- It's time to engage in jolly co-operation as Az, Lance, and Coco try to survive a game of Dark Souls The Card Game from Steamforged Games due to release 16th March 2018.
Playing as a tank Knight, a healing Herald, and range damaging Sorcerer we'll be making our way through progressively more difficult enemy encounters, gathering souls and equipment, which can then be used to improve our deck of cards, before facing the final boss fights!
Your deck contains equipment, items, and spells which are used to heal allies, damage enemies, or block incoming damage. However, the abilities of these cards have a stamina cost to play. Generally, the more stamina cards from your hand you use to play an ability the more damage you may do or incoming damage you may block,
However, a players deck represents their health, making each encounter a delicate balancing act. If there ever comes a point when a player has to draw a card and cannot, they are out, and all players must return to the bonfire to rest and recover.
There are five bonfire cards in total so making sure you use them sparingly and deciding when to return will be very important.
We had a lot of fun with this one but let us know what you think.

Awsome Gameplay i loved it
The edition to show the cards and the angle of the camera to show cards was pretty useful

I’ve never watched a whole play through before today. Wow! This looks much better than the board game, I’m definitely picking this up.

DS Chops I’ve played the original board game once with the core rules and it was a bit to long for me, random and really grindy. I’ve heard that it’s better with modified rules.

"grindy" that is Dark Souls. What the hell did you expect?
Boardgame is closer to the video game than this shitty card game of RNG.
RNG = drawing random cards for your weapons and armor which severely limits what you are allowed to do.
This card game certainly needs a lot of modified rules to work in line with the video game it is based on.
Kindlesmith80 it’s Random by the gear you get... sometimes you can’t even use the gear. There’s also a limit on grinding in a board game and dark souls passes that limit. In DS the video game you could pause and leave... the board game makes it difficult to do that.
Even on their web page they said that the card game is a better version of the 2. There’s a reason for that.

That comment I made was the most cryptic one yet.... *sigh*
What I meant to say was there are game books (eg. Lone Wolf) that use tables to randomly generate numbers, and there are pen and paper role playing games that utilize dice to randomly generate numbers. Cards themselves could very much also be used to generate random numbers (see games like Fairy Meat and Malifaux). All of these are random number generators.

I'll throw in on your remark. Try to use better words to convey your argument since it makes little sense.
Consoles exist in the real world as does coding. Dice exist in the real world as do those game novels. All of these exist and have impact on the real world through use much like everything else. They aren't imaginary.
I mean watch loto. They roll a bunch of balls in a machine and pull out several to generate random numbers. Physical objects in the real world.
Each card can be given a number and the drawing of a card is to take one number from what was a generated pool (a shuffled deck of cards). So the shuffled deck and the drawing of the card is RNG. If you are too limited to see this, you may want to grow a little mentally. Go out there, outside of that cave you are living in, and join the real world of amazing things. It really doesn't take too much effort to do and you will be enlightening what you may discover. Peace out.
Edit: Yeah I came back to edit my message since it will confuse pretty much anyone who may have read it and doesn't know me. This was originally what I wanted to say, but less all over the place. XD
Any time there is a random element in something my circle bases it off RNG. I nutshell it is the exact same thing, getting one result from a predetermined randomized whole. Numbers may not even be needed as anything could be assigned one. there may be a more accurate word for it, but we aren't in any way required to have such professional use of terminology in our lives. All it matters is being able to understand one another when we communicate. As for words and language, you may be surprised to discover that it evolves as it is needed to. You wont find people all over the world worrying over cattle as the term cattle has changed from years back to what it is today ;)
It looks like they finally got the spirit of Dark Souls right, I'll gladly play this once it finally gets home

Recently got this and all expansions a lot of fun would just like to say u guys earned a sub I’ve watched a few play throughs but that was by far the best helpful n most enjoyable to watch well done
If you swap positions with another hero, it uses up both your move actions for that turn. Also it's if your starting hand contains a weapon that determines the mulligan, not equipment.
Thanks for the playthrough guys. I received my copy yesterday and this helped a lot. Can't wait to see some expansions to this.

Does the armor on the enemies block the certain amount of damage on every attack, or the armor is just like hp in plus? For example 1 armor will always reduce incoming damage by 1, or is it just like 1 additional health?
Everytime. Unless you attack their weakness which bypasses the armor value.
I think this game is great, but it really needs expansions to shine. It would be great to get most bosses in the next expansion and maybe even more items or additional rules.

i think the instructions say you can reshuffle the primary draw if you dont get an ATTACKING card (36:36)
i have a question i havent noticed this piece of instruction anywhere... for melee attacks, do you need to stand in the first row of your board to be able to attack or is it just important you are in the same column as the monster and yourself and the front row back row is not important as long as no monster or other player stands in between? the instructions only mention column, but it doesnt specificaly say about the row... just that players and monster cant be in between... thanks for help
You don't need to be in the front row to melee attack. But if you are in back row and you have another character in front you can only attack using a ranged weapon. Same for targeting an enemy behind another

It seems the last Area Attack missed, because it Targeted the Enemy's front Row, but the Main Boss was at the middle Column of the bottom Row, so technically, if Area Targeting works the way you have dictated in this walkthrough, the Attack would have missed the Boss, so you actually failed to kill him, and the game has not ended.

I have a small doubt. At minute 1:34:10 the Overhead Smash card is shown, indicating that the character pushes backward the character in the front centre row. However, in minute 1:34:46 it is assumed that not only the attack effect of the character (which is clear from the rules) but also the push effect are transferred to the hero located in the first row (in this case the Knight). Is this correct? In a couple of games where we have played Vord, we have assumed that whereas the attack effect is passed to any character in the corresponding row when there is no hero in the incumbet column, other effects are not inherited. Can someone please comment on this? Thanks!
So when you take damage you have to discard that number from your hand/deck? And they go to discard pile which cannot be used anymore?

The guy on the right should have done a mulligan, since he did not draw a Weapon Card. The Gold Pine Resin is not a Weapon.
When your Weapons do Area Attack, which of the Rows and Columns shown on the graphic are Targeted?

Lance in the studio loves the card game, whereas Justin loves the board game. It's just a matter of preference. :)

In generell you pick the cardgame mutch more often, because it takes 1-1h30min and is easyer to explain for new palyers. Therefore the boardgame is more for collectors and take easly 3-5h or more for experienced players coast a lot but has more options and ways to play. So I say how mutch time and money you want invest tell you wich one is the right for you.
Am I missing something or when Vordt did the double swipe on the front row and there was nobody in that row surely he'd hit the second row instead like any other enemy ?
When an enemy attacks an whole area like with the Area Attack icon it just hits those places. The shifting between rows thing is only for a single area attacks.(Reference Rulebook page 22 Area Attack).

I must have misread the rules. >_< I was flipping cards form the top of my deck when I took damage, not selecting a card to discard form my hand.
you can do both, it's your choice. if you take lets say 3 damage you can discard 2 cards from your hand and 1 from your deck
@@Boldo921 I will certainly try to remember that in my next game. Seems to be a better way to remove unwanted cards from my hand without risking those still in the deck. >_
@@ChimeratAlpha how do you like the game? I bought it straight with both expansions and I love it but I have to admit that some characters (Cleric and Thief) are definitely weaker than the rest. Knight is absolute monster tho
@@Boldo921 I've only had a chance to play it a handful of times, all solo.
I'd say the game it okay so far. I haven't tried all four characters yet, and don't have any of the expansions. (Plus making it harder on myself by just straight discarding from the deck 100% of the time.)
My last attempt a few weeks back, I had managed to defeat one boss, but I was on the last fire, so the second one was able to kill me very easily.
Find which character is harder highly depends on what weaknesses the monsters have and how lucky your draw was.
@@ChimeratAlpha in my opinion playing solo in this game is not fun, 2 players (or you controlling 2 characters) is very fun but the best time I've had was when we played as 4 with friends, it was epic
The only one that tells you what kind of reward you get is Vordt. How do you know what to get from the other bosses in the game?
Maggot King556 each encounter card lists how many of each level enemy you get and how many treasure cards for defeating it. Each enemy card has the souls you get listed on it.
The talisman is not an attack.. i know this is 6 years to late lol. Using the talisman is considered a non attack action.
Any advice about evolving the decks for being more efficient per character?
Can you tell us how many enemies have special abilities? I am worried about the foes not being versatile enough for the added challenge. Are there alternative modes?

When exploring the rulebook says if you continue after an encounter the next encounter needs to be next to the starting position or next to an encounter already cleared. After your first encounter at the bottom you did the one at the top - not next to either the start or a cleared encounter. Is this right?
Yeah, I just got the game and ran into the same problem. Came to this video to get clarification on that but I can't seem to find any official word on what is correct or not.

I played where it cost you a bonfire to get to the top. Adds to difficulty and keeps with its 60 minute playtime

It's a card game...
It took me like, 20 minutes to organize the cards properly in the box. And it takes me about 10 minutes to set up the game. You're either a nine year old. Or incredibly dense.
