@@onlyme112yes, but for a long piece, it can be quite difficult for the entire orchestra to stay together. The conductor is mainly there as a lighthouse for every musician to focus in on
It's what we do all our lives at rehearsals when it's the birthday of a friend/member of the orchestra, in every possible country, everybody with their own local version of the birthday song in that country. :)
It happens a lot in orchestra environments, but usually we do it during rehearsals, as the birthdays don't always line up with concerts It's always a fun activity 😊
that is if you even want to celebrate, a lot of people dont celebrate birthdays. i guess you are implying that a lot of people are dying young. yes, could be true. This is also another important consideration for having kids. perhaps better to not have if the chances are so high of dying young and leaving them without parents
The flawless transition and the look in his face were so precious. And his reaction in the end is just like mine would be. I gotta start all over again 😂😂
In this deeply selfish world we indeed need more of these moments, if only to show that surprising someone else is actually much more fun than being so busy with yourself.
Wow! Can't believe it was five years ago that I sang at your 75 year birthday... If there is anyone in particular I wish so many more birthdays, then it's you Karl! Not a Sir by any royalty, but a Sir by me, who have hunted for real music for all my life... Thank you Karl, for all that you have given me!
As you grow older birthdays don’t have the same effect as when you were a kid and mom and dad always made sure you had a party…this is awesome to always nice when you get old and someone surprises you for your birthday. Gotta love it!
I'd add, though, that I look forward to them more, and wish they'd last longer, than when I was younger. I think I take them less for granted these days.
I had the joy of attending his 70th birthday concert at the Albert Hall in 2014 - can’t believe it was a decade ago. Still have the CD he signed. Such wonderful music.
1 minute, that's all it took for me, someone who's been struggling recently, someone who has been lost in direction, this 1 minute special act, made me smile so much. thank you
One of the nicest birthday surprises I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. They did an amazing birthday rendition without the conductor. Happy Birthday Sir Karl Jenkins !
I love how even though the transition from the original Palladio to Happy Birthday featured material from the original composition, Sir Karl still knew something was up but continued to play it cool, but when they broke into Happy Birthday, his reaction was just gold ^_^
From Southern California here, I so wanted to be at that concert, had plans years ago but then Covid hit, I so adore the music this man composes! Perhaps someday, until then Happy Birthday Sir Karl!
Oh I lovvvvvve this!!!! The expression of initial shock when they were not allowing him to lead anymore, doing their own thing, then the calm delight! Love it🎉🎊🎉🎊
What city do you live in that struggles to bring in crowds for a classical music concert? I live in New York City where classical music is very popular. We even have a free Philharmonic concert coming up on June 12 for the masses in Central Park, which they do every year.
It was great! In this evening of mid April, when I went to congratulate Sir Jenkins at the end of the performance, I also wished him a happy birthday, and he replied: "It is in February." I'm still confused to why they did that! 😂

Nice one!!❤
I'm just here for how well they orchestrated Happy Birthday.
it was...quite elegant!
So very well orchestrated. So well planned..
@@hestergreen2031It's an easy song, so it was probably pretty easy for each individual member of the orchestra to improvise their own part.

Like a soundtrack to a movie.
This is the most luxurious way of saying happy birthday.
well said
My thoughts exactly!😍

Indeed😊. He's a young 80 too.
Gotta admit, even 'Happy Birthday' sounds majestic AF with a whole orchestra.
It was written by Mozart!
I felt it to the core
nearly everything sounds epic with a whole orchestra

Does this mean that orchestras don't really need conductors all the time?
Yes. I did not even know Happy Birthday had so many notes and chords! 😮
