    A friend of mine supplied Kate with a lambeg drum to bolster the Linn. Interesting tuning issues after the tape mastering 😅 need a bit more portamento on the main lead line methinks. Good job 👍

      @NostalgicExplorer  วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You’re absolutely right about the tuning issue-it’s surprising how much it changed after the tape mastering. And you’re spot on about the portamento on the lead; adding just a bit more would bring it closer to the original.
      Cheers, and thanks for watching! I loved hearing that story about your friend working with Kate. I can definitely hear the lambeg drum being used-she also used it for live performances, didn’t she?

      @@NostalgicExplorer Not sure if a lambeg made it to live performances; most of the video footage I've seen seems to be military marching side drums.

      @@NostalgicExplorer The sounds were created in QB using the original Fairlight IIx source files. The same methods that Kate used to treat the sounds were then applied. thus creating the originals as close as I could get :)

    I use a module in Reason Studio that emulate those real EEprom drum machine like the Linn drum and also the DMX oberheim, Inphonix also release RX1200 , it's a VST3 and Rack Extension for Reason Studio that emulate a true E-MU SP 1200 this thing can sample anything you wan't and add those 8 to 12 Bit grittiness to any drum you have or want to sample, put some Wav or Aiff and your good to go, for the Fairlight im using the Arturia V Collection with the CMI V emulation that have the famous page R build in if you want to use as drum machine, but the Emulator 2 can do that to, the V collection have all the vintage gear recreate you want to for example use the Synclavier for is famous FM sound, it work also as a sampler that can recreate sound in FM by a complex modeling process, they also unleash all the limitation of the original, you can work as legacy with low tech sound or as a moderne with 24 bit quality . ^^

      Which module in Reason do you use? Scream on the digital setting? I was just thinking about this while scrolling through the comments. I have an SP1200 emulation in my MPC One Plus software but haven't tried it yet

    • @Meteotrance
      @Meteotrance วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @avace917 not really, the lofi filter from the Arturia Fairlight do the job, same for the RX 1200 , i just use a bit of high pass and low pass filter from the virtual SSL desk, the real linndrum sound emulation do the rest, i can use audiomatic transformer for the tape, but it's overkill , it's sound already a bit mufled because of the lofi quality of the vintage émulation. Using, EQ and comp carrefully, is also important it give the vibe but usually for the comp, im not over abuse it, i can try some pulltec from Softube , i have a lot of RE module from Softube and McDSP , i usually use Scream or Pullveriser when i need something more agressive, like Acid, Rave, Techno from the 90's, but not for 80's stuff like that. using the 4 track tape machine is Ok but not necessary, i have a real one to, but this thing have not the quality from a 2 inch multitrack tape machine from MCI or Studer, so it won't be that great as what they use in studio, but some tape emulation from U-HE Satin or Softube and also Arturia and Wave can do that studio tape flavour ...

      Actually it was a big deal. She was among the first to ever use the fair light before the world knew what it was. She pretty much helped pioneer its legacy status. She also changed the game with this song because she didn’t use any high hats on it. She wanted a different sound for the album.
