“The worst atrocity committed against Jewish people since the holocaust” though true, it’s like comparing a tsunami to wave in broadstairs beach. It’s a very emotive phrase and it’s sole purpose has unfortunately been used to justify far worse atrocities since 7.10. There are far better ways to respect the anniversary of 7.10 than to use emotive Israeli spokesperson phrases used as propaganda to nazify Palestinians. You have shown great empathy to both side, but c’mon, you are better than that O’Brian
Is he though? I feel like most people aren't actually spending much time looking at the nuances, and instead just look at numbers and react to them. Most of the comments don't even make any sense, when you look at the activities more objectively.
I feel you acknowledging that it's true really handicaps your point. We shouldn't ignore things that are true just cause they're inconvenient to our argument
@@zlaw691 if you can’t see why using a phrase used by Israeli spokespersons and propagandists of comparing 7.10 (695 civilian deaths) to the holocaust (over 6,000,000 civilian deaths) for the sole purpose of justifying what has and is happening to Palestinians then I really can’t help you. So with that knowledge, this ‘truth’ is awfully stretched, and is pretty obvious why it’s been used in such a dangerous way that for a journalist like O’Brian to parrot is quite irresponsible.
@tariqjoseph3562 I mean the truth can be used for propaganda as well. But if you start telling people to ignore/don't say something you know is true then I think you're doing your own side of the argument a disservice. Regardless of larger context October 7th was a hugely significant day that not unreasonably gets compared to the September 11th attacks. It's an inconvenient truth for those of us, myself included, who feel Israel's government has handled this terribly and horrifically, much like the American government did after September 11. But you're suggestion that people shouldn't acknowledge something that's true because the other side uses that fact as propaganda doesn't seem helpful, in my opinion of course
Terrorists are terrorists. Doesn't get more simple than that. Maybe we should all do our research on History to find out where the true hate started and where we are today
This is a channel from Britain. Everyone knows when the true hate started. Britain caused it with the Belfour Declaration. Plenty of pre-Israel Palestinian Jews alive to testify to that.
You're spot on for Israelis. Clearly you haven't been talking to Palestinians. They want food, water, a sewage system. They want their schools and universities back. They don't have the luxury to reject the existence of Israel.
People who think Palestinians want a state in any form of Isreal state is delusional They just have to listen to the Palestinians. They say all the land is theirs
A simple question to solve all the dilemmas related to the conflict in Gaza. Ready, Mr O'Brien? During WW2, the British and American air forces bombed Dresden. Tens of thousands of civilians died. Who was to blame? The Nazis or the Allies? If you reply, the Nazis, then Hamas is to blame.
@angusmcfarlane1225 The number of times the Luftwaffe bombed cities, towns and villages were thousands of innocent civilians died are too many to mention. Never mind the v1 and V2 bombs…. Why should anyone care about Dresden?
You were all to eager to support the Isreal narrative, you outsourced your thinking at the time. Most of us knew, even today some isolate this to Netanyahu. It’s the entire state of Isreal including most of its people and their enablers the US and UK Israel that enable this. This conflict did not start on 7 Oct.
The French freedom fighters were called the resistance in ww2 because they fought the invaders of their own country. Why were the Palestinians not afforded the same title for a similar cause ????
“The fault is on both sides” from the ‘Yes Prime Minister’ TV series shown 1986. Something’s just won’t change. This debate will go on for a 1000+ years.
Conflating the October 7 attacks with the Holocaust is highly problematic. It devalues the Holocaust while justifying the carnage unleashed on the Palestinians in Gaza (and the West Bank) and on the Lebanese. It also devalues Palestinian lives who in terms of the size of the attack have suffered exponentially more. Before October 7th 96% of all deaths in this conflict were Palestinian. That bizarre percentage has only gone up. I feel that these discussions about 'how this is going to end' are highly disingenuous. The ICJ has ruled that the decades long Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, as the apartheid and the settlements are illegal. Should O'Brien and the bothsides centrist crowd truly care about international law then they would push Israel and western governments to follow the ICJ's recommendations. That also includes the current war of annihilation and hunger which the ICJ has also ruled that Israel should stop.
Was the Holocaust an attack on military bases with a combatant to civilian ratio of 1:1.4 in one day ending in a battle? Are they really comparable in any way? Can we drop the Holocaust comparison already?
What a dreadful mistake for Obrien to do this on an anniversary of mass killings. How many lives would be saved if Arab Muslim countries opened their borders for Palestinians. Europe did for Ukrainians. Nobody talks about Egypt closing its border to Palestinians.
