You know, I think of Nat’s character arc, and in my opinion it’s one of the best ones in the MCU. Hear me out. She started off in iron man 2, as a secretary with a skill set on the side. She was portrayed (this wasn’t scarletts fault at all, but the male heads of the film) as a sexy woman who could fight (she should have gotten more fighting time). Nat rarely showed honest emotions, and this made her seem less powerful (in my opinion). In avengers, she showed much more emotion, with her relationship with Clint and his family, but still lacked the overall power that she got later. I feel like her hand to hand fighting seems much more powerful and impressive than her shooting a gun, which I know is hard too, but the hand to hand fighting goes a long way in showing the strength of a character. In civil war, she becomes a larger voice in the group, and she seems to gain a bit more respect for her male counterparts. In infinity war, her interactions with new people (specifically the women, like Okoye, and her continued relationship with Wanda) seemed more genuine than most of her previous relationships. She seemed stronger, and more confident in voicing her opinion (this could be due to her experience with Yelena). In endgame she ran the avengers while everyone else was trying to cope. She deserves so much more credit for what she did before Scott came back and the time travel plan began. Then she sacrificed herself. She finally found her purpose, and that raw emotion that I personally had been waiting for. Now jumping back to Black Widow. How the director (a female) let Scarlett portray Nat was the best I’d ever seem. She seemed, strong, confident, and genuine, like she wasn’t forcing anything (unlike in some previous films). She wasn’t portrayed as purely a sexy character, but as a real person with real emotions and stories. We also got to see her soft side, which I thought was great for her arc, to see how she interacted with people from her past, and not when she was fighting. Overall, Nat is one of my favourite characters in the MCU, and I’m so glad future generations of girls will have her to look up to instead of just the classic Disney princesses.

This difference is so notable to me, because, if you go back and watch Natasha scenes from previous movies (and look past Natasha’s default stoicism), she and Yelena are actually very similar in a lot of ways. They dealt with their trauma differently (Serious Big Sister vs Freedom Loving Little Sister), but they’re still clearly connected. I’m so sad we’ll never get to see them together in a setting where they can both be themselves.
Favourite marvel duo and female duo. These two are amazing we should have seen more of these two together it would be iconic and hilarious and they could have some more of Yelena mocking Natasha’s posing hahaha. All jokes aside RIP Natasha Romanoff ❤️
