I was a HUGE fan of her in that movie Cube and also in Deadzone. Cube was such a cutting edge scifi movie that I would still put in my top ten. From what I remember they filmed it on a shoestring budget and all of it filmed in one room where they just changed the lighting to represent the blue room or the red room and then all the terrifying traps made it look like a series of rooms. Such a creative story, highly recommend for anyone into scifi who hasn't seen it. Scifi buffs already knew her prior to DS9, at least I did, from that movie Cube. It holds up too.

What a tough job she had for DS9 coming after such a core character's death. I stopped watching DS9 after Dax's death due to college life and women and it wasn't until DS9 was on H&I that I watched her seasons. She did an amazing job and I think it is a shame that she could not have been her own character without the Dax label. There should have been another character that was Dax and was a guest star during the war. Wonderful interview and amazing job as always.
Wow! Absolutely wonderful! I just discovered the show today. As a life long Trek fan since the 80's, it's such a treat to see Dominic and Connor again. Believe it or not, that was a thing when I was in high school in the 80s in upstate New York. Another great episode, I love Ezri's character in Deep Space Nine and her relationship with Sisko, from Dax mentor, to relative equals with Jadzia to Sisko adopting a more mentoring role, it plays out really well. I also agree with Nicole that I don't see Ezri as just replacing Jadzia, maybe it's because I'm a huge fan of doctor who but I see Trill very similar to the time lords so while its still Dax at a base level, with their memories everything else can be different and the show makes sure to emphasis those differences althroughout the season, from her relationships being different, her views on klingon culture being different and the big one with her not having the confidence of Jadzia nor the sense of her own Identity at the beginning. I have no idea on your plans for future guests but with all the mentioning of Voyager I hope you can get a Voyager cast member on as a guest and I'd be ecstatic if that could be Tim Russ
She is one of my favorite characters and I think think underrated and I love her even more because she is a few huge Trekker/Trekkie..I hope to see more..maybe get the other Dax Terry I hope. THANK you for sharing all this freely and generously.
Nicola and I met at a singing - I had a friend who used to run a sci-fi shop called the tenth planet, in Barking, UK. I was asked to take some crowd photos for the website and I only got to wave from across the room - shame we didn't get to talk "Dude, where's my baby"
When Conner said he and Nicole went to a German night club and they played a rude prank on them then wanted Conner and Nicole to come back when the night club people when they found out you two were popular star trek actors and Conner says they can kiss my ass was priceless.
I would love to see a follow up to DS9 just to see all the cast back together. Loved Ezri and wished I could have seen more of her. Also thought Nicole had great chemistry with Siddig and would love to see if the characters would still be together after so much time.
Remember how annoyed I was when they killed off Jadzia, but they did such a good job when casting Nicole as Ezri. Just has a delightfully weird positive energy about her, makes it damn near impossible not to like her 😄
I just found you guys this week when (randomly) you showed up in my feed. I think it was because of your interview with Cirroc and I'm subscribed to the 7th Rule. Been binge watching your earlier episodes. Truthfully, I wasn't as into Star Trek: Enterprise as I was into DS9 back in the day, but I do remember you guys. But this Shuttlepod Show is absolutely brilliant! Thank you for what you are doing. New subscriber and looking forward to future episodes! 😃
I had to watch the season a few times to fine a way to appreciate the character of Ezri. The more I watched it the more it made sense that her character was like the entry level Jadzia Dax. Ezri knew herself but quickly discovered she just didn't fit. The acceptance of the crew and even fans to some extent, was uncomfortable and felt forced. Then I began to realize that was exactly the situation Ezri was placed into. On to a station, pressed into a war, surrounded by weary travelers who had seen too many friends and loved ones die. Watching the episodes where Ezri explored her trill's past lives, was not only to get a glimpse into the other hosts, but what I saw as Ezri trying to find her place in herself. I would have liked to have seen where the character went beyond Deep Space 9.
3 of my favorite star trek actors. I would pay $20 for every DS9 and Enterprise episode today. An 8 season DS9 to let the whole story end slowly and 2-3-4 Seasons Enterprise. I didn't know Nicole des Boer was in the 1997 movie Cube 1.
I enjoyed Dom telling SGA actors Nicole and Connor the lost city of Atlantis is probably in the Bahamas - they're looking at each other like "Sooo... which one of us is gonna tell him it's actually in the Pegasus galaxy?" 😅
It's true that Jadzia had a certain energy that was instrumental in making the first seasons more enjoyable but as a character I liked Ezri more and I'm sure had she had more time there would had come many great moments from her.
18:04 : Dominic : "I think there's a lot to be said for 'I know what I'm reading, I'm seeing the pictures.'" One of the most important things about playing a part well, in my opinion, is the comfort of the actor. When an actor doesn't remember their lines, when they're insecure about what to say next, it shows, it breaks up the flow of the scene. If an actor is unsure about their characterization it's going to show on stage. When I hear about method acting, the extreme stuff, the stuff that verges on being harmful to yourself or a fellow actor, I really have to question whether theater was the right vocation for that person. If you have to inhabit the mind of your character 24/7 for three weeks in order that you might be comfortable enough to give a performance, maybe performing isn't something you're suited for. I sometimes think of the really extreme examples of method acting as being like that artist who just can't get the right shade of blood red color from a tube of paint so they decide to use their own. (Blood, not paint.) But also fair dues, method acting *does* give people a method by which to act, insofar as acting is a skill, and skills can be learned and acquired, there's a place for method and theory. Stansislavski and Meisner and Hagen, all of which I'm sure I misspelled, have a lot to offer to a person! If you're acting like you're looking for a watch then hearing the line "Don't act like you're looking for a watch, just look for a watch" can offer a profound new way to address a character and a scene. In some senses method acting probably let some people become actors who never could have done it without the method. No disrespect intended to method actors, by the way, many of whom are much more employed than I am.
It was lovely getting to know more about Nicole de Boer, but oh man, speaking as a history nerd, the shout out to Ancient Apocalypses was distressing. I recommend watching an actual historian debunk the many layers of lies the show was built on. I recommend Step Back's video, but there are more out there.

Great episode
Would love to see her come back as Captain Ezri Dax of the USS Aventine like in the books.
She was really good in Dead Zone (excellent show, I recently rewatched).
HAHAHAHAHA. Awesome.
(Blood, not paint.)
But also fair dues, method acting *does* give people a method by which to act, insofar as acting is a skill, and skills can be learned and acquired, there's a place for method and theory.
I have the ENG theme song memorized for when I'm trying out pianos. Now I'll have to find Nicole's ENG episodes.
Funny. I was born at the same hospital as Nicole!
Nicole de Boer ❤️❤️❤️ i love you guys!! :) Great show!
Thank you!
Erica is a great host and is giving off strong Terry Rialto vibes.
It sucked that we only got her for one season she was amazing I was mad at first about loosing jadiza but I quickly fell in love with ezri she was awesome really enjoyed her
Thanks!
It is a ahame that "Lennie" Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, and (fellow Canadian) "Jimmy" Doohan are no longer alive, to be able to be interviewed on this forum. Keep up the fine work.
Sorry guys. I'm catching up on some of the shows. Nicole DE Boer sounds like such a good person. As always love you guys. Erica takes my heart!
We need to catch back up with Bashir and Ezri at some point
I'm a big fan of her.
keep em coming
Really wish Cube would have come up. She was great in that, its a great movie. Highly recommend giving it a watch.
We think cube is discussed in the longer Patreon version.
Man, I had such a crush on Ezri when she arrived on DS9.
She looks awesome ❤..
I totally loved this interview with Nicole De Boer and I have a question is she interested in getting in on one of the new Star Trek's like Strange New worlds or Discovery or Prodigy or Lower Decks 🤔 because we would love to see her again ❤️
Nicole also had a small role in an episode of Stargate Atlantis.
I had no clue she was from Scarborough. It's crazy how close her childhood parallels mine.
I was at that con in Manchester
Baristas everywhere have taken umbrage to Connor's slander! Expect to be hearing from their lawyers soon!
😂
