What a great trip! Really brings back the memories man! I remember riding a old 500cc triumph across country in ‘67 with this girl named Lucy I met at a gas station in Raleigh, she just couldn’t keep her clothes on, she would drop acid all day long and hung onto me from the back of the bike yelling how she loved being naked and had never felt freer than on the back of that bike stark naked! What a loon she was, that was a summer to remember! Thanks for the walk down memory lane maybe I’ll see if I can find Lucy’s number in my Rolodex....
Do you remember the film "Cycles South" ? Sounds like you were in it living the dream If you haven't seen it or want to see it again you'll find it on TH-cam
I'll try to get to all that blog...but let me sat this is awesome! AND if you do decide to publish a biik, the route, notes, etc... im sure a lot of people would buy whatever like i would. 10 years ago i didn't buy an SR400 because i listened to people say it was too expensive, silly, outdated and undersized... truth is, its all those things and every time i look there isn't one for sale within aboyt 1000 miles from me. I've always had a Harley... but i still want the SR400- and i want to take it across country too... a nice slow, unhurried, back roads trip, camping off the bike. Thanks for the video!

This is more of a slide show. Like showing friends pics of your trip. And that has been a classic lampoon. We want to here details. What was your cruising speed? Hoe was the little bike with that weight? Come on brother give drtails.
Hello, I saw the report of your trip with great attention. I really want to use my sr400 motorcycle as you did. I intend to modify the handlebars of the motorcycle (and install the same as yours). I would like to know if it was necessary for you to change the cables for this. have you made another trip since your trip through the USA? Looking forward to reading you, thank you very much in advance. Bernard
In 2005 i bought a 1995 500SR, the bike of my dreams when i was a teenager. Then i learned that the original was 2J4 and mine was T48 (here in France maybe not elsewhere) with a smaller carb and only 27hp instead of the mighty 33 in 1978!! So in 2009 i foud one, dark greeen,Wiseco piston , disc brake , sweet sounding exhaust and it was …great! Then i remembered my early bike years with my pals, all of us on Yamaha 125 DTMX, doing wheelies at night in front of the Police Station . True rebels🤣. And i thought "Why not combine the best of both?" . And i managed to find a 1977 500XT at a decent price . i don't know how it is in the US but here it's almost impossible to buy one in a good shape for less than 4000€. And a 1976 rebuilt worth (in the seller's mind) 10000€.. It has become pure speculation with that Vintage revival wave. Anyway, i am now riding my bikes (i sold the first SR last year) with a smile . And when i don't ride them, i just watch them. They're beautiful. I also have a 2015 Ducati Scrambler Classic. Light, good torque and so good looking! Same spirit than the SR with 21st century brakes and lights to take my sweetheart on a trip.. Cheers mate!
I'm trying to decide what M C would be good for my trip and the sr400 is top of the list. Do you think bags would have been better? Did the gas can get tossed later?
That was a awesome adventure on a sweet ride, dug the tunes as well ! The Toy 4x4 is super clean, is that a project ? It will go good with the XT ! Peace Man !!
So was the 1982 Toyota pickup a planned purchase or did you just happen upon it and couldn't resist? Awesome video!! Who knew you could make such a great video with no actual video at all.
Hello, thank you for sharing your experience :-) can you explain why did you choose the yamaha SR400 for your trip ? what are the qualities of this bike ? thank by advance for your answer 🙂
This SR 400 is very pretty ! Is the bike modified ? Wheel ? Handlebars ? They seem to be quite different in France. I might buy one in the next months. Thanks !
@@XT500Adventures This is my second 78 2J2 I had one exactly the same back in the early to mid 80's that one had about 10,000 kilometres on the clock when I got it and I sold it with about 60,000 on it's odometer, got this one nearly seven and a half years ago with 62,000 on the odometer and I've done about 82,000 kilometres since then, it's now up to [1]44,000 kilometres I usually near live on it but I pulled it's motor out a couple of months ago to check it out I'm getting it rebored new valves timing chain and timing chain sprockets and a few other things, but it was still going like a rocket the night before I pulled it apart

Thanks for sharing, man!
I started crying just opening the video
That's enough internet for you...
why did you start crying??
Here in India I got 2 Yamahas so far. Rode them half of the country. Still in crisp condition
Great trip and I know im late to the party but where did you get the maps for all the awsome back roads you rode?
Very cool trip! I just restored a 1980 SR500 and it hurts my ass just imagining riding X-country on that thing! Either way, Praise Yamaha!!!
Looks like a fantastic road trip! I’d love to find an sr400, they’re keepers.
I bought a brand-new Yamaha SR500 in 1978 kick start included...I still have the owners manual.
