Another nice looking fly. Looks like it's easy enough to tie for me to get a few together for when I 'donate' a fly or two to the brush on my back cast. Ought to be a good one for my largemouth chasing habit. Does the long tail have a tendency to foul like other longer flies? I've not tied anything with a long tail of herl like that. Very interesting.
Jim, Thank you very much my friend! Great idea on the use of the Ostrich herl as an alternatiive to the marabou.for the tail. I really like the simplicity of the fly and you can tell it will be effective. I will be tying a number of these for my trip to Davis lake around the first of October.
I was going to say it looks like a wooly bugger on steroids! With a marabou or shorter tail it is definately just another wooly bugger. Thanks for the tie though it has sparked my imagination. I may just have to tie some flies tonight. All the best, Sean
Hey Jim, this is a kind of off the subject comment but do you have any new colors of the cactus chenille? I really love it for some of my patterns. I like to follow a pattern but sometimes I just free tie and decide as I am going what to put on the hook. I have come up with some very different looking flies and they have had a decent record of catching fish. The most effective ones I have usually used some of the cactus chenille on. All the best, Sean
Hi Dave, I have a video in my playlist "materials" it is Selecting Quality Hackle. Give it a look and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer. Jim

As long as you don't cast up current it should be good to go. You can always put a foul guard on the bend.
I am going to tie this fly in white for a attractor fly above a lure or grub. Great Idea
Thank you...I'm headed to Lake Davis soon and was told this is the go to fly.
that insaaane
I hope that means good.
It's like Murray's hellgrammite without the rubber legs.
You'll have to go to the web site and see what is there. I don't know if you got all the colors or not. But I still have plenty.

Hi Steve,
With a shorter tail I would have to call it a woollybugger.
