I find it interesting that as travs hockey career ends this new vlog pops up with a more affable seemingly more talented keeper following a very similar path to trav. Excited to see where this goes. And EFF the fed.
Trav didn't really have a hockey career. He just travelled around, sleeping in people's garages and sheds and giving them a tiny bit of exposure and a third goalie for practice. He's played fewer than 20 games combined over the past 4 seasons and got pulled from several of them.
@@youngsyr yeah, unfortunately it became clear he was just being used for a quick marketing boost in the fed and when he was actually given playing time he'd fall short to be polite about it. But I credit trav for not quitting. Rocha however, seems like he could actually squeak out a nice little career. He looks fast and coordinated.
@@adamseidel8901 Rocha is literally a different league to Trav - he's putting up decent numbers in Swedish Div II, which is one league higher than Trav was a back up and put up poor numbers in a couple of seasons ago. The fact that Rocha still got cut after training camp for a Fed team tells you all you need to know about what level Trav really is. Rocha is a few years younger than Trav too, so hope to see him move up the leagues in the next few years.
I have no idea why I'm so invested in this. Way more interesting than the actual Liiga... Also that was fastest baggage claim I've ever seen on Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Had to wait my snowboard bag for like 40mins.
Hahaha thanks! I'm really happy you enjoy the videos! It seemed fast in the video but it actually took a long time to get my bags. I was trying to catch the first train connection from the airport in order to make the train from Helsinki to Oulu. Because I missed the first connection I had to wait for the next one which is why I ended up missing my train.
Glad to see you starting to gain some much deserved traction. only up from here Andrew. be safe and continue to enjoy the adventure. much love big homie.
Glad you parted ways with the FED, my buddy played a couple of tough seasons in Port Huron and it was a big regret for him. Keep grinding it out and keep the dream alive. I grew up with Tim Thomas's younger brother and watched closely, Timmy eventually made it after many years riding the busses and if you have the determination you will too.
Yeah I think it’s for the best I returned to Europe. I think it’s better mentally but also I believe there’s more opportunities to move up. Thanks for the advice and yes I will keep working hard and grinding my way up. The journey is also fun! It will be cool to see where I started and where I end up.
Andrew has been all over the globe in a short period of time and now visiting Nivala and the team again, lol. Fantastic stuff to see Melo and Archie again aswell. I think I pieced together where you eventually signed for this season, but not saying it not to ruin the vlog story. A true hockey fan knows where to look 😄. Great content!
Lol yeah it seems all roads lead to Finland for me. Thanks! Happy to hear you're enjoying the content! I've been leaving some hints so nice to see you're putting things together. Hahaha yeah a simple google search would give it away. (EP) Thank you!
Honest question, what's your goal in hockey? Are you trying to play at a certain level and currently climbing the ranks to get there? Or are you just looking to play? Also, have you given yourself a timeline on when you're going to decide to hang them up and find your career?
My goal in hockey is to be the best goalie I can be and play at the highest level possible. I have a few top leagues in Europe which I have set as targets but I am open to whatever opportunities are presented to me. No there's no set timeline. As long as I'm having fun and can continue to make steps in the right direction I will continue to play. I'm not sure what you mean by "career"? I am a licensed realtor in Canada and would consider myself to have a "career" according to most peoples standard if that's what you're asking. Having said that, I think there's more to life than what I do for work. I could work full time all year and make more money but the experiences I have made over the last few years can't be purchased no matter how much money I make. Thanks and I hope that answers your questions :)
I love your videos. I just now looked you up on HockeyDB. I didn't know you played in the NOJHL. I'm sure I've seen you play at the Pullar. We go to a lot of Eagles games. Keep up the great content!
Thank you so much! Yeah I played in the NOJHL for a few years. Yes mostly likely since I've played a few games vs the eagles at that rink. I appreciate the support!
love the relentless spirit wish i wouldve kept playing like you i played goalie my whole life from sault ste marie michigan. i was being scouted by hometown division 1 hockey team the lake superior state lakers but never made team and just gave up after highschool where i almost won the hs state championship in michigan. congrats keep up the great content and hard work!
Thanks! I really appreciate the support. My goalie coach played for Lake Superior State University and I’ve played in Soo Michigan back in my NOJHL days. Wish you all the best
I just started trying to figure out how to get on a team in Europe. I play semi pro in the U.S. against former ECHL, AHL, and FED guys and there’s former European players here too and I’m competing fine. Just not sure where to start besides reaching out to teams.
For American Football there is a site for US Players to upload film and stuff and the teams can look at that and contact you. Euro Players or something it's called. I don't know whether there is a similar site for ice hockey as well, but It couldn't hurt googling for one.
The most important thing is to start. I would recommend reaching out to teams and figure out which leagues interests you. Try to find a contact and email them. It's like applying for a job. You will likely not hear back from most teams but it's about spending the time and putting in the work. I wish you best of luck!
I'm not aware of any really good websites like this for hockey but that's a great idea. Maybe someone in the comments knows of a site? Elite prospects is good for finding teams and doing research.
My son played Div III last year and part of this year and he kept finding that the commitment from the players is sorely lacking. Is that the norm in Finland or just at that level???
Yeah I’d say at the division III level the commitment isn’t so high since it’s not taken so seriously. My first season playing in Finland was division III. I still really enjoyed my experience but it’s not exactly what I was looking for in terms of competition.
im interested in chatting sometime, im coming back from an injury and working on training and getting back into competitive hockey, any advice? i played in the usphl and was walking onto a D3 school before the injury was a problem, life got in the way while recovering and i had a bout with bad depression. im back focused and hoping to find any path to playing the game that gives me peace inside
Send me a dm on instagram (@renaissancerocha) and I’d be happy to talk with you :) I’ll need a bit more information about your specific situation but overall I would just say to keep working on yourself and working towards your goal. As long as your constantly getting better and staying consistent that’s most important. Also try to put yourself in the best positions to be seen by the right people. It’s sometimes not what you know but who you know. Hope that helps but if you want to get discuss more I’d be happy to. I wish you well!

I work all summer to afford my lifestyle. Not usually but it depends on the league, team etc. Hotels were covered in the FED (Baton Rouge Zydeco) but I had to pay my travel. As for my trip to Finland I didn't have a team so I also paid everything. I am certainly not doing it for the money at this point in time haha.
Hello to you and everyone in Chatham! I have some family that live in area. Haha awe thank you! I appreciate the offer! I was thinking about playing in the GOJHL back in my jr. days but ended up spending most of my career in the NOJHL. I went to a camp with the St Thomas Stars when I was around 16
@@renaissancerocha hey, since you have experience with this stuff, can you tell me something? My sister in laws bro played for Chatham maroons a long time ago and he was a lights out defenseman. Best shot blocker I ever saw. But when it was time for him to go to college, he was going in London and he wanted to try out for their jr..B team (the Nationals) but the way it was described to me, they were so pissed about him leaving and possibly playing for a rival he said they dicked around with his paperwork and wouldn't release him. It always sounded weird to me. Like is that even something that can happen? And would someone really fuck with a kids future that bad because they didn't want to play against him for one season?
