    I'm near the county of Kent where Kate Bush grew up in Welling-My friend Fraser him and his family's GP was Kate's dad Robert Bush who worked in South East London in Plumstead. And we used to speak to him loads when he finished work or when we was in Kent in Bexleyheath,Welling, Dartford, Swanley, etc, on our bikes.
    He sometimes gave us a lift back to Kent from Plumstead-Such a nice man! + sometimes said hello to Hannah as well and she would make us massive jug of orange squash + met Kate/Del Palmer few times etc
    Great memories I will always cherish! 🥰
    There was also real drums as well as synth drums as well on this track!

    "What do you think makes this song so special?" IMO, the most critical words in her lyric are near the middle, "...come on darlin', let's exchange the experience...". With that simple expression Kate nailed the concept of human relationships - since the dawn of relationships. Kate is a child prodigy that became a lyrical genius. I hope this 'one' song encourages others to discover ten dozen of her other songs. The streaming numbers give me hope - she'll surpass 2.5 billion streams for her 123-song catalog in a few days.

    A friend of mine supplied Kate with a lambeg drum to bolster the Linn. Interesting tuning issues after the tape mastering 😅 need a bit more portamento on the main lead line methinks. Good job 👍

    • @NostalgicExplorer
      @NostalgicExplorer  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You’re absolutely right about the tuning issue-it’s surprising how much it changed after the tape mastering. And you’re spot on about the portamento on the lead; adding just a bit more would bring it closer to the original.
      Cheers, and thanks for watching! I loved hearing that story about your friend working with Kate. I can definitely hear the lambeg drum being used-she also used it for live performances, didn’t she?

    Good documentary! I myself have an ambivalent relationship with the song. It cannot be denied that it leaves a thoroughly melancholic, dramatic if not depressive feeling. I was the epitome of THE outsider at school at the time. If that wasn't enough, I further became deathly ill (maybe because of that). That's why songs like for example, "Running Up That Hill", a-ha's "Hunting High & Low", even Berlin's cheesy "Take My Breath Away" are a bit hard for me to take, what certainly does not apply to the high quality of the works, but merely the situation I've been in. That list could even be continued,...

    She used a Soundcraft analogue desk, and a Studer A80 2” 24 track tape recorder in her home studio, as well as the Fairlight and acoustic piano. Plus various other instruments. She recorded a lot of the vocals at her place but did some of the other parts, bass, live drums, more vocals etc in another pro studio. But she and Del mixed it at her place. An amazing achievement, really, considering how good it sounds.

    I use a module in Reason Studio that emulate those real EEprom drum machine like the Linn drum and also the DMX oberheim, Inphonix also release RX1200 , it's a VST3 and Rack Extension for Reason Studio that emulate a true E-MU SP 1200 this thing can sample anything you wan't and add those 8 to 12 Bit grittiness to any drum you have or want to sample, put some Wav or Aiff and your good to go, for the Fairlight im using the Arturia V Collection with the CMI V emulation that have the famous page R build in if you want to use as drum machine, but the Emulator 2 can do that to, the V collection have all the vintage gear recreate you want to for example use the Synclavier for is famous FM sound, it work also as a sampler that can recreate sound in FM by a complex modeling process, they also unleash all the limitation of the original, you can work as legacy with low tech sound or as a moderne with 24 bit quality . ^^

      Which module in Reason do you use? Scream on the digital setting? I was just thinking about this while scrolling through the comments. I have an SP1200 emulation in my MPC One Plus software but haven't tried it yet

    • @Meteotrance
      @Meteotrance หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @avace917 not really, the lofi filter from the Arturia Fairlight do the job, same for the RX 1200 , i just use a bit of high pass and low pass filter from the virtual SSL desk, the real linndrum sound emulation do the rest, i can use audiomatic transformer for the tape, but it's overkill , it's sound already a bit mufled because of the lofi quality of the vintage émulation. Using, EQ and comp carrefully, is also important it give the vibe but usually for the comp, im not over abuse it, i can try some pulltec from Softube , i have a lot of RE module from Softube and McDSP , i usually use Scream or Pullveriser when i need something more agressive, like Acid, Rave, Techno from the 90's, but not for 80's stuff like that. using the 4 track tape machine is Ok but not necessary, i have a real one to, but this thing have not the quality from a 2 inch multitrack tape machine from MCI or Studer, so it won't be that great as what they use in studio, but some tape emulation from U-HE Satin or Softube and also Arturia and Wave can do that studio tape flavour ...
