I spend more time on TH-cam than I probably should and come to realize that this is one of the best if not the best cover on TH-cam ! I can't say enough about the soulfulness in your voice . Spent a couple of days running through your library , man , we have similar tastes in music . I dig it Mr. Heckel keep it up !
Side note: This song was written about a reaction to Don McLean singing "Empty Chairs." It's not a love song. So props to Dean for not changing it to "...with her fingers..." etc.
Yes and it was originally done by Roberta Flack in the '70's and it was in response to her listening to Don McLean playing a song; I had heard it was "American Pie" but could be wrong. Too many youngins who didn't grow up in the 70's/80's think it was written by the Fugees. Sorry, but their version sucked. This guy gets it. Love his rendition.
'american pie' about the day the music died. i'm heading towards 70yrs old now and still remember the 1st time i heard it on the radio...a visceral reaction. you're right, this guy gets it.
I am a vocalist doing exactly what you do out here in Philly burbs, man you kill it. I don't play the strings well enough to ay out but I have two incredible guitarist by my side. I am so inspired by you. I have worked your version of Valerie in my set people love it I always give you credit. Man I could listen all day! Great work
Lori Lieberman wrote this song after going to a Don Mclean concert. Mclean was a disarming poet in his early days. A lot more to him than "American Pie." Take a listen to "Tapestry "and "Homeless Brother" Albums. The man could write and croon. And Mclean's song "Crossroads" on the Pie album is the most moving song about suffering depression I've ever heard. Poetic masterpiece in my opinion. I met Don after a concert in Tweed Heads NSW Australia. It was an anti climax. I was so star struck and he was friendly, but largely detached and disinterested. I wasn't offended. He'd been on the road for something like 50 years. He'd met a million people like me.
I listened to tenn wiskey cover. Hit the like button onthis before i even listened to it. 2 of the best ive heard and i have listened to hundreds of covers.
Always one of my favorites. Words can slay me. Pierce my heart. Add music to that and well, you know the rest. Thank you Robert Flack. Thank you Fugees. Thank you Dean Heckel. And thank you to the composers of words, music and arrangements.
Killing Me Softly With His Song Fugees Lyrics😘 Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style And so I came to see him and listen for a while And there he was this young boy, a stranger to my eyes Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed in the crowd I felt he found my letters and read each one out loud I prayed that he would finish but he just kept right on Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song He sang as if he knew me in all my dark despair And then he looked right through me as if I wasn't there And he just kept on singing, singing clear and strong V2 Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song Woooaaah woowooaah laalaalala wooaaah laalaah wooowolaalaah Wa wa wa wa wa wa wa laaaaahh strumming my pain with his fingers...(continue v2).

Record Producers..remember when Chris Stapleton was raw and now look at him. Dean is the REAL DEAL..you better sign him quickly!...he rivals Chris Stapleton with regards to talent.
Master The NEC I agree with everything until the last part. Deans voice is fantastic and very similar to Stapleton... almost as good. But Chris has a huge catalog of original songs. His talent as a songwriter is currently unrivaled, but that’s my opinion. Cheers
If you did this song in utah at a bar were alot of polynesians go too. All the women would of been head over heals for you bro. Seriously man!! Great job!!👏
I spent two hours looking for this cover. I knew how I wanted it to sound in my head but I could not for the life of me find any thing close to what I wanted.
Im from Brasil and i dont speak english but i had tô coment, you are very special, your voyce is amazing ,thanks guy i love this song singered by Frank Sinatra but now i prefer whit you.
>"by Fugees" who were doing a cover of Roberta Flack (who was a doing a reinterpretation of Lori Lieberman). I really don't get the reasoning behind the weird crediting to the Fugees in 95% of the covers of this song. Would anyone cover Killing Me Softly and credit "by Dean Heckel"? That's quite ridiculous
72 people don’t like this - god save humanity. Brilliant!
This is one of the better covers I've heard. It deserves more credit than it's got
so raw. my god. so full of emotion. i like the cross between the fugees an roberta flack
After listening to ten different covers this one sounds the most original with musicality cover !!!
Pure talent! Sitting with my fading 93 year old mommy. You brought her back to life. Thank you! I'm weeping. But like a man! Ok? Argh Thank you
Totally Nailed It Sir ❤
dude THANK YOU for doing the only convincing male cover of this on TH-cam, so the would-be's among us see it's at least possible!
I like this dudes covers, what does it comment mean?
Real nice cover. If I could purchase this on a cd, I would.
I keep coming back to this cover.... and all of your covers! Dean, you give me shivers!!! Good JOB!
Friggin brilliant. Great cover. Original! Fresh. Raw! Fantastic. Unafraid 💪🏼

Stumbled across one of your covers and so glad I checked out others. G-Dammit these are amazing!
If I was a record producer I'd sign you in a second. You're dangerously talented.
Dude. All I can say is I'm a fan! You're voice is so organic! Bravo!
how is Dean not super famous by now? his voice is amazing
Haha wow bud this is unreal. That rasp to your voice is amazing and im jealous i havent been able to find that voice yet.
How can a person be this good and underrated. Love your music!
where have i been.....this guy is amazing
Man! Your voice has hit it off with this song. Love it!
Side note: This song was written about a reaction to Don McLean singing "Empty Chairs." It's not a love song. So props to Dean for not changing it to "...with her fingers..." etc.
I hate when folks do that to almost any song.
I hate when singers do that. Singing the lyrics does not change your sexuality 😑😒
'american pie' about the day the music died. i'm heading towards 70yrs old now and still remember the 1st time i heard it on the radio...a visceral reaction. you're right, this guy gets it.
Pamyu Pamyu Ai Hmm didn’t know that. However it was Roberta Flack who made it famous. Her version is iconic.
It only gets better. What the driven hell is wrong with the world; you need to be super famous!
this, and you, deserve way more views man - you have a killer voice mate

Killing Me Softly With His Song
Fugees
Lyrics😘
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him and listen for a while
And there he was this young boy, a stranger to my eyes
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed in the crowd
I felt he found my letters and read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish but he just kept right on
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
He sang as if he knew me in all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me as if I wasn't there
And he just kept on singing, singing clear and strong
V2
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words

Killing me softly with his song
Woooaaah woowooaah laalaalala wooaaah laalaah wooowolaalaah
Wa wa wa wa wa wa wa laaaaahh
strumming my pain with his fingers...(continue v2).
Gary Martin the first word of the fourth from last line is actually “wooooaaah”. Close though!
Nice stuff for sure!
Goosebumps! So much talent
You are amazing, bro! Congrats!!
Dayum! This is so good!
Great work
Strumming my pain with his fingers

I spent two hours looking for this cover. I knew how I wanted it to sound in my head but I could not for the life of me find any thing close to what I wanted.
Altho i dont like Fugees version. It's too upbeat. Do the original, it's sadder.
