I don’t mean to be a naysayer, but that’s super dangerous taking those recreational kayaks anywhere out on the Sound. Sea kayaks are more stable (although they ironically may feel less so), and most important, they have water-tight fore and aft compartments, so if they capsize, they will lie flat on the water and you can recover them. Your kayaks will just bob half sunk in the water. You should also wear a wet suit always in the Sound (if not a dry suit). If you tip in those kayaks out in the middle of the Sound, you will be stuck in the water and you could die from exposure before anyone gets to you. The radio will definitely help, but you absolutely cannot afford to have an accident with those.
