I won the Color Print of the Year last March in a competition that included photographers from 14 camera clubs... "White Paper & Light". Rather than photographing the paper from above, I had my camera on a tripod at about 45degree angle. I used several different colored lights. I will try photographing from above. Also, trying black & white showing a wide range of values seems like a good idea. Thanks!
Thank you, I teach photography to art students and am looking for new ideas for them to be creative but learn photography as well, this is going to be my next lesson for them.
Your chanel is pure magic ! so much creativity ! I'm a film photographer, so not the best way to play with macro photography but i will try ! Thank you for the inspiration and the ideas !
Completely blown away. I can’t wait to give this a try. I plan on using some of the images as backgrounds or parts of landscapes in other images. Thank you.
Well this is a channel dedicated to macro photography, and we manufacture those lights... so you've found yourself in the wrong place if you wanted something else.
@@Adaptalux I was very pleased with my first attempt. I used a slightly elevated translucent cutting board to set the paper on, then placed a battery-powered LED light (about 6" square) underneath. I laid 3 different colored filters from my flash units on top of the LEDs to create a multicolored effect. Lens was a 24-105 f/4 with extension tubes. Worked good for me.
Ben good evening. Somehow your tutorial popped up. Thought I would watch it and wow!! You explained and showed the outcome. I was so amazed by the beauty of how the outcome of using paper with light, I gave it a try. How amazed I was with my results. I wanted to say thank you . You've inspired me to carry on. Thank you.
Neat Idea! I can't wait to try this. Now I'm wishing I never got rid of my glass coffee table. Hmmm... I guess it's time to bring in the patio bistro table lol. That'll work 📷
@@Adaptalux It worked great. I don't have any fancy lighting so I placed my Macro ring light in a pie plate so it could shine upright thu the bottom of the table. Used red tissue paper for some color and white office paper for contrast. I really like how it turned out. You can see it on Instagram @photoswithali
Immediately after watching your video I spent a couple of hours experimenting, and I’m quite pleased with the results: www.flickriver.com/photos/robertward/. Thanks again.
Beautiful video. I'd been stuck at home due to Coronavirus. You recommend your Adaptalux light source. I'm planning to buy it in a near future. Can you adjust the light output coming from the rods individually? In the mean time I"ll use a flashlight and Lume Cube LED lights with colored gels. I think the folded paper with different colors could be used as a predule for a following video presentation. Thanks for sharing!!!
Once again the most simple ideas! Thanks Ben!I have some printer paper so will be trying this over Easter weekend 😊I will definitely be trying the heart shape paper idea . Stay safe. Andrea (Australia)😊
Hi Ben, I eventually got around to taking some shots using this technique. I have sent them to your email address, not sure if you’re receiving them. :)
Just got my light kit and played a bit after work last night! Love my very first shots with paper! Thx for the video tips!! Where can I share my shots???😁📷✌ Also...thanks for the tea!✌❤
Hi Becky, glad you gave it a go and the tea was enjoyed! Feel free to post your shots to our Facebook community group for everyone to enjoy, you can find it here - facebook.com/groups/adaptalux
Thank you. This was very helpful for my paper abstract shot...Cheers!! I used construction papers which was harder to manipulate but, I made it through. :-)
Fantastic Ben...i have tried this and as you said, it is really down to your creative imagination....can i ask Ben is Adapalux going to release any new colours for the lighting arms?...
There's not really any fixed settings that will get you the best results. If you are having trouble, i'd go to aperture priority mode and set it to the widest your lens will allow. that will give you a really soft depth of field and the camera will decide the rest :)
Thanks a ton Ben 😁👍 Have never come across a such beautiful thing. Tried these shots today. It gave me another reason to live and love life. Keep it coming. A great fan of yours. Every detail matters 💯💕
I'm so glad I've found your content @Adaptalux @Ben. I've been wondering which color lighting arms to start with once I purchase your product. Given how well this abstract project turned out I would love to give something like this a try since we're restricted to stay home. I think I'll limit myself to three color arms to stay within my budget. I wasn't sure how many arms you used for this video tutorial but I'm assuming based on the colors you had about three at a time max but I could be wrong. Any suggestions would help, Thank you!
I didn't use more than 3 here, you're right. The colours are all down to personal preference really but there are colour filters to consider too, might be worth getting 2 white arms and 2 colours so you can use filters on the white arms for a different effect and colour. That would be a good starting point for a Combo Pack.
They do provide different effects, the arms are much more vivid, but if you want a nice soft diffused wash, the filters are the way to go. Usually having the choose between them is handy!
Brilliant. Masterfully done.
Thanks John
So simple, so basic, so cheap ...... simply brilliant. Beautiful idea.
All of those things and very fun too!
So simple, so basic, so cheap, so, I'm gonna try it.

Its a great tutorial and though I don't have the coloured its worth giving it a go.
Even in black and white the shadows and smooth lines are very pleasant.

what kind of lighting you recomend in videos like you do? led? flash?
For something like this I would recommend LED lighting, it's much easier to see your results as you go.

Did you use colored lights or colored filters on the lighting arms??
Coloured arms. The filters would diffuse the light twice under the paper but might still work well.

Brilliant video i`m going to try something like this shortly. Great stuff very helpful. P.S Amazing shots so simple.=)
Cheers Pixie. let me know how you get on with your shoot!
Could the paper be cut in half it seems like it would be easier to stand up
It could but it would need to be a very straight cut to keep it all at the same height. It's not that hard to balance once bent an folded.
Gorgous idea, ben. Congrats. I have a question, if there is no glass table, how we can do this incredible job.
Anything semi-translucent would work, you just need to be able to stand paper on it and shine light below it. White plastic works well too!
