  • Finally sat down to share #mystory of how I was homeschool and how that impacted my decision to homeschool as well! Our "time & relationships" are our legacy; this investment is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children! I hope my perspective is encouraging no matter what season you are in!

When you spoke with so much gratitude for your Mom laying her life down for her children, it made me cry. It truly touched my heart because there are so many nights where I lie awake wondering if my children will appreciate the lifestyle my husband and I have chosen to live (which is often against the grain of the rest of the world). We do dedicate ourselves to them all day, everyday and we'll continue to whether we know if they appreciate it or not......but your video gave me hope. Heheheh. ❤😄🙂💞

Great video! I can relate, I’m also a second generation homeschooler currently homeschooling my kiddos. My mom started me off with abeka. I remember absolutely hating it 😂 so she switched to Sonlight. Sonlight isn’t Charlotte mason but Sonlight does use living books for their history bible and literature. It was so much better.

I LOVED this video! I stumbled across your simply Charlotte Mason review video after watching a few Sonya Shafer instructional videos trying to decide if I wanted to switch to her curriculum fully this year and this all was so helpful for me. I’m a first gen homeschool mom and I sort of did the opposite, I found CM right off the bat and clung to the better late than early mindset but now my oldest is 9 and I’m feeling like my current curriculum feels more like a diet than a feast and I want to take it up a notch. So thank you for all the detail in both the videos! So real, so encouraging!

Love this! I am a second generation homeschool mom too! Listening to this was so funny for me because you sound just like me! I grew up hating history too and I can’t remember anything 😂 I feel like I am learning right along with my kids and I’m finding it interesting for the first time in my life. We are starting a CM style homeschool this year. I am looking at Simply Charlotte Mason and Ambleside. I keep coming back to SCM because it’s family style. I would love to know how you make Ambleside work for the morning time. I’m still trying to put this all together for next year!

This is true 🥴 but I meant it in the way that many teenagers are just that "teenagers" one of my piano students (nice young man that goes to public school) the other day was venting about how all his peers are so immature and we talked about this very subject! (It can be in homeschool communities too) I think a large part of that is on us, not helping them mature and develop responsibilities and dragging out "adolescents". That's what I was going for in my comment if that makes sense! 😉

Thank you for sharing!!! You sound very similar to my homeschool experience back in the early 90s. My mom homeschooled us back when it was taboo, not much out there. We did Konos for awhile, A Beka, BJU, Rod and Staff, Saxon...all the old big names.. spellingpower.
But the thing I loved the best was allll the books we read. When we did Beautiful Feet, I loved it.
Now starting homeschooling my children..I want to instill that same love of reading GOOD books.

Thanks for sharing your story! The Charlotte Mason way pretty much sums up the way I have raised my four children from the beginning. Sadly, I didn’t know homeschooling could look/be like that until the last couple years. I wish I could go back 13 years in time and start our homeschool journey over. It’s funny, because looking back over the last 13 years of our homeschool years I bucked the system of what I thought was normal. I started out using Sonlight curriculum, which is literature based, so I wasn’t completely far from the Charlotte Mason way. Some people may find this sentence offensive, but I despise Apologia science. I always have and I refused to use it when everyone else in our co-op did. We tried one of their junior books through our co-op once, and my kids would say “not that boring book”. We quit using it after about 3 rough chapters, and stuck to what I originally had been using. It was a lesson learned, and now we never do science through our co-op. I LOVE Simply Charlotte Mason! Best curriculum discovery ever!
