The new biome & duplicant creation menu are AMAZING. Being able to roll for specific character archetypes like a Scientist or Digger has made this game SO much better. Now I don't have to spend most of my playtime looking for that perfect dupe/map gen combo.
Yeah, id defintilty made it faster for me to start a game, before that I was just rerolling every dupe around 50 times until I was satisfied and now it takes me maybe one minute and 10 rerolls at max.
@Brothgar i've always felt creating a vacuum around the main living quarters and the important stuff that needs stable temps is the trick to a successful Oasis map run. And in the old map system it also simplified heat managment alot.

You need to crack the frozen core at the bottom. I'd make a small insulated chamber, and then just dig a 2x2 channel straight down, avoiding the volcanic spots, to the ice core at the bottom. That way you crack the cold biome, and gain access to a massive water source you can turn into oxygen. The ice would also serve as a temporary solution to the temperature issue while you set up the arbor loop.
@Brothgar I just purchased ONI and your library of videos is the only thing keeping my dupes alive. It would be great to see a new beginners guide with all of the updates from launch. Thanks for your hard work!

Hey Brothgar, if you deconstruct a few tiles in your heat shield, you can create vacuums there and slow the spread even more. since you don't have top notch insulation, some heat would seep through anyways, so best to nip it in the bud and minimize contact between the shield and hot stuff.

I'm playing this map rn (cycle 300), and my approach was to let the heat go into the base while I was taking care of things like food (easy because of plants), oxygen (the hardest part since you don't have algae and not a ton of water), and research. And when I got far enough it was easy(ish) to just pump the heat out of the base by using radiant gas and water pipes. I believe it would be much easier for you cus you have frozen core (which is a giant cold biome). I wish you didn't have that lol (it would be interesting to see you struggle without any heat sinks at all lol). Your approach with the heat shield is great though! Nice job, keep it up!

Just a quick note: I think you only need the second digging skill to get through abyssalite, so you should be able to explore further with just the dupes you had midway through the video. If you want to dig through obsidian then that's when you need the third digging skill.

Been trying to get an Arbor Acorn in my Badland world through the printing pod for 350 cycles, so jealous you got one so early! I enjoyed ep 1! Looking forward to more.
Hey Brothgar, Compost Piles do not actually produce polluted oxygen unless they are untended. In fact, they offer the best way to deal with organic waste without creating more problems. I set them to priority 7 and as long as I have 1 less of them than outhouses there is never a problem with either as long as there is 1 outhouse per dup on that bathroom schedule.

One thing i'm thinking about.. You could probably generate water by imprisoning your dupes on mesh tiles instead of using toilets. That way, you would convert dirt into water, if you're running on cooked mealwood and if you clean that water. Another thing, if you have a really good amount of food, would be to use some high stressed vomiter dupes to convert that food quicker.. Awe man, first time checking out some Oni videos and you are by far my favourite. You got my sub mate! Can't wait to get to the rest of the videos for this series =). Keep doing what you're doing! Best of luck from CNDA.
first: awesome channel and i love to see you taking on the hardest map. have been looking forward for it since a few days. keep on with the high quality and entertaining content. second: a tip for you. your excessive use of the priority system can be avoided by setting the duplicant priorities better. thats how i do it: attacking, life support, toggling: highest priority for all dups tidying: high for all so everybody is helping, when you have to mop up some fluids with prio 7 or higher. and toilets are no problem anymore eighter decoration, cooking, farming, researching, ranching: FORBIDDEN for all exept specialists. for specialists turn it to high or highest, depending on if they are specialists for 2 things or not (e.g. my researcher is always running the hamster wheel too. so i put him on researching highest and operating high. so he will run the hamster wheel when there is no juice on the batteries, then he will research until batteries are empty and so on) building and digging: highest on special diggers, low on everybody else (everybody else is too slow for it, so they shouldnt do it anyways) operation, supplying, storing: normal for everybody except special delivering dups that a good solution for when you specialize most of your dups. they do what they should do and they do it fast with the fitting jobs. i never have to use priorities for normal things like dig and build jobs or delivering and cleaning toilets and wash basins. put prio 7 on things like toilets, wash basins and algea deoxydizers and you will not have to use the prio system that often anymore. safes lots of time and nerves.
Mhmm also an idea: As soon when you have !Steel! make your way to space and make a room with place for 4 or 8 Wood Burner Generators. I found out that they can mostly cool themself when they are at 125°C normally that shouldn't be possible. Against the Pressure place 2 Atmo Sensors and a SR Gate to open doors to space if the pressure gets too big. You would be able to cool the Generators with steam Turbines later on if it get fixed. It is maybe one of the efficient ways to generate power at a low cost of Heat, CO₂ and Wood. Pips are able to plant the Arbor Trees for the System. I also suggest for the Steam Generation to use Aluminium Metal Tiles but this is not really needed. Aluminiums Heat Transfer is better then Tungston. I found the last fact fascinating.
Started watching this when you where melting the "points of interest" items at the top waiting on the next thought you know I really should see how this crazy satellite area tube base came to be time for the long haul marathon.
Would a vacuum between two outer walls prevent heat transfer well enough in the beginning? Use normal walls for cheaper construction, only worrying about airlocks.
57:32 - It's not because you don't have anyone delivering (they can all deliver things regardless of skills or assignment), it's because you assigned all your dupes to _other_ things. A dupe assigned to one type of task will *ignore all other tasks* (even if they are priority 9) as long as there is at least _one_ task of the type he is assigned to (even if that task is priority 1). So, unless you want a dupe to focus *exclusively* on a specific type of task (ex., spend *all* his time ranching), only alter the priorities for *sporadic* jobs (i.e., toggling, doctoring, attacking). Leave everything else set to the base [-] priority, that way they will use the priorities you set in the game world.
Glad folks are still re-watching our Lads content Years after they went off to work.

I know, my ideas are radical, but i'm just trying to use every mechanic
you could put a barrack blueprint next to all your specific areas : a barrack for the rancher close to the ranches, a barrack for the scientist close to the ...
vacuum insulation works pretty well in early game as well
After dupes are done with bathtime, they’ll go straight to work even if it’s not work time yet!
1:02:40 "got it right" huh? where's your overflow? no, this job site ain't up to code. the inspector is gonna shut you down!
1:06:20 ok, you caught it & made mess
First time commenting on this video. Nice challenge of choosing the volcano asteroid! Keep up the good work and looking forward to see more good content.
I'm also playing Oasisse with volcanoes and magma channels. I'm also doing a flatulent challenge where I have to choose a flatulent dupe whenever they are offered, even the starting ones. It's really one crisis after another. I have a task list arranged after how quickly they will kill the base if not dealt with.
It's interesting to see what we're both doing and what we're doing differently.
... You're doing far better than me though
3 minutes in and im already loving it. More custom challenge maps!
Doing a great job mate. hope your business grows and grows
Keep up the good work.
Loving this new series!
I’m excited to see your tree farm Brothgar!
Awe man, first time checking out some Oni videos and you are by far my favourite. You got my sub mate! Can't wait to get to the rest of the videos for this series =). Keep doing what you're doing! Best of luck from CNDA.
first: awesome channel and i love to see you taking on the hardest map. have been looking forward for it since a few days. keep on with the high quality and entertaining content.
second: a tip for you. your excessive use of the priority system can be avoided by setting the duplicant priorities better. thats how i do it:
attacking, life support, toggling: highest priority for all dups
tidying: high for all so everybody is helping, when you have to mop up some fluids with prio 7 or higher. and toilets are no problem anymore eighter
decoration, cooking, farming, researching, ranching: FORBIDDEN for all exept specialists. for specialists turn it to high or highest, depending on if they are specialists for 2 things or not (e.g. my researcher is always running the hamster wheel too. so i put him on researching highest and operating high. so he will run the hamster wheel when there is no juice on the batteries, then he will research until batteries are empty and so on)
building and digging: highest on special diggers, low on everybody else (everybody else is too slow for it, so they shouldnt do it anyways)
operation, supplying, storing: normal for everybody except special delivering dups
that a good solution for when you specialize most of your dups. they do what they should do and they do it fast with the fitting jobs. i never have to use priorities for normal things like dig and build jobs or delivering and cleaning toilets and wash basins. put prio 7 on things like toilets, wash basins and algea deoxydizers and you will not have to use the prio system that often anymore. safes lots of time and nerves.
Brothgar, my dude. Over 100k views, you have grown so much. I am proud of you. Keep doing what you do.
Started watching this when you where melting the "points of interest" items at the top waiting on the next thought you know I really should see how this crazy satellite area tube base came to be time for the long haul marathon.
Hello! I'm one of the new subs. Just today. Your collection is huge and bountiful with knowledge!
Would a vacuum between two outer walls prevent heat transfer well enough in the beginning? Use normal walls for cheaper construction, only worrying about airlocks.
Vacuum is the best possible insulator.
I'm a new subscriber, picked up the channel when i impulse bought the game but was super lost. Ended up really enjoying the videos.
