My last passage was from American Samoa to San Francisco. A decent passage, 2/3 of it close hauled or close reaching. I can’t imagine doing a passage with the only head in the bow of the boat. Not a fan of pullman berths either, having to crawl over one another for any reason at any time of night. Well built, fast boat, but not on my radar as I’m searching for my next boat.
You have excellent taste As some others have mentioned - moving through the V Berth to use the only head is a bit unfortunate by a small price to pay. I also have had to sit on the head while underway in rough seas before, and uhhhhh thank god the head was more centered on that boat. I can’t imagine going up and down 8-12 feet while trying to throw the old black pickle lol 😂 Other than that I really like this boat too. It’s VERY quick underway too
@@RameyFamily As fate would have it--it looks like this very boat is back on the market again, though in need of a new engine. I'm assuming it sold, someone did a big refit, and the new engine was just too much to take on. I've inquired, as I'd totally be up for re-powering this boat.
@@RameyFamily the keel seems to be fine--there was issue with the iron ballast under the floorboards, but that was removed and replaced with lead. Seems like they did a less than great job with replacing the flooring, but the ballast doesn't seem to be an issue anymore. The iron ballast is a known issue on Passport 40s--it was just poured in as a slurry of iron disks and resin, and it wasn't properly glassed off, so water gets in and the upper areas can swell. They spent $8k having it removed and replaced with lead in 2019 (I have all the work receipts that total $162k in restoration).
That is an absolutely beautiful boat. I love the pullman birth and high quality construction. That’s a lifetime yacht. I’d consider a solent rig if you’re considering a change. Only negative in my opinion is the galley when trying cook offshore. Just install harness for bad weather and considering 95% of the time you’ll be at anchor, it’s perfect. If you don’t buy it, I will. 😜😜😂😂👍👍 Good luck!
Your right on all counts for sure. In March of next year I have a video of a walkthrough (and a few other things) of a next generation island packet 439 - and one of the things I fell in love with on the test sail was the Solent Rig option. Since the filming of this video my opinions have changed a bit from preferring a cutter rig over a sloop to preferring a solent rig over a cutter.
@@RameyFamily $250k??? Hahaha. If it sold for half that amount I'd be shocked. I'm sure the seller was trying to recoup the $160k he poured into the restoration, but it doesn't work that way, does it!
I had to get home and it took a few months for me to finally get to editing it. But the time I did, it was sold and unlisted and I no longer had the brochure the broker had given me. So I had to make do with what I had. Bummer I know

These are solid points. I wonder what your opinion of the next generation island packets are…? The new 439?
Pretty darn sure a Passport 40 will be my next boat. The variation with the v-berth sleeper and head with a separate shower is also nice.

@@KenWallaceFilms that’s crazy!
I thought the keel would be the big overhaul but it turns out it was the engine

The passport 40 will likely be my next boat just a super functional boat that performs well. And looks good too
That is my dream boat.

Beautiful boat!
It sure is!
Why no price? It’s not for sale?
Because it sold by the time I edited the video. It was listed for about $250k

What is the price and location?
It sold a while ago. Before I finished editing the video. Seattle Washington.
Nice boat. How you gonna poop pounding to weather?
In my damn Helly Henson bibs like a REAL man lol. I’m in talks with Island Packet for their next generation 439 at the moment
Why doesn’t it show the year, engine hours & PRICE

Great video. Cutting out the piano would not hurt.😮
Hahahaha noted
Video editing is a bit of a learning curve lol
