Hi, first and foremost, thank you kindly for taking the time to make these types of videos, especially for this caliber of vehicle which can be very expensive if taken to the dealer. I just bought my 06 PCS and am in love, it was a one owner with 105,000, almost perfect condition inside and out. My question is how long do these plastic pipes last in terms of years and miles on average? I'm not sure if the previous owner ever had them replaced and from the looks, it seems you'd have to go through this whole process just to get a look and see if they have. Would normal driving help them not to fail vs spirited driving, my vehicle is used half for business and half for enjoyment and so I rely on not having this fail when I need it for shows. Thank you again for these videos, it helps people like me extremely. Have a great day!

It's been over a week and now I have coolant leaking slowly from the under covers, I guess the previous owner never had them upgraded. Probably should have been vigilant while my 30 day warranty was still in effect. Lesson learned.

Nicely done! List of tools needed to remove parts would help a bunch. I'm about to dive into one. I don't have torx tools, for starters.

10:-00 Start - 18:00 Finish. I managed to break a Vacuum Mount off the Inlet Manifold so ALOT of time was spent rectifying that.

What’s a normal cost to do this?

I've had this fix done by the dealer 2 years ago and it cost upwards of 1900.00 if I remember correctly. There was a class action lawsuit on the original plastic coolant pipes but I didn't get in on it on time. Now I have a slow coolant leak anytime I run the heater and have to replenish coolant once a month. I'm no longer in a position to afford the dealer to fix, so can I assume the new aluminum pipes need replacing again? Or is it another area I should check? I don't look forward to doing all this work with limited tools. Is there a place I can check for a complete parts and tools list that I can order ahead of time? I've had the starter stick as well in the summer so I will be replacing that too. Excellent video, and makes it seem like I could theoretically achieve this myself. We'll see.

    Excellent video.
Just done mine and now I've put it back together.
Started it up and it's running really rough as if misfiring and when I press on gas quick I can hear the engine gasp as though leaking or sucking air!!! Any ideas what I may have done wrong?
    Thanks

alex stocks sound like you have a vacuum leak. You'll need to go back over your work. If you have a stethoscope that may help you find a vacuum leak.

How to Automotive thanks for the reply,
I'll have a good look again. Hopefully it's just something I've missed and not broken,
      Thanks for your time

I almost did most of this yesterday, problem i have is the 2 of the three heater pipes seem too big and loose even with the clamps on. Any suggestions?

  • @OverlandTT

Any idea why my secondary air pumps don't come on after doing the coolant pipes? Fuses are all ok and everything seems to be connected. Could there be something ive missed.
No OBD error codes for the pumps either. The readiness of the system monitoring shows catalyst monitoring etc which is all connected to the sai pumps.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

I've watched this video a few times now to get familiar with this job before I do it myself. Can't thank you enough. The only question I have is once everything is reassembled, do you vacuum bleed the system? I know Porsche recommends it but is it imparitive? Thank you.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Dorjee Gyadatsang I did not need to vacuum bleed it. Thank you for watching!

How to Automotive Thank you. So are you saying I won't need to either? What are the odds I will run into a leak? Don't want to buy the tool if I don't need to but also want to make sure I don't have to do the same job twice. Thanks again!

Hey there, great video. I wanted to ask, how could I see if these coolant pipes have been replaced with the aluminium ones? Could I physically see them if I popped the bonnet? I am looking at purchasing a Cayenne but really want to look out for the major things. Thank you!

You would need a mirror and a flashlight. Then if you take of the intake boot and look under intake with the mirror. Or you can ask for the service records.

Hey, I am about to replace thermostat on Cayene 4.8S, 2008. Two questions:
    - To replace it I need to do the same or it can be accessed from bottom somehow? (as I read some forums where people replaced it from the bottom of car.
    - While replacing thermostat is it must to change rubber o-rings as well, or I can use old ones :) ? (I know it is stupid question, but I cannot wait while the shop will get them to me)
    Thank you

Yerzhan Kanafin it comes out the top for sure. As far as reusing the O-ring you may get lucky and it may work out for you but it's a lot of work to take that chance. If your car has the plastic pipes underneath I recommend that you convert it to the aluminum ones.

Hey Brian, Is it possible or can you come and help me fix my coolant leak here on My Porsche Cayenne s 2008 . There is no way I could find a skilled mechanic to help me solve it here in Djibouti. Better for me to let you use my car and share similar fixing work on and pay for your costs to come on board.
