"Please, Catherine. Appear before me and tear me asunder. Let me see your eyes as I expire."
This is real, proper education, something a lot of schools don't get.
Lol no this is not "proper" education, are you for real?
How is it not? Just because it doesn’t appeal to you doesn’t mean that it’s not a good way for students to get the run-down on assigned reading. It makes it easier to understand if it’s told in an interesting way.
Briana Rendon that’s proper? How about reading the book?
Weird Guy I don’t get what makes something proper or improper if it helps make it easier for all readers to understand. Read the book? Not everyone reads at the same level much less understands the subtext and themes.
Briana Rendon and that is why you read to increase your reading ability. I am not saying that not being good at reading makes you uneducated, and I am by no means saying that this video is bad, but watching a video of the book and claiming that is proper education is definitely not the case, when one could be working towards increasing their understanding of literature by actually reading the book.
This was bloody hilarious. When he described Heathcliff returning as a rich folk, I laughed for 2 minutes straight
He got me at "since Edgar's pants saggin' from them $100 bills"

One of my favorites too!!

In my opinion, this novel has the most profound expression of love that is to be found in literature; namely, when Catherine says 'I am Heathcliff'.
"I am inevitable"

My teacher shows us these videos... teenagers will listen as long as it's entertaining.

I'm trying to imagine my teacher showing us this and it's actually laughable 😂😂😂

Schools would be better if there were more teachers like this, or if teachers were allowed to teach like this. Thug-notes is more concise than Cliff-notes and maintains intellectual vitality instead of delivering diluted droning drudgery of most synopses.
I have no idea of who this man is or his background, but he certainly is one of my all-time favorite teachers. Entertaining, informative, original and absurdly funny, he captures the essence of literature vividly, without pretense or dogma. His stage persona is calculated to defeat dogmatism at its roots. He gets to the root of every book faster than any other literature resource I know; fast as a nine-mill cap in yo' ass.

@@dj-yg8gs bro, its wuthering heights. If anything you'll see a limbus fan if by proxy anything related to the inspired literature
More than halfway through the book and loving it. It was one of the classics I never thought I'd read, but after a friend recommended it I'm pretty invested. Now THIS is a real tragic romance. They were only together after death because of their greed and selfish stubborn natures. It actually almost made me tear up reading how Heathcliff despite being rude, ill-tempered and selfish showed his tender side after seeing how sick Cathy was 😭😭
I just finished this book today and I love how melodramatic it is. It's like a soap opera and it's fucking AMAZING. Cathy is at best the perfect encapsulation of "first world/self-inflicted problems" and at worst a downright sociopath who uses emotional manipulation and threats of ill health to get her way. Heathcliff seems sympathetic until he starts sipping the haterade. And Edgar, while pitiable for getting stuck in a loveless marriage, often comes across as the stereotypical rich guy who doesn't realize how condescending he seems.
In short, the three main characters were all terribly flawed in wonderfully entertaining ways and Cathy and Heathcliff's relationship shouldn't be held up as a poignant, tragic, "Oh, if only they could be together!" kind of bond. Both are horribly abusive to each other. I wasn't rooting for them to get together; I was wanting Heathcliff to realize what a selfish, self-pitying bitch Cathy is and for him to move on and possibly find someone else. He had the right idea to get out of town at first. A pity he didn't stay out.
Well I guess it sucks to be him… Kind of. Neat analysis.
The whole 11th grade had to read an abridged, simplified version of Wuthering Heights as outside reading and took a test on it. And everyone got so confused with the whole taking each other's names and surnames and mixing them up to create new names, and depressed as sh*t with all the deaths and the downfall and the revenge lolol.
I was good at English so I write a 10-page casual summary in our mother tongue for a friend, and my friend went and circled it all over the class and the school lol. In conclusion, most of the students hated the story. Well, maybe in part because it's in English, too. But for me, despite all the darkness and confusion, I love how things come full circle in the end. I especially love the poetry of how Hareton and Cathy, who went through the same things as Heathcliff and Catherine, could finally end the cycle of hatred and destruction by forgiveness and understanding in the end.
I got scared about the ghost of Catherine but then I was relieved to remember that I'm already subscribed.
Man, this story is more than a good read. Its actually relatable as hell

My class read this last semester, and we all HATED it, so as a reward for getting through it, our teacher let us watch this video in class. We all died laughing at this part:
"Catherine decides she's gonna marry Edgar even though she don't love him. Skank!"
I have to read this book. It was between this and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Like you said, we HATE it. But this video makes it so much more easier to understand.
@@MackMcDonaldOfficial Jekyll and Hyde is awesome
I'm pretty sure I read this in school, but I don't remember almost any of it. I mostly just remember it being melodramatic and depressing, and I didn't like anyone in the story.

Every time I watch these videos for AP Lit, I understand the book better. Truly a hero.

I'm always surprised at the subtle symbolism and metaphors you find in these novels that often go over the heads of even the most versed of readers . Well done!

I liked this book too!
I use to hate this book because I was forced to read it in school, but once I reread it when I was a bit older I thoroughly enjoyed it.
@@Torithegreat cuz often times its all forced to be interpreted w pretentious language
Honestly, I've always thought that if you can't explain literature this clearly and relatably, it's because you don't understand it yourself. I thoroughly despise teachers who insist literature must be perceived and discussed pompously. I mean, hell, it's natural for me to talk pompously, but I totally admire and accept the validity of Sparky's style of communication. Teachers should get over the concept that there is only one right way to communicate. As long as the concepts are clear, the student should get the best grade and not be yanked around for his language.
Bruh, thug notes is life. Don't ever stop.
I haven't read the book and tomorrow we have a lecture about it... Thanks man :) Wish me luck.

I love this book so much. I wish more people around my age group appreciated it.
spoken like a legend. this was my favorite book in high school--I read it for fun. wish I had a teacher like this who could have broken it down for me.
Loving how Sparky has a thing for teaching us about 19th century and Victorian literature in particular
People here hate this book because it isn't about a cheesy love story with a happy ending for everyone like Jane Eyre or some shit like that. This book is about revenge and hate and it's consecuences. People usually rather read books with pretty unrealistic love stories with predictable endings instead of novels that explore such deep subjects and that actually make them think.
You have a point, of course. But BOOK characters shouldn't try to gain your sympathy. Instead they should be complex even if it means that the readers would despise him/her. I mean, this book is for people who can appreciate complex characters. If you don't then run.
I'm all for complex characters -- in The Silmarillion, one of my favorite characters in Fëanor. He's a terrible person who does very terrible things, but he fascinates me anyway, because of the sheer lost potential he had as a person, if he didn't fall for Melkor's manipulation. Everything that happens to him is entirely his fault, but he's still very intriguing to read about, and part of me feels sorry for him anyway.
And I just...don't get that with Heathcliff. He's not a flat character by any manner of means, but to me he's missing whatever elusive thing makes me pity Fëanor even as I want to smack him, and made me, when I first read The Silmarillion, put my book down and go "god dammit" when he died. I know it's not fair, since Heathcliff wasn't exactly born a sociopath, either; I don't know how to articulate what I mean. There's something about him that just grates on me. (Then again, I"m no fan of Mr. Rochester, either: maybe the Brontë sisters' male characters just aren't for me? I don't know.)
It's not that I don't mind the story, I love the story. The problem with this book is the wordage which makes it hard for me to understand. Which is why I watch summaries online to make sure I understood the main plot like I was supposed to...
I dislike the book because I feel that the why it's told is really badly done. The beginning of the novel is basically a spoiler for the rest of the book and makes it really hard to read as you know what's going to happen. I didn't mind Heathcliff or any of the other characters (apart from Catherine) but the book had no suspense or reason to read 300p of it as I knew what happened and it didn't happen in a particular interesting way. Everyone dies by getting ill which is slightly dull to read (I understand it's realistic but come on can't we have some excitement) and the rest of the novel is people arguing.
Also the Nelly's supposed to be saying the book but she's doesn't talk like an actual person, I don't know maybe that's how people told stories in the 19th century but nowadays I'm not going to sit there for hours while my friend tells me every detail. Nelly also has to do some pretty forced things to overhear stuff and could also be cut out of the novel and lose basically nothing.
I would have liked it if it was set from lots of different peoples pov or maybe still Lockwood but had him come in when Heathcliff came to Wuthering Heights, that way it wouldn't have felt like I was playing catch up waiting for a story to start that never actually did.
+Nelly Elephant it's the Romantic period which means the stories are about human psychology and emotion. It's about how people deal with complex emotions and situations.
And our society has been pretty dumbed down so a lot of people can't understand the language in it at all.
I got mad love this guy.
the whole time i was reading this book i couldn't wait to watch the thug notes on it :p
If you didn't like this book, you should probably cancel your college plans and see if Verizon is hiring customer service representatives. Great job, Thug Notes!

On the other, however, I hate this book with the fiery, undying passion that was lit in English 12 Honours.

Please do War and Peace. That would be epic
One of the best books I've ever read!
this channel is everything i've ever needed and wanted
I seriously think that this is the best thing I've ever seen.
I also thought it was implied that Heathcliff was black or maybe brown-skinned. All the more reason why people then were mean to him.
That was the reason he's Romani but they white washed him
What I LOVED about this book is while it provides a very clear motivation for our protagonist Heathcliff, it never romanticizes them or lets him off the hook. Heathcliff is the classic anti-hero driven to do terrible things with "pure" (and I use that word loosely lol) intentions: love. Brontë is unflinching in describing just how terrible both Heathcliff and Catherine have become (and always were), even if we did root for them when they were younger.
We have our AP Lit final on Wuthering Heights so this definitely helped me out , thanks ! lol
Diana Alvirde same lol
Well this channel is amazing. I'm gunna show my teachers.
I love this book and Jane Eyre. Please do The Tenant of Wildfell Hall as well. It’s so underrated!
My prayers have been received! Thank you Dr. Sparky Sweets. You are amazing and a lifesaver.
I just read it, so I'm biased, but I nominate a review of The Count of Monte Cristo. :)
That was my favorite high school reading assignment.
I bet thug notes will make a hustler out of Dantes. lol
Man, I love your channel. I'm in AP Lit and whenever my friends or I need a rebuff on what happened in the book this is how we talk to describe it to each other.
This is a really interesting and fun way to quickly go through a story!! love the way this guy is talking.
Found this while writing a paper and it gives a good timeline of the events. Love!

I disliked the book, and didn't really understand it that well, so I've been scouring YT for the past half hour searching for summary videos. I finally found this one and wanted to say thank you--because out of 12 different videos, this is the only one that made any sense to me!!
Love thugnotes ❤ I actually just finished reading Wuthering Heights and came to this vid to get a recap of everything i've read. It's a great book! Aside from Heathcliff and Catherine's intense love, I found Hareton and Cathy's little romance at the end very sweet aswell. ☺
This channel is pure brilliance!
This is by far the best explanation I have seen about the book. From what I understand this is just missing the deeper metaphorical aspects of it like from what I understand the characters are supposed to represent different aspects of nature or something
This is easily one of the most amazing things I have ever seen!
....Now THAT's An Oscar worthy adaptation!
has thug notes done Madame Bovary yet? a MUST!!!
Dude, you called it, man.

These THUG NOTES are brilliant. Really clever.
Haven't even let my feet touch the floor yet. It's Tuesday morning and step one is grabbing the iPad for a bit of thug notes. Coffee to follow.
This would be a great way to get kids interested in these books. I wish they would start showing these in schools.
This was great. As a 76 year old white man who has seen so so much in life, I can tell you without a doubt that education is the most important thing in life. It will set your soul free.
I love this book, it's pure raw love
been waiting for this one!!!
This is such a clever series :) Subscribed.
I told myself "Don't click on the Wuthering Heights one, that book was so depressing" yeah... right in the feels. Why didn't I stop myself.
Truly depressing.
Please, please, PLEASE do A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett!
You must see Wuthering Heights 2013 remake. It's unlike any of the other movies because it's presented from Heathcliff's perspective. I've never felt so sympathetic toward and so disgusted by the character. The kids playing in the movie are spectacular. Young Heathcliff broke my heart in ways I could not have imagined through the novel or the various films that have been produced.
Loyal vid, always recommended this to frieda to help pass english.
I wish this summary was available when I was in high school. That soap opera epic of a book was straight up hard to follow. All I could remember was the necrophilia scene, why didn't Thug Notes cover that part??
Such a brilliant idea! Completely delightful and a scream.

I will be very impressed if they can do a Thug Notes of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez! The book is as long as the title, but mind-alteringly brilliant!
