been hearing alpha 2 is almost here for a good handful of years now.
Ive purposely stopped following ashes at this point. Two years ago i was super invested and very much looking forward to it. At this point i hate to say it but reading through the comments on these videos really shows that the community is starting to mirror the star citizen community. Its an mmo release it asap or you will be left with no one but blind followers who dont care if the game stays in development for 15 more years. Meanwhile most normal people just wanting a new mmo will have lost intrest years before launch.
At the end of the day, I was a good little copium paypiggy and upgraded my pack to get Alpha 2 access. I've NEVER done this for any other game. October is only two months away. I don't mind the delay. And at the end of the day, Alpha 2 is not going to be a fun game demo like people always think these releases are. It's going to be a buggy mess that we will be expected to test. Some fun will come out of this. But Ashes lads need to keep their expectations in check.
well, I actually expect to test Alpha 2 in December. The fact that they already delayed so many times (alpha 1 too) just don't make me believe they will not do it again, lol. I'm fine by waiting but they should sell shit only when its ready to go.
Duh....? This game has been the biggest red flag of all time. It has zero art direction, just artists drawing whatever they think looks "cool", and has absolutely no game design direction.
I agree with this topic and how you present it. So much (ill toot my own horn) so i had made a video on this same topic! I think the biggest issue is the lack of insights and information from Intrepid. A studio based in open and honest dev work, not knowing why there is a delay make me think in the doomium realm. I hope its not due to them not having a process in place for Keys they want to add. It feels to me that they wanted to open keys but did not see the fine line time frame of a Q3 launch. The lack of info leads me to go to worse case vs there needs to be a delay for the sake of good development. I agree something has gone wrong with communication here and i think AMA is gonna be huge. Trust, honest open discussions are huge for this project. Love the video.
Only issue i got is Stevan lives in a "Dream World" to many promises will make a game fall far from what is to be expected..Time will be the decider as always.....
They hyped up so much this game by promising heaven and earth. Too many expectations now that more than likely they won't be able to satisfy... I wouldn't be surprised this game dies in less than a year of being released tbh ... which is kinda sad, but well, let's hope I'm wrong.
I would argue playtesting shouldn't be a thing until a game is nearly feature complete. Allowing people to *play* the game while in dev sends the wrong messages to the community, one of which is the inability for the devs to change directions or make big changes without major pushback. Hell, even decisions like delays can be made with more flexibility if the player base at large isn't so invested in *highly turbulent* design that often goes changed or entirely gutted/replaced. Game devs should be transparent with us; tell us how things are going and what they are thinking. But should not be porous; allowing the player base to engage, directly, in the game's development.
The delay does not bother me at all. Actually, I prefer October. The work I do it seasonal, so I'll get way more time to test in the fall and winter. Totally selfish reason but it is what it is 😃
Fully open communication about development of a product has never been a good idea. A vast majority of ppl have no idea how dev works and if they actually see what is under the hood they will lose all faith and hope immediately. That's how it is with ALL product industries. It's why companies hide almost all production behind closed doors until it's damn near or already complete. Most consumers have no vision of the process even if they are shown what the result will be.
yeah i mean, we're all excited for this month's update specifically for the A2 release date. To wait until then only to disappoint us was a silly move. Could've saved so much trouble with a tweet being like "we have a slight delay for the release date! sorry guys we just had to!!" but instead it was the BIG surprise on the awaited monthly update lmao
I really dislike all those colorful skills no matter what class you are, destroys the whole fighting scene. Look what pinky smoke popped out at 1:18, I really cant take that serious. Who cares about delays, they should start fixing before letting you guys do their work testing their game in early progress. I really would just forget about the game and focus on other stuff. Those pink clouds are not worth waiting to play as soon as possible.
I'm fine with the delay, plenty going on in life for me atm & overall I want them to do what's best for them and the game. - BUT - like you mentioned at the end with their clear F up in communication, saying one thing on a livestream then the very next livestream going back on that clear definitive stance is pretty worrying. This reminds me of my own workplace, I work in a hotel and there are a literal sh*tton of departments & we get similar F ups all the damn time- Communication is SO important and with so many employees, managers etc its incredibly hard to make things clear especially when deadlines are involved, i've seen before my very own eyes what was once a 5star hotel along with a 5star restaurant go down into the gutter and an incredibly massive reason was due to communication (or lack of) between the departments & management. This has also happened to mannnny game studios in the past & currently affecting some of the biggest, especially once they increase their team size a major amount, I really hope Intrepid aren't caught up in a workplace silo effect. I'm not trying to insinuate that they are, but rather just saying I'm a bit concerned, but i hope for the best!
Yes, communication is key. I think another major issue with how they went about this, is how similar it felt to that totally obviously fake game "The Day Before". That scares people. It hasn't really worried me too much, since I do think AoC and it's developers are VERY different than The Day Before and it's developers. This should still be frowned upon, and Intrepid needs to learn not to handle things like this here on out. The community expects more from them.
IMO, these situations where people need money before they make the game they are trying to sell are no good. The public at large shouldn’t even know about a project this early, everyone takes hold of what’s promised, gets hyped by some curated work in progress and starts clamoring for release. Devs start showing stuff, but they often promise things faster than they can deliver, delays….pitchforks gathering crowds, “soon I promise” and then October comes and goes….it must suck to make a game under such scrutiny and it sucks to watch and wait. So I’m just watching this; if it’s good it’s good, if it’s rushed slop after all the waiting than whatever.
I do not see the argument this is due to other releases. A2 is not an open release, it is limited to backers and while potentially they may open sale of backer packages again for this Alpha, it still does not justify delaying the release for that reason. To be honest, a delay of one month makes no sense, what needs to get done that requires such a short and specific delay, this feels like there is a non development reason for it more than anything else. If there is show stoppers that come up last minute, a delay of a month seems very specific and you would delay into a broader timeframe to prevent having to come back a few weeks after and announce further delays as you did not solve the issue yet. Combine that with the consistent and repeated talk of a Q3 date being set and achievable and IMO you end up with "her is another reason for this". What that reason is remains the big question here but in general, I feel Intrepid says a lot of things but has very little to show for it and delays like this really are not helpful, which I'm sure they know so that adds to the idea that something rather serious must have come up to trigger this. One big problem I see is that Intrepid has built up the expectations for this Alpha to a point where it really only will be able to .. disappoint. And that may be completely unjustified when it does, but yet, here we are. For me, AoC is pretty much the fantasy MMO equivalent of StarCitizen so I'm used to these things by now :D
Have faith. They have similar problem to public versus private companies. Their competition treats them seriously and try blocking them. Even announcing quarter ended with their competition filling all possible dates to diminish Intrepid's impact. They cannot openly announce the date too soon, they cannot give their full reasoning behind those decisions on livestream. It would give too many power to their competitors.
Stoked for October, gonna have a ton of people seeing it, and a ton of people playing it. Can't wait to binge watch streamers and youtubers playing it, and can't wait to buy a beta or alpha 2 key if they re open them again.
The alpha test is feature complete just not content complete? My hope is to finally see a playable version of all thrse different systems.likw how the node systems works, how the pvp corrptiob system works. How the town system works. Because everything sounds like an idea on paper, but it rarely ever plays that well out in the wild. So i just finally wanna see some of these systems in action under real uncontrollably situations and not a scripted blog.
I'm not even sure October counts as a delay. If they had released it on Sept 30 to say they hit Q3 or they release it on Oct 1 instead, what's the big deal? Yes, I know it's most likely slightly more than that, but the point is all this really means is that A2 will release with even more polish. I would like to see them really ramp up production speed too, now that all the back end systems have been developed and are in place, lets goooo. Once they get those tested and flushed out in A2, I hope they're able to really start finishing the game out at a faster pace. Rogue, Summoner, other race esthetics for cities, biomes, etc. But the game looks amazing already and even in it's current state I know I would have fun playing it. I hate how toxic the community is. Well thought out constructive criticism is one thing, but people always complain how the corporate money hungry games are rushed and hollow, but then now can't seem to handle it when Intrepid takes their time to make an actual good game. 🤷♂️ Either way, I'm super excited. We're almost there guys. Almost there.
let's be realistic. It will be the end of October. The thing is they wanted to clear their name for failing to deliver Alpha One plenty of times and now they are doing exactly the same. Keep in mind that we still don't have any date so it might also be November and new excuse gonna be "Critical bug appeared".
@@elwow4351 Alpha 1 was an overwhelming success and impressive on many levels. I expect Alpha 2 to wow on many levels as well. If the game was bad, no one would care about a delay, but everyone is so eager to get their hands on it that they are up in arms over a couple weeks.
So, what yer saying is, the same problem Star Citizen has suffered from since about COVID? LOL I agree though, I'm all for taking time. And in Star Citizen's case, expected it...cuz Chris Roberts. Only an idiot would think a perfectionist would do anything quickly. But clear communication is needed, which CIG has a grand track record of failing at. Looks like Ashes is falling down the same hole, sadly. Hopefully it's just a blip due to some grind for A2 release.
I remember A1, Steven would pop in.. and give us "assignments. "like go here, follow me get on your gryphon and fly to this location, etc etc etc. I expect we ll be getting assignments in A2 as well
I feel like people are overlooking the fact that we're talking about releasing an alpha version of the game and for some reason comparing this game's alpha release to other game's full release
becourse the Alpha 2 has so many players that its like an EA release. A Major EA release. So its like a soft launch of the game. If Intrepid fucks this up, then the marketing damage will be massive. In doesnt matter if you call out alpha , pre alpha, Early acess. The moment you push your game into the hands of thousands of people, is the moment you soft release your game. Its no longer just a testing phase. Testing is done with a few dozen people. Maybe a few hundred but not thousands or Tens of thousands. Alpha 2 will be the biggest Marketing stunt Intrepid will be doing until actual launch. Its the first look at the game for most of their hardcore followers. Streamer small and large will play this. People will overlook some bugs and errors but nothing gamebreaking. Thats why they need to polish it like and actual release.
I feel bad for the people that try to plan PTO around these announcements and then face delays. The delay itself does not surprise me, I speak from experience when I say that during the alpha stage of any software product it's quite common to have "unknown unknowns" that pop up during development that end up delaying milestones, likely it won't be until beta that we'll see more accurate predictions when it comes to timelines.
We can handle any news, because we escapist nerds all have the same goal. The same goal of having another hit of ecstasy, as a new MMORPG shines above the rest. We shall wait for the land of paper flowers, purple skies and the candy clouds of lullaby, as we always have... All that matters in our hearts, is the promise that it will come... Being smart about it comes when you want it to succeed, not just to have it for yourself.
@sorasabi Well, I'm not going to play A2, so you won't. Besides, I'm not just looking forward to one, or a couple specific "mechanics" to come out, I'm waiting for the whole game. So if it played well, I wouldn't even care if 80% of the stuff that was supposed to be in it is subpar. A good game is all I need.
I'm gonna get called an intrepid meatrider for this, but why the fuck does A2's release matter in comparison to other games? It's an alpha. It's gonna be a buggy mess that isn't even remotely feature complete. it is NOT the release of the game. honestly the less eyes on it the better probably, but i can already smell so much of this community getting pissy when A2 launches and it's not the fully feature complete MMO that everyone wants. Everyone is treating A2 like it's a full game release and that's all being concerned about the optics of release windows tells me, is that y'all are living or dying by A2's state at launch when the game is going to objectively be bad, and come october all I'm gonna be hearing is people trashing on a game in alpha cause it's not better than X game like you expected it to be.
@sorasabi This is false. BG3 was highly praised at early access and that praise continued as they made updates all the way up to the release. As for OP unfortunately IS has put themselves in a horrible position where every public showcase of the game is essentially a soft launch. That's what happens when you fail to meet every self set deadline you make for 7 years. Also, alpha 2 is meant to be persistent and playable until launch, so it is effectively a soft launch.
IDK bro maybe because some ppl payed 250$ to play it? I'd be pissy too, every time they delay it that's less time ppl who actually paid for it get to play. Simple maths.
@@flats4478 I'm actually saying they shouldn't delay it? I also paid the 250$ and honestly I'm not even mad they delayed it in general, I'm made they delayed it so they weren't releasing an *Alpha* the same month another game released an expansion, that just feels dumb.
I think games Should not Try and start super super huge World Start world And slowly expand And discover the world and expand the world every 1-3 months so that team have more time to work on everything. By the time 1.5 years in the game has plenty of room to grow
I have been following this game for about 2.5yrs now. I beleive in it and that is why i got an A2 key 18months ago. I dont always engage with their forums and such as when i log on my feels have already been expressed by so many of us which shows we are all on the same jurney. As much as its a bummer the date is being pushed i honestly beleive its not bad. We are all wanting a good game for many years to come. I expect that A2 is going to be full of bugs and honestly i am looking forward to that. However i do expect the game is simi playable which it clearly is going to be. There is a lot at play over Q3. Massive game launches....which could impact its testing with A2. This clearly would have played part of their decisions. Further they have probally incounted some unexpected issues with the groups who have been allowed in to do some pre testing. Its all good news. i dont see any negativity from this and honestly my group of mates who dont follow the game other then via updates from me all feel the same. A2 will come when it comes. But hey what would i know i am just some Aussie guy waiting for a good game like the rest of us
AoC is one of those games I would love to play, but I shouldn't delve too deep into information on it knowing it's gonna be like another 6-8years before it releases which idk if I got 6-8years in me so. Hope it turns out good for you all!
@@sirbonobo3907 SC Scope is impossible. To provide 100 solar systems in content you require user generated content. Ashes Scope is doable because its already been done before.
100% agree that this delay is most likely due to te other bug releases rather then to polish etc. i just dont understand why theyre not open about it, like theres no issue with it
It's not about delay. It's about the fact that people don't see the game ever getting from alpha/beta to launch, like many MMOs before. It's a pattern. You can't expect the hype to be at 100% EIGHT years after the first announcement and the game is still in alpha 2. There is no 'perfect' product release, only 'well done' and 'poorly done.' If the AoC team wants to keep improving the game to a higher degree, that's fine, but don't expect that the game will not suffer from backlash or disdain.
And I thought I have serious problems not being able to decide if I should eat one burger or two. Waiting to see the drama half of ppl will throw when they realise Steven was serious when he insisted like 20 times per video, “this is still work in progress “. Ppl are just weird, forgetting this is just a game and their life should not be dependent on releases.everyone wants a good game to spend some quality time. The only thing I don’t fully understand is why should we pay for alphas when we are trying to help them, basically the testers are paying them. But anyway, doesn’t really matter personally as I’m willing to buy an A2 key if the price is decent
if the game needs a delay, for game reasons or marketing reason or whatever, then the game gets a delay. I know we are all banging on Steven's door with "LET US IN!", but come on lads. If it takes another month or 2 or 6 or more to get it on a proper level, let them cook. I hope AoC becomes my next gaming home and i want it to have a proper foundation.
They missed the date because 'of polish and stability' they ain't delaying because of other launches. As Narc well said, they promised time and time again that they will issue dates they are 100% sure on. Another let down imo. Lets's hope A2 is good.
@sorasabi I think that would be A2 for you. If they have all that stabilised & polished we would be in beta. What I am pissed is they actually saying a 100 times they will meet timelines set then fail to do so the next time it is actually tested with facts.
What we're entrusting Steven to do, and what he's attempting to do.. Intrepid can take all the time in the world. Just the Quest writing alone could take ages, I mean we're talking about a potentially legendary game here. Yes, it's not even out yet. But we all know exactly what they are trying to do, one MMO to rule them all
Communication's been pretty solid tbh, yes it looks a bit bad to announce dates and then go back on it, but meh that's life and things won't always go to plan with so many moving parts. I don't get any "faceless, nameless corporation" vibes at all. Pretty constant open comm with the man at the head of it all, and several other key players. So.. I'm happy still. If they decide they need some more time, fine, take it. Winter is a great time for gaming anyway.
I truly believe that T&L is sub-par, and hoped that Intrepid wouldn't let T&L's launch get in the way of them starting A2. Them delaying is safe and it makes sense if only because there are people that have access to A2 that also want to play T&L. My hope was that Intrepid would stick to their guns "This game isn't for everyone." and trust in their community. It *feels* like they put to much stock in the big streamers to stream and hype their game. All that said, I'm in it for the long run, the delay hasn't shaken my faith in Intrepid.
Delays, ultimately equate to a better more fleshed out game.. (Under the right devs and publishers.) Most are willing to wait especially with good communication
I felt very disappointed by the delay not because I don't support a delay, but beceause they kept touting it was going to be Q3 and even last month when it became obvious they weren't going to announce the release date, they still said they are fully confident to release in Q3, which imo was a lie, because they knew they were going to showcase bard next. I don't imagine they'll announce a2 date along a class showcase, I'd expect a trailer, maybe a talk about which features we'll be able to test in A2 etc -- an A2 focused stream, not a bard showcase. All in all, I think they knew that they weren't going to launch in Q3 for quite some time, and just lied through their teeth. I would have no problem if they just kept quiet and tell us 1-2 weeks in advance that A2 is coming and be 101% sure that this is the case.
Even though they're growing, it's still a relatively small studio. I think people going insane over a one-month delay on A2 need to touch grass. That being said, my biggest concern right now is that, as Narc said, these monthly updates are highly curated. They're the "Instagram Stories" of an actual day in the life of an A2 AoC player. This A2 experience is not going to be a gameplay experience at ALL. I think people are in for a very rude awakening come October when they realize the first several months of A2 are going to be little more than loosely strung together, but still mostly isolated system exercises. It's not actually going to feel like a game for a LONG time yet. THAT is the reality which I think Intrepid have been irresponsibly shielding from view for the last several months in order to avoid breaking down the hype over A2.
First impressions are majorly important and this will be AoC's ONLY chance outside of 1.0 launch to capture massive numbers of players burned out from trash MMOs. I am not confident in their confidence anymore. Open development games life and die by the credibility of the developers. If people cannot trust you to even manage a few months of forecasting, how can anyone trust them with any of their promises.
One of the reason that AoC is going to fail IMHO it's because currently the game development is followed and commented by a tons of fanboys who are just a bunch of 50yo dudes that only played WoW and have no clue how the MMORPG game industry evolved. And I'm not talking about you Narc, you are one of the few with the ability to reason. In the last preview I saw so many troubling things: the quest system is uber trash, the CC system is very noob-friendly and not based on player skill and not pvp-oriented, the mana system is garbage and does not differentiate among classes. Mobs are trash. I had so many hopes for this game, but sadly it's going in a very troubling direction. If gameplay sucks, in the end it will be like New World.
Alpha 2 will be playable, but not a finished game, it will be missing content, raids, dungeons, even the classes themselves will be unfinished. The same goes for professions and gambling areas. The most fun will be the PvP, but the strong hype will last 1-2 months, from then on we will be playing those who want to support the project. The player who sees it from the outside will follow the progress from a distance, until the launch is near. We must be careful with the hype and understand that it is a REAL Alpha. The gaming industry is used to "Alphas" that are already finished games but they use that term to defend themselves from bad practices. This is the birth of a MMORPG that if it is well taken care of will change the sector.
If folks are dealing with a slight delay so poorly wait till we hit the feature cut deadline that hits most big projects as they move to release (cutting/delaying features to hit a release window)
They actually should do this... especially on that multiclass system. Imagine balancing 64 classes, its impossible, wont happen. They need to make every mix very unique, also hard as f. Probably focus on 1st Archetypes and on later Patches add the 2nd classes/multiclass thing. I Mean, we havent even saw for real the fuckin Nodes (that are the system the whole game works around). They still need to dev all the Nodes and their particularities.
@kfarbarata They said they aren't worried about balancing. More of max fun and class identity, and a rock paper scissors system on who beats who. I hope we reach a point where things speed up once all the back end systems have been developed and flushed out. We are almost at that point now. A2 will lead directly into beta and into full launch with no gap or very little in between. And honestly they might have far more of the game finished than we realize. We will see how much is in A2. God help us if it's only the Riverlands...
There has been too much feature creep, too many systems with obvious issues that will be exploited in pvp situations and Steven Sharif's past is dodgy as fuck. I lost faith in AoC a long time ago.
@@Cri11e He made a lot of money through an MLM company named XanGo which not only scammed money out of people but also lied about its product helping to cure cancer. MLM's are basically pyramid schemes.
One of the biggest games in the world, Call of Duty, will be releasing in October as well. It would be sad if he tried to release it around the same time, for me at least. I like cod releases as a casual game.
If Steve/they dont feel like its ready for A2, then as simple as that - "its not ready" but communication is key. I dont want to keep getting lured by false information aka the "non existent" carrot. At the end i think they should gladly take their time, so we cope'ers have a great time in A2, but i rather have that they need several more months till A2 instead of getting a "release" date and get delays over and over. Im done with these false hope news.
Seems some expect a "complete" bug free game when they are actually testing dev builds in heavy development. Better to delay if its needed, the game will not be complete for years and you will not be playing during alpha and beta, you will be testing.
tbh im waiting for this game since i backed kickstarter and there was a time where i kinda lost faith in the project but now my faith with these showcases is restored 100% and i think it was the right decision since the war within and throne and liberty alone will dominate the market for short time so yeah i dont care anymore about a few months delay or whatever
'*'Intrepid delaying every time Alpha 1 : dang boy they wont do this again right?"* Alpha 2 : .... well... hey, is as they say, they have enough supporters already, lol. So i'm not Worried. I will play this game even if its 50years from now. It will be cool to use my grandsons to farm for me. As for communication, well, Margaret have a new blue lens and a new blush filter, yey!
The trouble is they already blew that first impression by having open development. People have seen the game already. There is no first impression. Also we are not paying for a complete game we are paying to test a game to make it complete. A2 will not be a completed project
Ashes Of Creation is my last hope for something good,, as a old eq player i miss the days were social interaction was mandatory not a option! where time and effort proudly on display via sword and armor your char was wearing none that welfare transmog crud.. grinding skills felt good and every thing that had to be sold was outta ya bag at torch 2 of course !! i played a conjuror/summoner for over 20 years and really looking forward to playing one in AOC!!
They communicated for months that they were on target, something happened within a 4 week period to push it back 4 weeks at most. The community lost their minds with the first piece of bad news. Gee, I wonder why they start to close communication...but wait they didn't close it they are giving us an info dump in 2 weeks. Like, I get we were all let down but wtf more do you want other then someone in the company to answer all your questions and give every update possible 24/7.
@@dBug404 they should not have said "we will never say a date without 100% knowing wed be able to hit it" as the video states, its not the delay that upsets me. Its the constant over promising and underdelivering that devs do.
Meh. Idc personally. Life goes on and getting hung up on a video game and every word and statement made by someone I don't know seems like a waste of energy.
It doesn't matter because we are told it is a test, we were told it was a test. So why would it matter what other games comes out at that time? There are over 100k testers & we are told was enough. We are here to test A2.
Do I still have trust that Alpha 2 is going to be amazing?
*You're god damn right I do.*
The 16th can't come soon enough 🤩
You better get used to delays because that is what alphas are all about finding things that they don't know are broken, if you can't handle delays and bugs I highly suggest you skip the alpha and find a finished game to occupy your time while this one is made.
Sometimes they think they are on track and then suddenly a problem pops up which causes a chain reaction this is very common in alpha testing and there will be plenty more delays before this game goes live.
I can tell you what the announcement will be, 'Alpha two coming Oct 31st!" Then it will be delayed.
@@rooster1012they shouldn't have went out of their way to specifically say they would NEVER say a date if they weren't absolutely 100% sure they'd be able to make it. They made their beds with this one. HOLD DEVS ACCOUNTABLE.

No faith lost... it's a delay of one month. who cares.
And then 2 months 3 then 5 then 6 years lol
Then Ashes shows up and doesn't follow that trend (because they are trying a completely different public communication strategy they are calling 'open development') and so it feels extremely, unacceptably slow to those people.
tbh I used to follow star citizen and there is actually a promising game here with AOC in comparison...and I hate the Bard gameplay and it looks f'in gheay but hey...the game looks fun...it looks COMPETENT to play and I don't have to play Bard nor did I ever intend to
At least this game has more content right now than star citizen, unironically.
It’s not about delay, it’s about communication!! Absolutely spot on video
They do pretty good. Worth mentioning but freaking out over it is sad. Don't give dates until you are ready.
@@ratri7777 No, their communication just vanished when they started to hide amount of done biomes/races etc. We don't know anything about how many races will be there and how many actual biomes will be on A2 launch since we only see Riverlands for years. Your getting that on Aug. 16th You be fine unless this is the only Game out of the Holiday line up your waiting on. Then sorry your going to miss a lot.
So what? Only idiots with more money than sense have given a penny to them so it's no loss if the game is delayed or or shit.
So everybody's mad and everyone cancel this game when is it gonna be cancel what's gonna happen to the money
Hush I say to the nay sayers. 😀 Ashes has since long become a thing of *FAITH* and I maxed out this state since some time now.

All examples of why waiting until at least beta testing to make bold statements is a good idea.
yeh exactly, me and my mates got caught up and we were complaining that I was OP(gonna be a cleric) and then we heard ourselves fleshing out a meta that doesnt even fucking exist and start goofing off together
Yeah I'll be honest I've always been rather skeptical in general. I'm currently placing my bar on the floor so I'm not disappointed as AoC has made too many claims that sound "too good to be true". I'd love to be proven wrong of course but we'll see
my estimation is that this delay is 90% because they realised that they have to push it back because of other releases and 10% because theyre like "might aswell polish it a bit more then"
but they just didnt wanna say that thats such a big part of the reason
its all about marketing, like the 64 class system. Its wiser to let people play the other releases and when they get dissapointed, suggest and throw out your game. I am sure they had that on their mind before they mentioned Q3. They wanted to built hype and then postpone it by 30 days or less.
I am guessing to avoid throne and liberty, despite it looking like another bog standard korean p2w mmo, it is still a major release in the genre.

Guys, relax. It was slated for September 30th, and now it will be coming October 1st. Not a big deal.

"Star Citizen is just 2 years away!" Energy
as a Star Citizen player i say, add another 8 years on top of that XD
honestly i believe star citizen is gonna launch earlier than Ashes of creation, KEKW.
I'm fine by waiting but they should sell shit only when its ready to go.
lmao...you actually paid...lol...well at least there's something to show here isn't there?
Totally selfish reason but it is what it is 😃
Yeah narc says in the video, it’s for the best if they delay to October. The bad thing is the communication around it.
The new Alpha test key sales bother me more that than the delay ..
I care zero about Cosmetics
Fully open communication about development of a product has never been a good idea. A vast majority of ppl have no idea how dev works and if they actually see what is under the hood they will lose all faith and hope immediately. That's how it is with ALL product industries. It's why companies hide almost all production behind closed doors until it's damn near or already complete. Most consumers have no vision of the process even if they are shown what the result will be.
True. Especially in times when everyone is an expert in just about anything.
yeah i mean, we're all excited for this month's update specifically for the A2 release date.
@sorasabi great point man, I guess all we can do is wait and see come October, I hope they prove us both wrong!
Literally identical to what happens in the Star Citizen community
500 dollars for a alpha 2 key of a make-believe game... Cringe as foock
I agree with you. I'm really interested in AoC, but I will play TnL for now and that will be my focus, it's the same for a LOT of other people.
3:30 - You're absolutely fucked in the head if you think this wooden jank looks like anything that would come out of Larian's forge

I agree though, I'm all for taking time. And in Star Citizen's case, expected it...cuz Chris Roberts. Only an idiot would think a perfectionist would do anything quickly.
Just need to do the larian studios move. Don't say anything about release dates until they're fucking positive. Then give yourself another month
I personally highly doubt that A2 will be better or even close to quality and polish that Throne and Liberty has...
9 years for Alpha 2 is rough, but I wish them gl don't think I'll be alive when it releases though xd
We can handle any news, because we escapist nerds all have the same goal. The same goal of having another hit of ecstasy, as a new MMORPG shines above the rest.

Also, alpha 2 is meant to be persistent and playable until launch, so it is effectively a soft launch.
bunch of wow players here making a stink about wow's eventual replacement...that's all it is
IDK bro maybe because some ppl payed 250$ to play it? I'd be pissy too, every time they delay it that's less time ppl who actually paid for it get to play.
Simple maths.
@@flats4478 I'm actually saying they shouldn't delay it? I also paid the 250$ and honestly I'm not even mad they delayed it in general, I'm made they delayed it so they weren't releasing an *Alpha* the same month another game released an expansion, that just feels dumb.
you are indeed a meatrider
But hey what would i know i am just some Aussie guy waiting for a good game like the rest of us
Full retail launch date is the only announcement I'm paying attention to, the rest is wind.
I needed an extra month so I can get a working PC. Thanks Steven
AoC is one of those games I would love to play, but I shouldn't delve too deep into information on it knowing it's gonna be like another 6-8years before it releases which idk if I got 6-8years in me so. Hope it turns out good for you all!

More like "star citizen level team"

100% agree that this delay is most likely due to te other bug releases rather then to polish etc. i just dont understand why theyre not open about it, like theres no issue with it
It's not about delay. It's about the fact that people don't see the game ever getting from alpha/beta to launch, like many MMOs before. It's a pattern.
You can't expect the hype to be at 100% EIGHT years after the first announcement and the game is still in alpha 2. There is no 'perfect' product release, only 'well done' and 'poorly done.' If the AoC team wants to keep improving the game to a higher degree, that's fine, but don't expect that the game will not suffer from backlash or disdain.
.............
honestly I agree with waiting to october since casual players tend to focus at least 1 to 2 months on a new dlc or game than go to something else.
I have been waiting for this game since I first saw it in 2017. I can sure as hell wait another month for Alpha 2.
They missed the date because 'of polish and stability' they ain't delaying because of other launches. As Narc well said, they promised time and time again that they will issue dates they are 100% sure on. Another let down imo. Lets's hope A2 is good.
@sorasabi Why you saying so? Are you a tester?
@sorasabi I think that would be A2 for you. If they have all that stabilised & polished we would be in beta. What I am pissed is they actually saying a 100 times they will meet timelines set then fail to do so the next time it is actually tested with facts.
What we're entrusting Steven to do, and what he's attempting to do.. Intrepid can take all the time in the world. Just the Quest writing alone could take ages, I mean we're talking about a potentially legendary game here. Yes, it's not even out yet. But we all know exactly what they are trying to do, one MMO to rule them all
On the contrary, I think the announcement of the roadmap proves that more has been thought out than we imagined, and plans are heading into action.
This is an alpha not a beta... Alpha's are barely functional and everything goes wrong. Expect that because that's what it is.
I'm not actually mad that they're delaying it. I have so many other things in the queue sorry.
I’m glad it got pushed back so I can play the first 2 to 4 weeks of throne and liberty. I imagine most people feel the same way.
Solid and I like it!! 🎉 Thank Nac for another good video.
If anyone actually believes that a alpha test is a full release game they are definitely missing a few chromosomes....jeezzz...lol
I don’t see many people concerned about the delay itself, just the way they communicated it.
Ashes of creation is like a cryptocurrencies.
Great video, on point!
There has been too much feature creep, too many systems with obvious issues that will be exploited in pvp situations and Steven Sharif's past is dodgy as fuck. I lost faith in AoC a long time ago.
Could you share more about Steven's past? He do give out a certain vibe.

How many of yall are waiting for Ashes and still playing wow or will keep playing until ashes come out?
It is fine as I still don't have money for an upgrade (pc) but I will! (for the greater good)
7.10 in the video - need a rogue to climb up first and use helping hand skill to assist his team with climbing up quicker
Im 100 with you and steven on this one great video to people to watch why a2 delayed
I hope i am still alive when this game comes out
I'm looking forward to Ashes
What do StarCitizen, Ashes of Creation, and Hytale have in common?
😏
Seems some expect a "complete" bug free game when they are actually testing dev builds in heavy development. Better to delay if its needed, the game will not be complete for years and you will not be playing during alpha and beta, you will be testing.
tbh im waiting for this game since i backed kickstarter and there was a time where i kinda lost faith in the project but now my faith with these showcases is restored 100% and i think it was the right decision since the war within and throne and liberty alone will dominate the market for short time so yeah i dont care anymore about a few months delay or whatever
'*'Intrepid delaying every time Alpha 1 : dang boy they wont do this again right?"*
Alpha 2 : .... well...
hey, is as they say, they have enough supporters already, lol. So i'm not Worried. I will play this game even if its 50years from now. It will be cool to use my grandsons to farm for me.
As for communication, well, Margaret have a new blue lens and a new blush filter, yey!
“You only have once chance to make a first impression.” Delay the game IMO
Very true! best example is new world. Had the possibility of being the next biggest thing in the genre, but they fucked it up hard.

Meh. Idc personally. Life goes on and getting hung up on a video game and every word and statement made by someone I don't know seems like a waste of energy.
