The algorithm is working, I've never seen an add for BattleTech 2018 until I hit play on this video.
Also, I had to laugh at Spoon's "nyah!" as he totally missed the melee attack.

34:07 My recommendation would be to rip that flamer off the vulcan and go for either small lasers or machineguns.

At some point I will absolutely get around to that, I'll put more emphasis on melee/support damage.

@@Chimpy13 Frankly the Vulcan is a decent mech for taking out convoys. At least as far as mediums go. When you get your hands on one, a quickdraw or even a grasshopper are a superior replacement though. The tactic is the same for all of those: Get close to the convoy and then stomp the vehicles one by one. the utility-weapons add a nice chunk of extra damage

@@Chimpy13 as your mechs get bigger these missions get a fair bit more tricky, because you need mechs that can A) catch the convoy - which assaults by and large cannot - and B) has enough firepower/melee damage to wipe out the vehicles that get progressively bigger and scarier.
For that reason I usually retain a melee-focused Grasshopper in my lineup.
That said, if you EVER encounter 60-ton vehicles do always sensor-lock them before engaging!
Reason being, there is a high probability that these are Inferno- LRM- or Blake forbid SRM carriers. And your really, REALLY do NOT want any of your mechs out in the open in front of even just one of these - let alone multiple.

There was a different mech game that came out a number of years ago. It required the player to be a pilot, and it was not turn based. Running around pivoting the upper half of the mech with the thrustmaster to fire, it was very stressful, but fun.

    • @Chimpy13
      @Chimpy13  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I wonder if that's a Mechwarrior game, sounds like it could one. Never tried it, it looks mad crazy and fun. I might pick it as I actually have a thrustmaster from doing a bit of flight simming in the past.

Hey man, really enjoying the series so far. In general, your instincts in this game are pretty good. May I offer some advice as someone who has dumped far too many hours into this game?
I recommend for the Vulcan you pull the Flamer and replace it with a Small Laser. Also for only 2 Machine guns you probably won't need more than 1 ton of ammo so the extra half ton is probably not necessary and can be removed. You should have 1 ton left over by this point and I recommend adding a heat sink to make it heat neutral.
I like your build for the Vindicator, though I'd argue that the Centurion doesn't have enough tonnage to be a good LRM boat. Just wait until you get a Catapult or something and make both your mediums into mid-range brawlers for now.
Also, for 1-2 skull missions, you're better off angling for salvage because you won't get much money anyways and sometimes you get lucky and low difficulty missions spawn better mechs that you can salvage.
Also, on an enemy mech, if you blow off both the Left and Right Torso, you'll deal 2 damage to pilot and then you can blow off one of the legs for 1 more damage on knockdown. In the early game, most enemy pilots will only have 3 health and so it will count the mech as being alive but the pilot dies which means you get 3 salvage. Use this to salvage heavy mechs early. When in doubt, just flank them to blow off their torsos, rendering them toothless, and save up inspiration to use called shots on the legs.
Hope this helps! Keep it up!

Hey, I always appreciate advice from a vet of the game I'm playing game. Cheapest education one can have is learning from other peoples mistakes.
That solid advice for the Vulcan, in the back of my mind I was thinking that Flamer seemed pointless and that I should put emphasis on melee range raw damage. I had no idea I really didn't need that much ammo for the MGs, so yeah I think I'll follow your advice pretty exact here.
Funny you say that about the Centurion. I end up changing it into a brawler instead after #5 of the playthrough. I certainly don't feel the same way with LRM boats now as I did back in 2018 when it first came out. Maybe I'm just enjoying different playstyles more.
Yeah I should really stick to more salvage to build a nice backlog of items too and yeah the stuff you can sell is sometimes worth more than the mission reward.
Ahh you know, I always had it in my head if I destroy both torso's in the same action, it just counts as one injury. Not sure why I thought that. I do want to try and utilise that and use those Vulcan machine guns to maybe get a lucky head shot. I realise the Vulcan is only really of any use in the early game.
Many thanks for your input, will start putting that to use in a few videos time (I tend to backlog)

@@Chimpy13 Flamers are amazing when you put them on a smaller mech and have 6 (or was it 8?) assigned to flamers only. They will pop the top off the highest tonnage mechs. Shut em down then pop the top- gotta love it! I don't think it was the Firestarter mech that had so many points assigned to flamers, but I may be wrong. There was another smaller mech that I dimly recall had a flat top. Perhaps HundredDaysMusic knows which mech it was.

@@Augustus087 Just looked up, apparently there are 2 mechs that have 6 support slots. One of the them is the firestarter, I think the other is the grasshopper. Just had a quick search. I do love the idea of going all flamers and abusing heavier mechs in Lunar, Martian or Desert Biomes.

I have played this game a lot as well and the Centurion makes a good early game missile boat if you strip all but two LRM 15s and use the rest of the weight for armor.
It limits your playstyle, but it is effective.

Sorry, I can't help but make some corrections: MG = machine gun, SLas = Small Laser, MLas = medium laser, LLAS = large laser, PPC = particle projection cannon, LRM = long-range missiles, and SRM = short-range missiles.

Dude. That LB-X 2 is one of the best guns in the game. (The only gun better is the LB-X 2++).
That weapon is light, accurate, and generates almost no heat when fired. And one can of ammo gets you 25 shots. No need for multiple tons of ammo.
    It melts turrets like butter.
It wrecks light mechs--especially Fleas and Locusts since it hits hard enough to sandblast light armour and has enough submunitions in each cluster to usually get a crit on the ammo those Mechs store in their CTs. Translation: frequent one-shot kills on many light Mech varriants.
In the early game, you fight a lot of light mechs. Swarms of Locusts.
And the gamer gods gave you this anti-light mech wonder weapon on day one.
    Upgrade your Centurion's AC/10 to the LB-X 2. Please!

Since I recorded this (just over a week ago), I have done a little more research into and will at some point give it a shot!
I can see why it would demolish light mechs, you're right there!
As for the Centurion, I eventually decide on a close range brawler type for it from around #5.
I will try out the LB-X 2 though, I was a bit quick to judge it!

@@Chimpy13 I recently replayed the campaign over Christmas and was lucky enough to find a pair of LB-X 2s in a shop. I replaced the AC/2s on my staring Blackjack with the LB-X 2s. They have the same range and accuracy as the AC/2, weigh 1 ton less per gun, and hit for a total of 48 damage per salvo (close to double the damage) I used that 45-ton Blackjack right up until the middle of the campaign-when I finally replaced it with a 90-ton Highlander.
I’m currently replaying career mode and just got a 100-ton Atlas. Fist thing I did was rip out that crap AC/20 and replaced it with two ballistic weapons, an Ultra AC/5 (UAC/5) and the LB-X 2++.
So even with late game builds on assault Mechs, the LB-X 2 finds a place.

@@wfdmount Nice, you know I think my original dismissal of the LB-X 2 was I mis-read the damage output, I thought it was much less. I'll definitely find a way to integrate at some point, whether it's early or even later on the playthrough, I'll give it thorough testing.

@@Chimpy13 The Heavy Metal DLC added quite a few new weapons to the game, and the 1.9 patch added vehicles that use a lot of those weapons. So you’ll get to be on the receiving end of them.
COIL weapons also appear in the Heavy Metal DLC, and those are unique to this video game. No COIL weapons in table top.
COIL weapons multiple the damage output by the evasion you build up before firing it. So on lights and medium Mechs that are fast, COIL weapons can unleash ridiculous amounts of damage. On lumbering Heavies and Assaults, not so much.
If you want to test or play with the COIL weapons, try and do that in the early game-when you are still using a lot of lights and medium.
COIL weapons are incredibly powerful in the early game and very underwhelming by the mid or late game.
Whenever I get a COIL weapon in the Day 1 Heavy Metal crate, I’ll make good use of it in a play through. And if I don’t get one early, I’ll never use COIL weapons.
I just mentioned that because RNG can plays a huge part in your impression of COIL weapons.
