I love my Vari-Mu. I even use outside the mastering rack, in the regular music listening system.. it really helps make all the crappy recordings out there sound more enjoyable.
Thanks for sharing, I have one question, at wich number corrispond unity gain on the output knobs? ..It seems unity gain is where it says 0 but the problem is that if it's like that is not possible to drive the output wich is odd.. Thanks!
Thank you for this demo. Release time that slow gives me anxiety. Basically a fader pulling down a signal. When the song has a quiet section is going to feel louder than the loud section. When it engages again it'll duck pretty hard and sound odd.
Makes the unit more versatile. I had my Mu without the T-BAR and HPSC. I also had it modded by Manley with the T-BAR and HPSC, so I've experienced both! The 6386 without the T-BAR was definitely more colored/hefty with slightly lower headroom. It made everything shine, but you couldn't really use it on the 2-bus, as it would be too colored. The T-BAR and HPSC tamed the beast a little bit, making it more usable on different sources even on the 2-bus.
This , or a Gainlab audio Dictator? This would take me much longer to save for...am but a passionate hobbyist. Would I be missing out? I know they are different in just about every way other than fundamental topology
love what this compressor does to low level signals in the stereo image. makes things sound absolutely massive.

Render track, automate volume in a new session.
What does the T-BAR mod do? Do you have a unit with that modification?

I only wish you would have had a limiter only example. Other than that I am sold and will be buying. Are you selling this demo unit by chance?
How would you rate it for synths (Ie. not master bus, but synth groups) ?
