It can be a protective measure not only to them but also to your animals because they are dealing with a number of animals and they can act as carriers of such diseases. Anyway my advise is just general but I believe you know your context better.

cutting the absess with a cross makes sure than the wound doesn't close quicker resulting in a proper drainage, salt water is fine I personally prefer Chlorhexadine solution and clean it properly and use acriflavine because acriflavine causes a positive osmotic effect that drains all the bacteria out of the wound(hence the importance of a cross cut on the wound). then a course of antibiotic is important, so short acting oxytetracycline with a high dose of 1ml/5kg daily for three days per week and use potassium iodine(orally) or inject sodium iodine(subcut or intravenous(best option) (discuss dose with a VET) treatment should be for 3-4 weeks long. Reason you do this antibiotic course is because Corynebacterium abscesses(most common) can cause external and internal abscesses(e.g in the lungs). my 2cent
