    Great video brother!Worked like a charm. Now I am able to try out different versions of MacOS, without committing to the change on my main drive, and the need to use time machine to roll it back if I don’t like it.
    The original purpose for doing this is to use TurboTax 2022 that will not install on Catalina, but will run on Big Sur or higher. I have yet to install TurboTax 22 on the external flash drive on which I have installed Big Sur, but I don’t imagine it’s going to be a problem. Again, thank you, as this really helped!

    this worked with external SSD but i have a question. if I did NOT see internal disk in disk utility or even terminal.
    does that mean I could only use my mac when its plugged into my external SSD? what would happen if I unplug the EXTERNAL SSD?

      It’s just everything save in external if ur internal doesn’t work the computer it’s not gonna work cuz u don’t have the installer and the data the computer needs and if u install ur external everything comes to normality

    I have a new Mac Studio (2202) M1 Max 32GB, macOS Monterey 12.6.1. Purchased I have a SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD/formatted to APFS. I installed MacOS Monterey 12.6.1 on the SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD, using my Macbook Air. When I try to boot off the Sandisk drive via my Mac Studio, I am not able or allowed to do so. When I attempt to use Startup Disk in System Preferences, I am able to select the SanDisk drive, "HOWEVER", when I press restart, I get this message..."Unable to set startup disk
    An error occurred while setting “Untitled” as the startup disk: The operation couldn’t be completed. (SDErrorDomain error 108.)"
    When I turn on my Mac Studio, while holding the power button for 30sec, I see both the Mac internal drive, and my external Sandisk drive, but I am NOT able to boot from it. Selecting the options logo puts me in recovery mode. I have already selected the Utilities Drop Down menu and selected "Startup Security Utility'', I have "Reduced Security" Checked off, "Allows any version of signed operating system software ever trusted by Apple to run"
    Can you tell me how to set my Mac Studio to boot off of the SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD without all these roadblocks....

    Hello, I have a Macbook Pro 2019 with 250 GB internal, but I can't even install the software I need, I work on something that requires more. I would like to use my external solid drive as primary and I'm confirming whether to select AFPS or Extended Journaled. It would be to install OS X on that 1 TB SSD external device and also use it, not only to create the installation image. Do you know if I select Mac OS X Extended (journaled) again in that case?

    hello i have a question, since i downloaded the macos on an external hard drive and i'll be using it as my main drive, can i unplug the external hard drive?

    • @iMAT
      @iMAT  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really didn't understand your question.
      You are saying:
      1- You have installed macOS on external drive. And you will be using it as your main OS.
      2- Can you eject the external drive every now and then if you're not using it?
      If yes, then yes you can do it. You will have to access the internal drive by pressing the options key while powering on your MacBook if you have setup your external drive as the startup drive in system preferences!
      Hope it helps. if you wanted to ask something else, then please lmk!
