Damn, the lyrics hit you different when you listen to them in your mid-30's than when you listened to them in your teenage years.... Beautiful cover, Mike. Thank you.
Sometimes I get so sad remembering all the fun youthful days, and how they are gone. I'm 37 now, married, but no friends. All the original friends did what we all do, start our own family and move to follow our career path. As I write this, I can feel the sadness in my stomach, it's hard to explain. Anyways, I hope all you guys are doing ok out there.
But just remember guys. We are men and we rise above this and show strength for those of our loved ones who feel unsafe in these times. We are the rocks needed in these most precious moments. Your race, religion, creed nothing matters. We bleed and breathe the same. We got this guys. It’s in these times we will bond stronger than ever.
Summer of 99: Hearing this song the first time: easy life, school is cool, playstation is "the hot s***", skateboarding hype in germany ! first love and so on... Winter 2021: Dad passed away two years ago, still feels like yesterday. Adulthood is stressfull and hard, things won't happend as planned, depression and anxiety. Evertime i watch this i cry a lot. Sounds weird but thank you for this version of one of my alltime favorites. Like @ragingflip said: "Damn, the lyrics hit you different when you listen to them in your mid-30's than when you listened to them in your teenage years.... Beautiful cover, Mike. Thank you."
..I can't even remember how i found the song, but seeing "Superman" being turned into a ballad version by Mike is something i cannot just ignore, These bands MXPX, Goldfinger, Rancid, Suicide Machines, the Offspring, the Ataris, NOFX etc.. were the soundtrack of my college days, i still remember when we tried to play Girls Schmirls Foundation and Goldfinger's My Head even though we don't know how to properly play our instruments.. ..I miss those days, or better yet those days have never gone by...they just linger. ..Got to tell my old bud who's a crazy MXPX fan as well to watch this video..once he's done doing the laundry and household chores.. ..Good job Mike! and everyone stay safe from the world touring virus.
I feel you. I'm a guy who prefers the blues, but when I was in high school, I listened to punk rock from california ... bad religion, nofx, pennywise, descendents, rancid, lagwagon. I remember that it irritated me when the enema of state popularized a more pop punk genre and I argued that older bands were better than the arrival of blink, the new glory found ... Today, when I see today's kids, I realize that even theenema of state, take off your pants and jacket, it is much superior to the current bands. I miss the 90s, good times, I learned to play guitar by playing these bands I still hear these bands just as a reminder of the past.
"Looking older all the time, feeling younger in my mind." My mind still thinks I'm 18, but too often the body says...Nope! Great cover. Thanks for sharing Mike.
Unbelievable man! Only Mike Herrera could take one of my favorite Ska songs as a kid and transform it into a nostalgic piece of poetry perfectly articulating the process of aging now as an adult.
Love this version - as a middle aged dude in my 40s dealing with a broken arm who can't play the sports I love, waking up with a stiff back, realizing that some of the things I wanted to do are things I'll never do but still realizing I have decades ahead of me with my wife and children and siblings and friends, well, this version speaks to me.
Like others have stated, this song hits so much harder as you age. As a father of 3, I relate to this so much more now than I did when I first fell in love with it. This version . . . This version . . . Captures how it really feels to try and be the everything your family deserves. Thank you.
Just watched the Tony Hawk Pro Skater documentary on Amazon and that brought me here...with teary eyes I listen to this song just smiling and remembering playing this game with my uncles and sister...a much simpler time when our family was all together.
Hearing this song, in this form, so many years later... It feels like seeing an old childhood friend, decades later, and things feel like home, but everything has changed. You realize how old you both are now.
Everything about this video brings back so many cool memories! The song, lyrics, footage... good old teenage years. Thanks for the nostalgic trip, Mike!
Last few months. N95 all day many days of the month. Hospital / one of those running services. Kids at home. Been singing this song since college. My little ones sing it. It's one of my humble little anthems the last few months. This version actually. These quarantine concerts and songs have been my soundtrack for MONTHS now and on repeat on my own acoustic guitar. So great, so calming, so beautiful, and some songs such an escape and awesome. Absolutely awesome. I literally can never thank you enough for all this. MxPx and Mike H for life. My little girl asks all her friends if they know Mike Herrera. Little rocker spreading the word.
Mike, simply perfect. Thanks for take me back in time and sharing good memories thru this version of the song. I'm 48 and I still sing this song like when I was in my 20's! I'm a big fan of you and MXPX too. Blessings! Greetings from PR.🇵🇷🙏🏻🤟🏻
Mike, thank you and MxPx so much for the music. I discovered you guys in 2009, when I was 8 years old. My family and I were living in a TV repair shop owned by my family, and i found the Let It Happen dvd. I listened to mxpx probably every single day that summer lol. I'm 19 now, and have so many memories with your music.
The amount of nostalgia that this incredible version of ''Superman'' brings up is unreal. No matter when and where I listen to this song, I get instant goosebumps towards the end of the song. Being a new dad, at 40, I only truly realize now what those lyrics really mean.
This song juat hits different now man its a memory you didnt even think you had until you hear it now as an adult instead of the kid that you were. I legit went back to those weekends with friends playing videogames and have no cares at all. This version is awesome thx!
Makes me miss my younger year's so much... 💚 My Bremerton Boy's! Can't believe how many year's have passed and how time's have changed. Thanks for the memories and 3 min of a non stop smile!😄😻💯
Wow.... that was beautiful! I never realized how well this song lends itself to being played acoustic. And 20 years later, these lyrics still resonate with me. Thanks for sharing!
I'll be 33 in December. Grew up skating. Still skate once in a while. Found this song through THPS. I liked it before but I love it now that I'm old enough to really connect to it. Thank you for the upload.

About 20 years ago I was playing my PSOne as a teenager. Now here I am in tears remembering those fucking good times. The difference is in the way this song hits me nowadays. I'm crying, is that normal?
Remembering being a kid & collecting money with friends to buy a pizza and get the demo of THPS.. listening to this 20+ years later really hits me hard.

Absolutely
ragingfiip dude - I felt the exact same
You Sir are not wrong.
Its true
When I was younger I only enjoy the music. But now I'm 34 and I feel the lyrics.
I didn't realise how sad this song was...
I am a dad who is struggling to make ends meet in these strange times. This song means a lot to me right now... Thanks Mike!

Yes! Heard this on the radio standing in the post office and I instantly thought of Tony Hawk!
This song helped me get through the pandemic. Thank you Mike and Goldfinger.....and Tony Hawk
"Looking older all the time, feeling younger in my mind." My mind still thinks I'm 18, but too often the body says...Nope! Great cover. Thanks for sharing Mike.
I didn't know how much I needed this, until I heard it. Thank you for making me 13 again- even if it was only for 3 min.
John Crosthwaite I really felt that.
This song hits differently in my mid 30s. So glad you got together with John to bless us with this right now. You’ve always been a class act, Mike.

God bless you and yours, Mike. It's been a pleasure growing "old" with you.
