I would love a medical history off shoot! Maybe collabs with other channels? Off the top of my head: - Victorian apothecary - Modern drugs that were herbal (i see you metformin) - Anesthesia through the ages - Healers witches and wise women - Outlander reaction video - Star Trek doctor ranking!
I would love to hear more about both medicine and bustle dresses! Bustle dresses are my favorite style from the Victorian era and I would love to learn more about them!
I agree! Her bustle dresses are the best I've ever seen. It's so amazing to actually seen them in a video since there was mostly paintings of that time. They are even more beautiful than they look in the paintings. They must look incredible in person.
Beautiful! I would love to hear more about medical history and their supplies, while covering maybe the reason for the changes over history to when women were allowed "masculine" look and wore pants scrubs. Maybe a historical coverage over a few videos? That would be really awesome!! As a newer subscriber of your channel, enjoy your videos! Thank you for your time and effort to make!
I believe scrubs for medical professionals giving patient care and facing the public is fairly recent, only from the past couple-three decades. Before that, nurses wore uniform dresses and caps and physicians wore button-up shirts and business slacks or skirts. Only custodians and maybe orderlies wore scrubs on the floor. In the operating theater, that was different, of course. You wouldn't want to mess up your nice flannels. Now everyone looks alike.
The only TH-camr who can talk intelligently about BOTH bustle dresses and medicine. Not usually topics that overlap, but awesome That was also an insane amount of buttons to hand sew (though it turned out beautifully). More MD content is always welcome
Yes to both medical history and 1880s dresses! Also, if you haven't already heard of it, you'd probably like the podcast Sawbones, "a marital tour of misguided medicine."
More Historical Doctoring, please! You look fabulous in this, and did such an amazing job on it! If ever someone calls for a doctor at a convention where you're in attendance, there had better be cameras rolling (and hopefully no serious injury)! How freaking cool are you?
I love that you made that- there are so many bits and pieces that go together perfectly. Your biggest risk is people thinking it is so cool that they fake being sick to get the full Victorian doctor experience and see what's in the bag!
Would love a series on historical doctoring!! Your insight on how practices have changed would be really unique I think, especially if you try to explain what the old and new techniques accomplish. So much of the existing content for this topic omit the concepts/reasonings behind historical medical decisions. A video about hospitals in particular could be super interesting!
How someone has the time to be a doctor an, accomplished historical costumer and TH-camr, I will never know. What am I doing?! Am I living in slow motion?
I recommend you look into shoe repair shops for your bag. Skilled leather (shoe) workers are also able to repair bags as well. So make sure you do your research into their qualifications, how long they’ve been working, see examples of some of their repair work. There are some who have channels here on TH-cam promoting their skills.
There is something so satisfying seeing you in this dress. It is like two of the main aspect of your being have come together. Congratulations on finishing this project.
Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman is one of the things I credit for my interest in historical dress (Jane Seymour's loooong hair, tiny waist, and huge skirts *chef's kiss*) so yes, I'd love more doctor stuff videos.
This was so great Christine!! You should totally stuff some one time use ice packs (those breakable ones that you have to crush to activate) in there too. And since it's basically an emergency bag, maybe an emergency sewing kit and snacks (like granola bars, crackers, or chocolate) into your bag as well if you have the space so you're not carrying around more than one bag. For the pocket that is messed up, maybe hot glue or sew a new lining into that pocket, hiding the mess underneath it? Could even add a cardboard, foam, or polyester layer underneath to smooth it out and hide the imperfections. I think it would be too small to be worth turning into an insulated pocket but maybe not? Thank you so much for sharing! This was awesome!
I totally agree with the ice packs & snacks idea - Depending on the convention you can get a lot of people in big costumes who overheat & get dizzy, or people who don't bring food & get low blood sugar.
il looks amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I love bustle dresses. And I love the masculine touch of this particular dress. You did such a great job, considering how ridiculously complicated the pattern of those bustle dresses are.
A piece of leather may work as well, the glue won't seep so easily, too. I'd use a whitteling knife first to remove as much sponge as possible, and then use some sandpaper or a sanding tool like a dremel to make a smooth surface for the glue.
Ahhh, I can't even describe it, it just looks so good! And yes, I'd love to hear more about historical/ victorian medicine and its practices, it sounds so interesting!
this looks so good ! and I get a bit of gothic vibes which is always fine with me. and if you're up for medical history, I'll be sure to tune in for those videos! Like all the crazy things they did thinking it was fine, all the things we see as modern that they understood really well. (they being medical people at any point in time)
Yes please to more historical doctor content! You look SO smart, what a fabulous ensemble. Knock ’em out (and then revive them with your kit) at Costume College!
Phenomenal!! Congratulations!! Button envy is a thing!! And, finally, a "Yes!" to more lady doctor history and medical history. These crumps are frosting on the cake.
This whole outfit is PERFECTION. Also only you could make an outfit that’s so tailored and with such an insane number of buttons look (relatively) easy to accomplish ^_^ I can’t wait to hug you in this at costume college!!!
I'll be at Costuming College and can't wait to see that dress in person! It looks so lovely and I imagine it looks even better in person. I'm a geologist and am planning on making a geology-inspired gown in the next year. My great grandfather was a doctor in St. Bernard, Ohio (Cincinnati). When my grandmother was a little girl (early 1930s) she'd often run errands for him - including delivering medications to neighbors/patients. Since it was the depression, many patients paid him with eggs, food, or other items. Unfortunately, I don't have anything of his from that time!
More historical doctor stuff! A friend of mine was totally fascinated by an early medieval Italian woman doctor who wrote a definitive gynecological text whose name was eventually changed to male version. Tortula?
for something else entirely, i got a dress from linennaive, an italian linen one, and the elastic cartridge-pleated sleeves chafed really badly, but after removing them and altering the dress its become the most comfortable thing i have ever worn in my life. im so glad i learned basic sewing, suddenly i cant imagine how i ever got dressed without being able to alter anything i wore
This such a knockout dress! The history of it, the meaning of it, the 100 hours of hand sewing!!! Glorious. My grandfather was a DO and chief of anesthesia at a large Midwestern hospital from the mid 70s to 1989. But he started his residency during WWII doing house calls when he was in his early 20s. I remember when I was a kid in the mid70s opening up his old doctors bag and him explaining what everything was. To this day, I remember the specific smell of his bag: disinfectant, tubing, excitement. Would love to here more about women doctors in history!!!! PS- oxygen tubing really helps tying up tomatoes and beans in your garden. He even used it for drip system for his greenhouse orchids😊
Another outstanding historical gown! I am constantly amazed by your mad sewing/tailoring/pattern making skills. As an RN I would love to hear more about medical history- pharmacy history and plant derivatives, etc. Somebody mentioned reaction video to Starz Outlander series plants and herb use as medicine. Actually, whatever medical subject you choose would be fine.
This makes my heart so happy. I'm also a doctor, but my patients are of the 4-legged variety :) Such a cool way to honor the women who paved the way for us to have these careers. Also, of course, a GORGEOUS dress! Your attention to detail is so impressive
Yes! Yes to more doctor history and definitely to more bustle dresses! It was fantastic to see this dress on a person,I quite agree that it looks much better in motion.
I love that you're making this costume up to wear to events and thinking about how to balance the things you do in your leisure time with your profession. For the bad compartment, I'd consider bringing the bag to a shoe repair shop to see what they would suggest. My inclination would be to rip the lining out of that compartment and put in new lining, but I know that may not be what you would like to do.
I love this! As a PA student and sewist I am thrilled to see whatever you talk about but medical stuff especially! The dress looks fantastic on. My favorite part is the little waistcoat! I almost think you could wear waistcoat + blouse + trousers if you wanted a more anachronistic pants-themed look.
Awesome! I look forward to seeing this at Costume College! I'm about to start an 1886 project myself so this was really useful! From that standpoint I'd love to see more bustle content, but if you do medical history content I'll watch that too!
I would recommend adding Narcan, an Epi-Pen, and something to use as a pressure bandage in case an artery is damaged. The stuff you need while waiting for the EMTs and their HUGE roller bags.
I would love to hear more historical doctor stuff! I loved the fact about the caduceus not actually being the symbol of medicine in the previous video.
Yes for a video on the history of medicine ! Beautiful work, I love your approach of historical sewing and the level of details you put into research and conception of your projects
What a fabulous outfit! I love the way the skirt moves and omg the buttons! And how fun it will be attending a convention…as an unofficial attending physician! 👩⚕️
Love the outfit. I had a moment of 'seeing' my daughter who is a doctor running in that. :) As for your bag with the issue. Have you considered lining it with sticky backed felt? You could get it in gray, and line it. I've used the sbfelt with a number of older boxes and it looks great. I would love to hear more about being a doctor in the Victorian era as well. My spouse does first aid work for our SCA events, and he taught a class on first aid called "Know your leeches". As an herbalist, I've always been fascinated with healing and all of it's 'branches'.
I adore doctors' bags! My husband acquired one full of instruments at an auction recently. It was so neat to look at. I also acquired a smaller doctors bag at an auction recently and when i opened it, it was full of Victorian lace, trims, and glass beads. It was so fabulous to see original items that would have been put on dresses back then.
Cadeaux at the Chateau introduced you to me when one of their subscibers gifted them, among other things, a magazine with a photo spread of you in a sumptuous and gorgeous gown. I've always loved fashion of past eras and very pleased to be able to subscibe to your channel and watch your creativity flow. Like Stephanie, the chatelaine of The Chateau Diaries, I am amazed you have time have a demanding career as a doctor and create such sartorial splendor. Amazing!
I love the enthusiasm and dedication to history! Brava! a medical history video, expecially related to women's roles as healers/medics and presented in costume would be a treat
Could you line the ruined partition in the bag with something wipe-clean - like cardboard panels covered in sticky-backed plastic, or panels cut from thin lino...? Small sheets of lino are sold for lino-cut printing so it should be easy to get hold of without having to buy a length of flooring.
You look SO amazing! I will keep an eye out for you and your fabulous bag at Costume College. I would love to hear more about historical medical practices as well as any and all bustle era dresses. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. :)
Historical medicine would be very interesting and bustle dresses are fascinating, as well! You look so good in your doctor's gown! I'm excited to finally see the completed look!
This is gorgeous, and those buttons are a perfect accent. I much prefer the solid wool gowns to all the frills and silks (although those can be great too). As for channel content, I love listening to people talk about what they love, so anything goes.
This came out great! And I’d love to hear more about medical history, especially from a doctor! I have chronic illnesses so I’m very familiar with modern medicine and have always been curious about how it has evolved. I’m excited to see what you come up with!
Absolutely here for the 1880s bustle dresses. I also love that look, although I've described it as more of a stately swan than lady centaur 🤣 I'm so stealing that
Hello sawtine you have made so many beautiful gowns over the years since i have been watching you But i do believe this is one of my favourites. I think its beacuse you are a Doctor and it just fits you so beautifully and the design with all the buttons just makes this Doctor outfit so extraordinarily Beautiful. Thank you for all your hard work putting the vlogs together for us all to enjoy you look beautiful in your Doctors outfit❤
I have a thrifted briefcase that had something horrible and crumbly like foam in it and I ended up making a cardboard box lined with paper that fit down snugly into the case over the foam residue. You could definitely do the same thing with cardboard lined with fabric for the drawer full of sponge bits
Imagine fainting at a convention and waking up to a Victorian doctor! I think I’d panic thinking I time travelled for a second 🤣
Hahaha you're so right. Best way to wake up.
`yeah, that looks like it needs a pint of bloodletting`
I would love a medical history off shoot! Maybe collabs with other channels? Off the top of my head:
- Victorian apothecary
- Modern drugs that were herbal (i see you metformin)
- Anesthesia through the ages
- Healers witches and wise women
- Outlander reaction video
- Star Trek doctor ranking!
Yards and yards of black fabric, and a fluffy white dog. Here is a lady who likes to live dangerously!
This dress is absolutley spectacular!
I would love to hear more about both medicine and bustle dresses! Bustle dresses are my favorite style from the Victorian era and I would love to learn more about them!
yes please, that would be awesome😄
Yes please. I'd love to know LOTS more about the early female doctors.
I agree! Her bustle dresses are the best I've ever seen. It's so amazing to actually seen them in a video since there was mostly paintings of that time. They are even more beautiful than they look in the paintings. They must look incredible in person.
‘Sexy Centaur Lady Look’ actually sounds fabulous 😂 (P.S. Happy to see glimpses of ‘The Gilded Age’)
Also, for repairing the case-- Adam Savage has several videos that feature building or refurbishing cases of various kinds. Might be useful for ideas!
This outfit makes you look like you should be investigating Victorian crimes alongside an eccentric detective. I am loving the Dr. Watson vibes.
What a great pairing with Bernadette Banner in her Lady Sherlock outfit that would make! (except for the non-matching eras, lol)
@@pistachoo. I didn't know I needed this, holy shit.
Beautiful! I would love to hear more about medical history and their supplies, while covering maybe the reason for the changes over history to when women were allowed "masculine" look and wore pants scrubs. In the operating theater, that was different, of course. You wouldn't want to mess up your nice flannels. Now everyone looks alike.
I love this ensemble! All those buttons give it a serious and "don't mess with the doctor" vibe. While still being fashionable for the era.
This old nurse would love old medicine content, and bustle dresses. Love your content
Stunning doctor-centaur outfit....I vote yes for more historical medical informations, thank you!
The only TH-camr who can talk intelligently about BOTH bustle dresses and medicine. Not usually topics that overlap, but awesome
That was also an insane amount of buttons to hand sew (though it turned out beautifully).
More MD content is always welcome

Yes to medical history! Plus all those buttons were so worth it, I'm glad you put all that time in
If people ask if you are truly a doctor when there is an emergency happening right there, just swing the bag in their face and then offer Tylenol 😆
I think you forgot something in your ensemble. The pocket watch or a piece like it. Maybe a pendant watch or one that pins to the lapel... 🤔
The buttons REALLY makes the dress! Congratulations on finishing the dress ensemble.

Omg I loved that show as a kid! I totally forgot about it! Thanks for the reminder, I’ll have to see if I can find it again

il looks amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I love bustle dresses. And I love the masculine touch of this particular dress. You did such a great job, considering how ridiculously complicated the pattern of those bustle dresses are.
You could always cover the weird spongy part in fabric (velvet could be cool) and sort of glue it in with contact cement!
A piece of leather may work as well, the glue won't seep so easily, too. I'd use a whitteling knife first to remove as much sponge as possible, and then use some sandpaper or a sanding tool like a dremel to make a smooth surface for the glue.

I'm borderline obsessed with this dress! It turned out so well and suits you perfectly. In a way, it's so weirdly satisfying as well
Another outstanding historical gown! I am constantly amazed by your mad sewing/tailoring/pattern making skills. As an RN I would love to hear more about medical history- pharmacy history and plant derivatives, etc. Somebody mentioned reaction video to Starz Outlander series plants and herb use as medicine. Yes! Historical medicine, especially early women in medicine.
Fantastic dress, it’s amazing with drape, the buttons, impressive sewing.
This makes my heart so happy. I'm also a doctor, but my patients are of the 4-legged variety :)
Such a cool way to honor the women who paved the way for us to have these careers. Also, of course, a GORGEOUS dress! Your attention to detail is so impressive

Yes on medical history and more of the 1880s bustle dresses! The dress is amazing.
Spectacular! You're the exact picture of how I imagine a professional woman trying to be taken seriously would present. Bonus: You look gorgeous!
I love that you're making this costume up to wear to events and thinking about how to balance the things you do in your leisure time with your profession. Wonderful Lady Doctor's Dress! I would love to hear about historic Doctor stuff!
I would love more stuff on both historical medicine and on more 1880's dresses!
Thanks for this, my physician Dad made house calls in rural Michigan in the 60's and had a big compartmented bag that fascinated me as a kid.
I want both! Dr stuff and 18 80s dresses! Love everything you do thanks so much
MEDICAL HISTORY YES PLEASE! Do one with Mama Doctor Jones on the Maternity Corset! Also add Abby Cox and Nicole Rudolph.
Great episode! I would LOVE to hear more historical doctor stuff. Particularly the late 1700s and early 1800s ^_^
I would love to hear more historical doctor stuff! I loved the fact about the caduceus not actually being the symbol of medicine in the previous video.
Yes for a video on the history of medicine ! Beautiful work, I love your approach of historical sewing and the level of details you put into research and conception of your projects
I would love to hear more medical history. One of the focus for my degree in history was medical history!!!
What a fabulous outfit! I love the way the skirt moves and omg the buttons! And how fun it will be attending a convention…as an unofficial attending physician! 👩⚕️
The pink bandage wrap you packed was original used on farm animal back in the 1980s - its awesome stuff
The draping and bustle is so beautiful. Love your eskie.
I'm here for whatever you want to make but bustle dresses and history of medicine are both cool topics
Yes to historical doctoring, please!!! Love you content, btw. Fantastic work.
Simplest way I can think of to repair the compartment is reline in with sticker back felt
You look amazing, the hat's adorable!
Based on witnessed experience, ambu rescue masks might also be a good add for your bag. Lovely outfit. 10 out of 10.
The whole look is fabulous, that skirt is so amazing and the accessories are just *chef's kiss*
That turned out gorgeous! I would love to hear more history of medicine.
Add a Plague Doctor mask for extra freak out ability! 😂 Loving this look by the way!
Yes to both historical medicine!!! Also yes to more bustle dresses
I would love to see a video on medical history!! Congratulations on your dress! It’s beautiful 😻
Talk about medical history and historical doctor stuff: YES!
I would love a video on medicine, concentrating on the beginnings of women in medicine, and the first woman Dr's.
Absolutely here for the 1880s bustle dresses. I also love that look, although I've described it as more of a stately swan than lady centaur 🤣 I'm so stealing that
the completed dress looks amazing! and i love all the accessories. Would love to see more historical medicine content as well
Hello sawtine you have made so many beautiful gowns over the years since i have been watching you But i do believe this is one of my favourites.
Wonderful! Your smile after getting dressed is amazing! Congratulations on your beautiful Doctor dress!
Would love to learn more about period medicine
It looks absolutely incredible! You have such amazing skills. I just totally love the whole outfit.
We need to see a photo shoot with this outfit!!! Looks amazing! 🤩
It's brilliant, Christine!! And the idea of folding in some medical history is too. Can't wait to see what you do first!
Yes please for both historic medicine and bustle dresses!
I have a thrifted briefcase that had something horrible and crumbly like foam in it and I ended up making a cardboard box lined with paper that fit down snugly into the case over the foam residue. You could definitely do the same thing with cardboard lined with fabric for the drawer full of sponge bits
Wonderful!!! It would be highly interesting to learn more about medical history and doctoring. I enjoy how thorough you are in explanations xxxxxx
Love this outfit on you! And yes, I'd love to see you in more late bustle period dresses 🙂
she must be such a fun doctor. I wonder if any of her patients ever watch her videos.
I think historical medicine would be interesting to learn about. Loved this series of making your lady doctor outfit. You rock.
I would love hearing more about about historical medical things and fashion
So beautiful love all the Victorian bustle dress
would TOTALLY love to hear about historical doctoring! This came out amazing
