@@MegaLotusEater oh my bad lol. I thought you were talking about the concept of love itself. As far as this song goes (and the whole album, for that matter), it's not exactly known in the SP's catalog as being their most poetic work. To add to what so many others are starting to say here, I will tell you why this song is so great and why other love songs are not like it: conviction. It's describing a love that is fueled by conviction, resolve, and one that is divine in origin, in Billy's own words. How many love songs do you hear saying things like "For the first time, I'm telling you how much I need and bleed for your every move and waking sound. In my time, I'll wrap my wire around your heart and your mind. You're mine forever now." And those lyrics in the musical setting they're in communicate a bold declaration of commitment and fact, almost devoid of emotion or opinion. That's a type of love that's an unmoving object, and that's freaking powerful. That's in a completely different universe from the love that pop music describes. It makes me happy to see this song so celebrated in the comments, as usually I don't hear this song praised anywhere near enough by Pumpkins fans.

I used to sing this song to my daughter when she was a baby. I know its reflective of the bond between lovers, but it's always made think of the bond between mother and child. However you interpret it, its still a beautiful song.
Erato IsYourMuse that's cool. Finally, someone else relates the lyrics to a love outside the typical romantic relationship. I always thought it was about God and His chosen children.
When i was young and heard this song for the first time, i was mesmerized. This is one of the most beautiful ways for describe love. It tells exactly what you feel when someone means everything. Billy Corgan it's a truly poet.
It’s songs like this which make you realize just what a talented and unique songwriter Billy was and still is. I find this song to be almost unbearably sad and desperate, yet at the same time it’s a powerful and reaffirming celebration of love, and is in that way uplifting and hopeful. You just don’t get songs like this anymore. Billy will go down as one of the all time greats for melodies and lyrics like this.
I read the article In "Modern Drummer" where Jimmy Chamberlain talked about coming back to be with the Pumpkins after being away. Billy asked him to come back and drum for Machina, and Chamberlain was so excited. Chamberlain said he practiced and practiced to get ready; he was worried about his 'hand speed.' One of the greatest rock drummers ever!
@@geriwurth4008 He's in my top five of all time . He plays with such amazing taste and sense of dynamic. It's very much so bringing musical elements into their songs instead of just " playing a beat" .
As usual....i forgot that they are my favourite band, until its sunny and I'm playing music outside while drinking lol. Still stand by my statement, best song they've ever written. Never heard a band with better choruses.
2018 for me. On the eve of s12 of Trailer Park Boys I decided to get drunk in honour of Jim Lahey, that beautiful drunk bastard. Then drunkenness led me to this. My all-time favourite pumpkins tune 🤩
First of all I love this song so very much. Secondly, I don't really understand why people feel like this album, or even "Adore" are some radical departure from their previous sound. I've been a huge fan since Siamese Dream came out, and to me it all sounds like good old Smashing Pumpkins.
God, I remember being in Las Vegas when this album came out and the Virgin Megastores had huge promotional posters festooned all over the place promoting the new MACHINA album. Hard to imagine a time when record companies still had big marketing budgets for rock acts.
The video is based on the illustration Salome(the beheading of john the baptist) by french art nuevo illustrator Aubrey Beardsly. Aubrey worked prodominantly black and white and drew strong graphic shapes of the movement. This SP video captures all the visual elements of his art work while telling the tale of the last days of john the baptist.
I wanted to use this song for my wedding that never happened. I sometimes listen to it but it always brings back a bit of an ache because of how devistalingly romantic it is to me. I cant get over the feelings I have when I see this music video and listen to this song, one day, I hope, I'll be able to use it.
@@matthewspooner8720 Thank you for your kind words. I kinda forgot I made this comment because a lot has happened since then. I still dont have anyone but sometimes it's good to be by yourself.
You know what's so cool about The Smashing Pumpkins is every song and every album that i've listened to is so different from anything else, they are so unique in what they do I don't think there is a band of my generation today that can compete with what they have done for music in general. To me along with some of my favorite artists today Billy Corgan is one of the greatest songwriters ever, its great to be apart of such a legendary fanbase like what The Smashing Pumpkins have.
My best friend since 3rd grade died of an overdose 3 years ago. Today was his birthday. He was the one that introduced me to sp music when we were teen. Missing him extra
One of SP's greatest songs. Anyone notice how Chamberlain uses such a heavy Tom drum beat to rhythmically imitate the sound of a heart beating? All of his drumming in this song is astounding.
In 2000 I was 13. Just starting to really get in to music. My dad bought me 2 singles. This and r.e.m. the great beyond. Thank you Dad. You gave me your time, interest and encouragement. You stood by me until the end. Hope to see you again one day.
I love this song. The Smashing Pumpkins have such an incredible sound I feel lucky to have grown up listening to them. Hope songs like this one are never forgotten. Wish more songs like this one were written.
To me, this is the most visually stunning video they've ever done. It's really special when you can get imagery to intertwine so perfectly with the emotions and lyrics.
They are playing in Manchester soon, and I want to see them. I grew up listening to Smashing Pumpkins. I was 12 when I discovered them back in the 1996 and this is my favorite song. His voice is magic and unique.
There was a girl I secretly loved, long ago. Back when I listened to a lot of SP. This song was a sort of reminder of that. I decided to reach out again, many years later now. I saw a facebook group of a remembrance of her death. That hit like a truck. Who wouldn’t be the one to stand inside her love.
This album was one of those Marty McFly moments when it released. "I guess you guys aren't ready for this yet."
Hehe, great analogy! xD
I loved 'Machina' from the moment it was released, and still do.
I was a huge Pumpkins fan and I appreciate this album way more now than I did when I was 16

When i was young and heard this song for the first time, i was mesmerized. This is one of the most beautiful ways for describe love. It tells exactly what you feel when someone means everything. Billy Corgan it's a truly poet.
THIS WILL NEVER GET OLD
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
One of the best songs I've ever heard, full of emotion.
Hi I recommend an indie song called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
I must say that's some damn good drumming from Chamberlin!
That incredibly elegant e-bowing from James Iha
H K he’s an awesome guitarist for sure
Sounds more like Billy wrote that part
My favourite song of theirs by miles. It's stunning
me and you both
and me too
Yes
This is starting to become my favorite song of theirs. The more i listen to it the more I appreciate this masterpiece.
As usual....i forgot that they are my favourite band, until its sunny and I'm playing music outside while drinking lol. Still stand by my statement, best song they've ever written. Never heard a band with better choruses.
Music can save you from suicide. Thank you, Smashing Pumpkins.
Damn. This hit hard because I teared up when I read your comment. This band has saved more lives than they'll ever know.. ❤️
:')
so adoored he was...
Yes, it can, Thank you, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones.
Deftones? The song Risk comes to mind.
This song constricts around my heart. Like it literally causes heartache.
I feel the same. It's painful to not be with the one your heart yearns for.
M.B. So true. It wraps its wire around my heart & my mind...
This song, in my opinion, is THE standout on this record and one of their very best. Easily in my Top 5 Pumpkins songs. That's right, Top 5.
can't believe this still brought tears to my eyes in 2016 - great song and video
BrandonD timeless indeed it's definitely in my top 5 pumpkins song period
damn rite DAMN RITE see... see what I did there
2018 for me. On the eve of s12 of Trailer Park Boys I decided to get drunk in honour of Jim Lahey, that beautiful drunk bastard. Then drunkenness led me to this. My all-time favourite pumpkins tune 🤩
If only this song was come out today,
it would slay everything on the charts.
I doubt it. All but a small fanbase would know about it. provided that it would be made at all.
You will never know how much I adore this band
Yeah I will.
Rs ❤
This song is a masterpiece that speaks to my soul. ❤
For 20 years I've listened to this song, it's as beautiful now as it was all that time ago, just brilliant
It truly never gets old or tired. Timeless classic.
I still get the same chills, 22 years on! Masterful! 💜
The best Smashing Pumpkins' song of all time ! 🎸🎤🎧
I play this over and over. Epic song.
Now the big budgets are for cell phone & tech companies ads - Verizon, AT&T, Apple, Google, etc. lol - welcome to 2018!
Good to know dude, thanks so much
I wanted to use this song for my wedding that never happened. I sometimes listen to it but it always brings back a bit of an ache because of how devistalingly romantic it is to me. I cant get over the feelings I have when I see this music video and listen to this song, one day, I hope, I'll be able to use it.
I hope so too.
Bless you dude.. i am sure you will X
@@dchoney9435 thank you kindly ❤
@@matthewspooner8720 Thank you for your kind words. I kinda forgot I made this comment because a lot has happened since then. I still dont have anyone but sometimes it's good to be by yourself.
@juan rodrigues I will and I am thank you! I never want to experience the death of my heart.
Definitely one of the best songs ever
You know what's so cool about The Smashing Pumpkins is every song and every album that i've listened to is so different from anything else, they are so unique in what they do I don't think there is a band of my generation today that can compete with what they have done for music in general. To me along with some of my favorite artists today Billy Corgan is one of the greatest songwriters ever, its great to be apart of such a legendary fanbase like what The Smashing Pumpkins have.
all true indeed , blessed yr heart
My best friend since 3rd grade died of an overdose 3 years ago. Today was his birthday. He was the one that introduced me to sp music when we were teen. Missing him extra
that's brutal, so sorry for your loss. hope the music can provide a little comfort
One of SP's greatest songs. Anyone notice how Chamberlain uses such a heavy Tom drum beat to rhythmically imitate the sound of a heart beating? All of his drumming in this song is astounding.
I love this band and love this song...still brings me to tears. "who wouldn't be the one you love?"...every word is perfect.
One of their best songs ever
billy is a fucking genius
One of the pumpkins best albums hands down.
In 2000 I was 13. Just starting to really get in to music. My dad bought me 2 singles. This and r.e.m. the great beyond. Thank you Dad. You gave me your time, interest and encouragement. You stood by me until the end. Hope to see you again one day.
This brings me right back to being 15 and thinking this was the best song ever.
Billy's voice is haunting..he is one of a kind...
An amazing and uplifting song. Music can be so powerful, as this song is. Masterpiece.
It's a great love song on its own, but paired with this video, it feels like a modern Greek tragedy.
@@DaSpoonyBard Indeed it does.
Sharon Osbourne hated the video so much that she ended up quitting her manager position with the band
This video is Zero on steroids. I love it.
Done by my mate WIZ. Legendary director.
They are playing in Manchester soon, and I want to see them. I grew up listening to Smashing Pumpkins. I was 12 when I discovered them back in the 1996 and this is my favorite song. His voice is magic and unique.
This song the album and the album art is A masterpiece!
Oh man, that is so sad. Life is so unfair and cruel, hope you find someone just as deserving.
So so sad, i am very sorry..
very few bands can take me into THAT special state of mind that I would call SUBLIME. Thanks Smashing Pumpkins for this gift.
Playing this at my wedding this July. This and Mayonnaise. SP has been my favorite since the 90's. I'm 26 now. Forever and always
Quite a masterpiece, both the song and the video. They don't make such art pieces anymore, or at least not that often
