I met him at a comedy club in Hollywood, California in the early 80's a, after he finished his routine, I asked him for his autograph and he was gracious enough to give me it, I remember his voice being very normal but that was so long ago, r.i.p. Gilbert Gottfried, you are a comic legend.❤❤

Comedy is a coping mechanism. It’s not a sign of insensitivity, but a sign of sensitivity. Yes, something bad has happened, we’ve lost people we love, but they wouldn’t want us to fall so far into darkness that we cannot see the light of their love. Comedy and comedians set us free from our depression and our grief. No comedian should ever have to apologize for their gift and their talent to bring back the light.
I’ll never forget the Empire State Building joke. I’m sorry, but I started laughing when he said it. I was sad,but I had to laugh. It was a type of therapy.

I feel like even though we’ve heard his real voice on SNL when he was young, he’s been doing that voice for so long that it’s started to become how he actually talks
I think it's him staying in character, but less exaggerated.
There was a time when he called Gary at The Howard Stern Show because he was sick in the hospital with appendicitis or something. He thought he was going die and left a voicemail using his real voice -- it blew everyone on the show away... so they actually played it on the show. That was the first time I heard it, and it's even more tame than this.

It might be offensive to some, but it’s the only way some people know how to cope. Just want to point out how many comedians are depressed. They rely on humor to deal with sadness.
Gilbert could make it all funny. Some of the part he hid was in the documentary.
This is his less-annoying version of his fake voice.
And it’s still quite annoying.
Gilbert's Voice isn't Annoying at All!
No, it's his actual voice. They did a sketch on the Howard Stern show showing his "real" voice, but that was a bit. This is just him. When he does cartoons he yells. In neither of these scenarios is he using a fake voice.
@@filmgeekstudios4393 I'm still not too sure, I believe this is a less exaggerated fake voice. Look up the Pillow Pets SNL skit and a few others he did back in the day and some of his old stand up.

I know of Gilbert because he voiced jafar's parakeet. Gilbert gottfried is the voice of comedy for generations, 1st video I've seen of Gilbert had me laughing. His jokes will live on, R.I.P Gilbert

The comedic mind is a sarcastic approach to pain whether its emotional or any other kind of pain. The idea to try to get a healing inner response of laughter. Pain is dulled by laughter.
I'd have to be truthful that i was not a fan of Gilbert, but this was a really good interview. He was spot on reguarding how comedy and tragedy closely intersect.

16:10 While at a funeral for my best friend's mother (who was also like a mother to me), I was enslisted at the last minute as a pall bearer. About 30 seconds after we all grabbed a handle on either side of the casket, someone muttered, "Okay, who's not lifting?"
A minute later, we were cracking wise about how the hearse was parked so far from the door.
We needed that.

Except this is isn't his real voice, not yet. There's a phone message Howard Stern played with Gilbert's "real" voice. Its exceptionally monotone and morose-sounding.

His voice on early Letterman, you can see the development.
His range of voices in different impressions was wide. There's one of him doing Emo Philips on Alan Havey show, that I just saw.
Him doing Jay Leno as Godzilla can be found on a clip of Jay teaching Gilbert how to drive a Ferrari. On his podcast, Gilbert mentioned how it was Jay making fun of him.

What a wonderfully funny man.
Following tragedy with comedy is healthy coping with something that is terrifying, and horrible for people to endure. And the use of the joke permits people to bring up the happening, in a safe manner, that all present can relate.
Some may think his (and others who do similar) 9-11 joke was in poor taste, crass or inconsiderate, do not realize, like a surgeon who exposes and removes a cancer or deep infection, is a necessary healing action, and he was bold and courageous to step out in front of the fear of not saying it.
The proof is the reaction to "The Aristocrats" joke.
33 seconds he says it would always be there and you do hear his real voice. It's probably actually harder to do and maintain this voice as it's much more subtle.

That's not his real voice. This is his less annoying comedy voice because he doesn't want people to hear his real voice. If you want to hear his real one look up "Pillow Pets - Saturday Night Live" on TH-cam. He sounds utterly different

I was in high school when it happened right across the river in Union City New Jersey I saw the second plane hit it was unbelievable it's true what he is saying we thought of the World Trade Center as something that was indestructible

This is actually not his real voice. A voicemail of his real voice can be heard in a Howard Stern clip. He may not know how to do his real voice anymore, accents can change, him doing a fake, over the top, exaggerated New York accent voice has pretty much made it his normal voice now since he was always in character once his character was established in the public eye. But tbh, I can never take this guy seriously when he can't ever be anything other than a fictional character that he created. Actors pretend to be characters, this is an example of a fake guy, who created a character and just never stopped.
That was a bit that Howard and Gilbert did.
