@@sl33py20 from what im seeing its because her girlfriend was too distanced and didnt really understand what she needed hence her breaking up for both of them to stop chasing a relationship they cant achieve
Someone getting the power to travel across dimensions after consuming too much media is a fun idea. That could happen in a comic and I wouldn't question it.
Maybe I might end up giving up on all of my projects because, at the rate that all of this media is going through, I might end up using overdone tropes for my animated series. I might even end up taking my own life away if I cannot make anything of substance that affects the trajectory of modern media, gets any attention, or ends up just not being worth making.
For many years, I’ve seen myself struggle, and almost detached myself from the “people” I used to be. Seeing my past self as different people. But I realized now that it’s always been me. That I am loveable. That I can love. Idk this means a lot to me. Maybe Ruby lets go of a romantic love, but she reconciles with her identity of being just someone out there, enough for herself. That’s what I got, idk man. This is beautiful.
This and its message is reminding me of the movie “Everything Everywhere All At Once”, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was what this short was inspired from.
YEEAAAAAAHHH WOOOO!!! Im so proud of you Cris from the moment you shared the script with me I knew it was gonna be a beautiful, meaningful film! Great job!!!!
I believe hakita said it best in "All Imperfect Love Song" "If nothing really matters, then you should do whatever you want to... You will heal. You are loved."
This film is one of my all time favorite explorations of visual/art direction. Your masterful mixture of detailed spaces that feel lived in, fuzzy texture, comic book iconography, mixed media, and your meta look at the process of making the short, not to mention the way you interweave it into Ruby's journey is wonderful. You and your team have made something beautiful here, and I'm happy I had the chance to see it. Thanks for sharing it with us! P.S. That physical comic book at the end? That was a great touch!
FIRST- -one to tell you how amazing this animation is. I love the whole creativity in the dimensions (loved the reference to the rock one especially), but I mostly enjoyed how integral they are to the character finding purpose in her own life. Also the comic art style was a nice touch in the visuals. Keep on creating.
This was brilliant to watch! The lesson that ultimately, you matter only to yourself is the message I think a lot of people should understand, no matter how insignificant we feel.
Very cool 👍. I can definitely see this as an episodic or serialised indie series where Ruby deals with everyday life through the lens of classic superhero comics. Excelsior!!!
The way I've always thought of it was that the meaningfulness of life comes not in anything material. None of us matter when you zoom out that hard. What matters is each individual life, each individual story. The self improvement we experience, how we help eachother... That's where it is, for me at least. Because even if we're small, and even if everything we do is inevitably drowned out, it still happened. And nobody can go back to the past, so it is permanent in that way. The stories of how we grow, the lines we trace through time... This is who we are.
Oh I really enjoyed this - its own artstyle is so pretty and has the fun detail of comic color grading, so many cool different art styles I just had to pause at the blink and you’ll miss it frames, and a sweet poignant little message about life! Really inspires me in making my own stuff!
This is absolutely amazing and you should be proud of it. I don't know much about animation but it looked so beautiful and lifelike and immersive while still being superhero-comic-book-like. Keep at it!!!! :D Also the moral here is something more people need to realize.
I really like this short, its very creative and I love how introspective the main character, Ruby, is. Definitely would like to see more of Inter-Dimensional Girl in the future. You did an excellent job, Cris!
Wow, this was GREAT! I was quite jumbled throughout the whole thing, but I think it has something ti do with findinf yourself and knowing your worth? I still don't understand what happened between her and Diana, but this little short was great! It reminds me of a show I love, Kid Cosmic, and Ruby is kind of reminiscent of Kid, drowning herself in comics to forget the pain of her existence.
Ruby ended her romantic relationship with Diana because of unspecified complications. At the beginning, Ruby's depressed, trying to gain the courage to look back on a fond possession associated with her ex: the comic. This spirals into her exploring different universes where they stayed together, and eventually ones revolving around her existence, but no matter how many she visits, she finds no ultimate meaning in them. Every alternate version of her who chose to ascend the mortal plane explain that accomplishments or other people shouldn't mainly give her value, instead, herself. When she returns to her world, she reads a different comic, implying that she's moved on with newfound self-worth. Hope this helped!
Ahhh, the exploration of different styles were so cool! The shots at the resolve (laundry/sidewalk) were probably my favorites, everything just felt so put together in the environment, the gritty color animation, style, etc. So awesome! 😽
"Our lives are different to anybody else's. That's the exciting thing! There's nobody in the universe can do what we're doing." the second doctor from doctor who. She might think cuz there is a million versions of her out there happy with their girlfriend, that she is nothing and wrong for not making it work. This doesn't lessen a person cuz she can do what none of the others can do, she walks in eternity and she can find love again because she is unique. There never will be another version like her because even if she thinks she is one of many, she's wrong, she made the choices that brought her to that point. She made them because she is not like the others and she is an amazing person and I hope she has many more adventures because of her choices.
I absolutely loved this, it made me happy to see Ruby realizing she matters for herself, and to live for her life rather than depending on someone else. This was beautiful, well done!
so so so SO amazing and creative, this genuinely blew me away!!!!! touching and bittersweet and fun and just wow!! love the inspirations from spiderverse, kid cosmic, and everything everywhere all at once, but this is definitely a very uniquely YOU film and very excited to see your future work!!!! so awesome
This is such and amazing work of love. The micro details of the actress in the real universe and earth-616 being very super-heroy, nods to Everything All At Once etc... and such such a focus on the human heart in the middle of a cosmic existencial crisis, not for the alusions of metafiction because of a broken heart... Wonderful story, beautifully animated and acted.
This one Is great. I love the art direction and the story. And the part with a rly fast montage of all the version of Interdimensional Girl was rly cool.
Absolutely incredible. So uniquely handled, and with so much personality and artistry Thematically, reminiscent a lot of the best works and features of a Bryan Lee O' Malley work
People like to say the universe is uncaring, but this is false, because you ARE the universe; a little branch on an ever-expanding tree that convinced itself it's something separate. Therefore if you care, then the universe cares.
What a beautiful film. The art style, the passion, the story. It’s all so goooood. It gives me late 90’s Adult Swim creator spotlight (if they had one, maybe they did idk lol) Bravo to everyone involved. I need more! Lol
Loved the mixed media, and the idea of someone peeping on alternate versions of themselves. Dont know if this is part 1 or its own contained story, but cant wait to see your future projects.
Wow, I'm thankful to have stumbles across this, this was incredible to watch, and is something that I could feel on a personal level. And so many of those scenes were so creative and AMAZING.❤ Thank you for this, hope more people see it.
the moment ruby realises that her being insignificant doesn’t matter because she matters to herself is a comfort to everyone who feels the same
what a helpful comment for first time watchers
why did they break up?

oh... the reveal that she was the one to break it off, but is still torn up. it's very sobering. this is so delightfully human.

Note the googlie-eyed rock in the dimension montage
what a fun sequence that inderdimensional travelling part was. The bit where she saw her own character reference sheet had me genuinely hurting.
There's a lot of talk about how trashy and disposable superhero media is compared to say, horror, but stuff like this is proof otherwise.
Shared this with my BFF who's going through a lot right now. I hope she finds comfort in it as much as it brought comfort to me.
YEEAAAAAAHHH WOOOO!!! Im so proud of you Cris from the moment you shared the script with me I knew it was gonna be a beautiful, meaningful film! Great job!!!!
THANK U LOCKE!!!!! Ur backgrounds were so awesome, thank u soo much
This is basically kid cosmic x Spiderverse. And I mean that in the best way possible.
That's what I was getting from when I first watched the video 😁👏👏👏
SCRUMPTIOUS ART STYLE
I believe hakita said it best in "All Imperfect Love Song"

This is grossly underrated. I hope you do actually make a few comic book issues about her small adventures

This is perhaps the most encouraging message in a purely materialist outlook.
