I'm just finding this now, dimitreze. Just outstanding work you've done. The quality of the original film is often better than the deliberately "1950=style black and white TV" of the Crown. The early 1950s film looked brand new, and the Crown material (and I understand this is what the Crown creators aimed at, and successively hit) looked 70 years old.
I'm definitely jumping to look at your other comparisons, and I kinda just say "wow" at how hard you must've worked.

Living in Athens during the war, she rescued a number of folks from the threat of death by the Nazis. She could do that because she was royally connected and was able to receive food parcels. She saved the lives of her neighborhoods children, feeding them from her food parcels. Philip can be an ass but, as one learns by looking at some of his blood relatives, he certainly is not stupid nor a coward, his nephews are accomplished historians. He might have made a good King, at some point.

Choices like the queen standing up in an open-top car waving in Africa (the Crown) vs. waving while sitting down (reality), or Churchill struggling up the stairs to make his speech (the crown) vs. going smoothly down the stairs (reality).... These make a huge difference to the understanding of the character at the moment. I wonder why the directors chose to edit these moments.

First problem: Philip's mother did NOT attend the wedding as a nun; she came dressed so to the Coronation.
If the real wedding procession FROM the Abbey had been properly narrated, one would know that she appeared in a floor
length suit, walking alongside the Queen Mary. And that is just the first mistake.
I really loved the series because its point was not a re-creation but to be able to see round the corners of events.

    • @CamilleonProductions
      @CamilleonProductions 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

Agreed. They got the core facts right and built around that. Sure, they knew that Phillip's mother wasn't dressed correctly, but they wanted to make her recognizable since many people know she was a nun but probably don't know that she was in a floor length suit for the wedding.
They're trying to squash years of history into a few hours. If they didn't combine events and sensationalise some things people would complain that it's long and boring. If you want realism then watch a documentary.

I have countless favorite moments in season 1, but one of my very top of the list favorites has to no doubt be the entire storyline of Churchill's portrait, with the anxious revealing of it at Churchill's 80th birthday audience in front of the majority of Parliament and Cabinet Party, including of course friends and family and associates and admirers alike....
I will admit I was growing frustratingly impatient and hopelessly disappointed when every scene containing the painting of Churchill's portrait in the making was purposely denying us a peak at it.
At first I thought it was a major oversight by the shows Director, but then I felt silly when I realized the building intent behind its shrouded mystery. And that the brilliant banter between Churchill and the Painter was in NO WAY filler, but instead an absolute GENIUS way of revealing some of Churchill's most personal inner dialogue of tug of war that he battled with almost incessantly. In fact, the back and forth between them was I feel necessary to truly understand the man in the portrait once revealed.
The comments of the portrait artist towards Churchill I think frightened Churchill, and the way in which Churchill responded showed that he knew he could no longer hide the man he has become; though masterful and demanding of respect, he had been denying the one awful truth all of mankind must face and come to terms with eventually, ready or not: that he is the only one who still believes himself to be the eligible youthful savior he once was. He knew the truth however, that he was feeble and tired, and feared that his facade to all peering in was cracking, but he was never 100% too certain that was indeed the case UNTIL the portrait artist revealed it so thru banter and by the very man he saw at that moment in time, and therefore painted that man as such. We could see that Churchill was worried when each time the artist would speak an ugly truth to Churchill, Churchill would reply in a way of self defense, not fly by confidence-but worry and replied almost as if he was trying to convince the artist otherwise.
The revealing of the portrait was such an amazing moment. How factual was it I'd like to know? Is there actually footage of Churchill's disdain at the revealing?
What happened to the artist? Did he go on to produce famed paintings? Or was his career over at that point?
The part when Churchill was yelling at him back at Churchill's home was great! How he said it looked as if he was a sad creature trying to push a stool out. Hahaba
    Amazing!

The Crown is using plenty of the original newsreel footage, especially for the long shots where faces aren't visible.
What's also really funny is that Claire Foy is from northwest England, so her accent as the Queen couldn't be further removed from her real one.
