Classic, 9/10 for me. I like previous years Endless Pain a touch more, PtK is awesome but sounds they play a bit fast for their own good in places,if you know what I mean.
Kreator and Sodom are both from the same region in Germany (the "Ruhrgebiet" in the most west German state of Nordrhein Westfalen). There was a real scene here with a few other speed and thrash bands.
Seen them live a few times. Last time was last year when they opened for Mercyful Fate. They are always great live. When they bust this one out they get the crowed hyped by screaming "ARE YOU READY TO KILL EACH OTHER?!" Followed by Millie saying over and over "PLEASURE TO..." and the crowd screaming "KILL!!!" Until finally those drums kick in and everyone loses their minds. So much fun!

This album was heavily inspired by Possessed - "Seven Churches" which is considered to be the first death metal album in case you didnt know. Kreator did change their styles of music ALOT throughout their career so you can't really put their albums in one bag. Sodom on the other hand started as black metal band and then started doing thrash with black metal elements for their whole career. Both bands definitely have their highs and lows but for the most part, they both kick ass
It's a pioneer of extreme metal. I'll never forget hearing the opening riffs of "Ripping Corpse" for the first time... 😱But their post 2000 albums are great as well. They sound more like melodeath than extreme thrash but still worth your time.
Their first album(endless pain) came in the early 80s and is still my favourite. Kreator and Sodom are two legendary German thrash metal bands that can entirely knock out the big 4 from the window
I want to add my 2 cents here. I got into thrash metal in 1985. The only way we could hear about bands from Europe were from the local metal and punk music store, which had the latest and most extreme metal. Also there were 2 magazines we used to buy, "Hit Parader" and Circus magazine, which were all about metal and hard rock. So we heard about Kreator and Sodom through those magazines. We had never heard of any association between the two bands back then. We didn't even know Sodom was from Germany. The ads never really mentioned their country of origin. We knew that Kreator was cool through the imagery of their live album that was advertized in one of their magazines; the album was called "Out of the Dark, into the Light". So I bought their latest album around that time "Extreme Aggression". Kreator came to that record store where I bought the album. They all signed their autographs on an album sized copy of the album cover (a square piece of cardboard). They played that night if I recall correctly but we didn't get to go. Anyway, we knew all their previous releases were good, just judging by the album covers and titles (Endless Pain, Flag of Hate EP, etc). Anyhow, I started attending a Southern Baptist church the year after I met Kreator. The youth pastor convinced me that metal music was of the devil and that I needed to throw away my metal records. I threw away only the ones I thought were undeniably devilish. So I started to avoid "secular music" and metal music in general if it wasn't sold in the Christian bookstore. I did "come back to metal" though. You should check out Destruction, another German metal band. I don't know if they would call themselves thrash metal but they're so freakin' metal! My sister in law says you're awesome by the way Imakaiya. Cheers! Muah!
Kreator and Sodom are both part of the "Teutonic Big Four of Thrash" of basically German big 4 for the early Thrash scene of the 80's. The other two being Destruction and Tankard. All have some fantastic material worth checking out. Kreator and Destruction both had their, own unique experimental albums in the 90's, before return to thrash in the 2000's. For Kreator though, I'd say their first 5 albums are essential listens for anybody doing a deep dive into Thrash metal. May I also suggest, on the American side, some Dark Angel. Only 4 albums. Two different singers from the first two, to the last two.
Oh yes, my number 2 from the Teutonic 4...Kreator is a big deal for over 40 years. I hope my number 1 from the Teutonic 4, Destruction with 15 Albums, is soon on your channel here, especially their album "Infernal Overkill" 🤘 Greets from Germany 🤘
