    He is amazingly smart. Truly inspirational to hear him talk. I think there is something to add. I think that by now Netflix is overvalued, great company, but overvalued. I sold my shares, I will wait for the company to drop to 25-30 billion market cap and then I will buy again (now valuation is around 60 billion). 2017 will be an interesting year.

      Dav Ah well you need to know exactly what happened.... bought the shares at $97 sold at $160 and bought them back last year at $240 I’m thinking of exiting next week from my position at $480-500... so my total return is 230%... I think it aged well

    Both 3d companies and Tile Shop were down from 60% to 95% just 2 years after this video, while Twitter (down 20%), Tesla (flat), Amazon (up a little), and Zillow flat over the same couple of years. Since then the 3d companies are still losers, but the others at least doubles or went meteoric. Interesting lesson about "short term" mindset and "not all picks are winners".

    How can I start investing. I'm going to the military in a month and I want to not just depend on my military check. I want to learn how to save and invest. I wanna learn how to have assets that make me money. Instead of having liabilities or just spending money on expenses. Please help me and give as much info or books to read or whatever info. Thanks so much.

      David Williams I hate nobody replied to this. I currently use vanguard and Robinhood. I invest in etf’s through vanguard because it’s free, and stocks through Robinhood. I also put money in my tsp. I’m in the military as well. I take a certain amount out of my check every month to invest before I pay any bills. One thing I learned from reading rich dad poor dad is to pay myself first. Some other good books are unfair advantage by Robert kiyosaki. I’m about to start a new book: The true cost of happiness by Stacey Tisdale. My recommendation is to live below your means I.e. no new fancy car or big house you don’t need. Limit your credit card use if you have to use it.

    Joseph while I am not an analyst I consider myself to have some experience in stock picking and I too struggled with the notion of finding get companies and then finding that I was not able to realise the gain. However many time that small stock pick can't grow as a big company or that cyclical stocks earnings decrease in recessionary periods. These are two excitement times to lock in profit. Often, too, if you own cyclicals and sell them at A good time you can buy Growth companies at rock bottom prices. Buffet and peter lynch do/did most of their buying in down markets. I blog on stuff like this so if you have the time be sure to take a look at my blog and videos... Cheers

    Question Mr. Gardner,
    I am a huge fan of you and the Motley Fool. You guys truly are the main reason why I enjoy stock investing and am pursuing a career around finance. My question is: if you never sell, are you really ever making any profit? Your stocks may have grown in value, but your pocket stays the same size. Do you ever sell shares just so your playing with "house money"?

    • @josephdicriscio7470
      @josephdicriscio7470 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joseph DiCriscio I suppose dividends can land you real money. But unless you need the money, always stay invested. Your goal should be long term, which for most people is retirement.

    Motley Team:
    Please answer my question. What is Dave's net worth? Why he doesn't operate his own fund with other people's money, he would be much better off than living off annual subscribers. Please this is very important for many of us who want to buy your services. Dave is your messiah, he says "look management in the eye and trust them" this is very important information. He apparently has a knowledge to be a billionaire, is he? And if now, why not? Thanks

      I like their publication, there is a lot of good information to be had from Fool.com, but this "pay for stocks picks and beat the SP500 by 200%" rhetoric is obviously full of shit to any investor who knows what they are doing.
      They do have some actual funds, all fail to beat the SP500 in the long run. (www.foolfunds.com/)

      @@MakeTaxationTheftAgain It blows my mind when people speak with conviction that can be proven wrong by simply Googling something. At the very link you posted, both of their ETF's have outperformed the S&P500 since their inception. Do you just say things and hope that people don't look up the actual facts? Through services like Stock Advisor they literally post every single pick. It's not a scam. It's not difficult to fact check. You can go back and read the articles of them recommending Netflix, Shopify, Amazon, etc. long before they were household names. My guess here is that you've never used a service and are simply jealous of other people's success.

    • @49fiori
      @49fiori 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You may not like him, and that is OK, but to say never trust Americans is silly. I know for a fact that my father bought $250 of Amazon shares in 1997 when he worked for an American company, he forgot about his account, and he activated his account again in December 2016 and we were all shocked when his portfolio was worth $107,831, he sold his shares and had 100k that he never thought he had.
