    Last year I removed the search engine from the main screen of my phone and deleted all social media apps. I only watch content on TH-cam and even that is limited. I now spend my time going on walks, taking care of my plants, doing bodyweight exercises at home and cooking from scratch. I also rediscovered the library last fall and enjoy reading with a cup of green tea or a homemade matcha latte. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything but have gained so much more by living a slower life.

    EVERY day I think how super weird cell phones are. I'm 60 now and I remember long Summer days, riding my bike & eating strawberries, hanging out with friends. I knew I was expected home for lunch and/or dinner, so I would be on time. No phone calls, no cell phone. Nothing but the sounds of nature & my friends laughter. Simplier times, much better times. Most definitely healthier. A wonderful video! 💕💕💕

      It’s a strange thing; we didn’t have cell phones let alone smartphones growing up and I agree that in a lot of ways that was much better. But now I want my kids to be able to reach me when they need to and I can’t find an address that I visited multiple times if without google maps 😣

    I broke my ankle a month and a half ago and have been living a very slow lifestyle. I have not wasted more then a few hours in the past 1.5 months on any social media platforms and it has been revolutionary! My mental health has been the best it has been in years. I have spent most of my time tucked away in books that make me feel so fulfilled and good at the end of the day. I wish more people would take social media breaks and realize how much better their mental health can be.

    The other day I saw the quote "Focus on how your life feels rather than how it looks". I realized a few weeks ago I live a lot of my life through the lens of what it would look like as an Instagram story, and I realized I needed to step back from social media quite a bit. But I'll always tune in to my favorite TH-camrs! 🌻🌼💚

    Sophie; I applaud your focus in your videos. It is great that you can run a lifestyle channel dedicated to slow living and minimalism. What I don't see is the integration and the necessity of working for a living, commuting, paying all of the bills, attending to health issues, repairing the auto, house, and yard maintenance. You are afforded the pleasure, time, leisure, and income to travel internationally. You failed to mention anything about children, your husband, or obligations to other family members. To me and everyone I know, your lifestyle is a fantasy - a pipe dream. I don't want "to rain on your parade" but a little reality of the complexities of your life and your secret to eliminate the difficulties, would help humanize your lifestyle channel.

    • @MalamaLife
      @MalamaLife  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +34

      I appreciate your comment and see where you are coming from. Every channel/creator is different, and my intent is to provide food for thought with these videos. I definitely don't have all the answers and don't have the credibility to touch on all topics, so I tread lightly on purpose. I do share bits and pieces of my life, but of course I also have my boundaries with putting so much of my life on the internet and I hope you and this community understand ❤️

    • @heloisa_sd
      @heloisa_sd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I think this is a fair point. Of course what we see on this channel is not attainable for most people. But there are all sorts of content online and a lot of creators already showing “aspirational lifestyles” and trying to come across as transparent with their online community. Ultimately it’s always a curated cut of reality. I personally enjoy this channel as somewhere to find some peace and food for thought when I’m in the mood to reflect about essentialism. Doesn’t need to be close to reality.

    I do believe that slowing down and getting back to our more natural roots would be beneficial to all.
    It is true that those who invented certain social platforms knew it would be detrimental to society but they went forward anyway.
    Getting off social media and distancing ourselves from tech as much as possible would only bring greater health in every way.
    I have many ways to socialize so I have to be very selective as to not be too busy.
    I never, ever use self checkout.
    Even if asked to by the establishment. I say, no thank you, I like humans! ☺️

    I resonate with this video so heavily… incorporating more mindfulness creates improved connectedness to the simplicities of life and as a result, because society is so fact paced/microwave mentality, we lose touch or feel disconnected to that lifestyle..
    Currently the only social media I have is TH-cam.. I commit to 6 month deactivations and am now feeling ready to completely cancel my account… if only I wasn’t a therapist and an author .: everyone pushes me to stay connected for the sake of my book. I hate it there.

    “The driver sat in his iron seat and he was proud of the straight lines he did not will, proud of the tractor he did not own or love, proud of the power he could not control. And when that crop grew, and was harvested, no man had crumbled a hot clod in his fingers and let the earth lift past his fingertips. No man had touched the seed, or lusted for the growth. Men ate what they had not raised, had no connection with the bread. The land bore under iron, and under iron gradually died; it was not loved or hated, it had no prayers or curses.”

    You read my mind! I have been feeling this way for way too long to remember. I often think about how is the earth sustainable? The way we use things to the way things are wasted. The faster we are growing, the more distant we are from reality. We are not meant to live this way hence the feeling of disconnection. It's like we live in a virtual world and it is an illusion. Reality is simple and peaceful. But then, we are made to feel unambitious when we seek simplicity.

    I used to live in areas where the only way to shop was through big box stores. Fortunately I live in an area that those types of stores are too far to get to and I am surrounded by orchards, farms and a lot of local businesses that I can support. It’s very easy where I live to eat locally and find whole, fresh foods in season. We still need the supermarket for certain items but it has probably been over 9 years since I’ve stepped foot into a Costco, Sam’s Club or chain restaurant. I’m very proud of that and like you, wish we could all own enough land to grow our own food and live a more healthy and sociably connected lifestyle.

    I’ve been feeling all of this hard. I don’t care for society. It’s to fast, rushed, loud, angry, and disconnected for sure. As someone who was a kid in the 70’s, and a teen in the 80’s… I find the last 10 years, especially the last 4, just too much. They are building on every free space, plowing through the hills around here in California. Nature and animals are everything to me. They just be. They aren’t rushing.

Instead, wanting to go inside the bank with her passbook where she inevitably had a nice chat with the teller, lol. I often think slow living is just how people's lives were, how they just lived their life, how they use to be. How I remember my childhood to be. That is what evolving means for me. Yesterday I went to the bookstore without any plan. When suddenly my feet let me to a tower of books. I just followed the feeling and took the one my arm already found. It was packed so I could not read anything. The title was "A gentle notes". Instead a short resume, on the back was only written "take what you need". I decided to follow the message from above and to trust my intuition. I am so tired of scores, recommendations and ratings. They all are cages for the intuition, for the right to choose alone. Well, the book turned out to be a wonderful letter to me ❤ Thank you, Universe!

    I agree so much with this. It’s encouraging to find someone that communicates these ideas in such a beautiful and inspiring way ❤ I hope more people start hearing about this way of seeing the world - not all will agree, but I’m sure many will find more fulfilling lives.

    You are literally my soul sister from another birth. I have been feeling this for some time. Since last year when I went to India to my hometown which just didn’t feel home. Everything is modern, I miss the old small shops and street food. I knew the people before and now it felt like a strange world.
    I am not perfect myself but I do miss my childhood which felt so innocent and pure and connected. Thank you so much for sharing this video ❤❤

    I feel so disconnected lately. I feel like my day should always be productive and that when it’s not I feel so bad and sorry! I can’t focus at all and sit still.. so I am working on myself now! Your videos makes me feel that I’m not alone! People out there feels the same like me! And it makes me feel comforted! This life is so different from what I grew up in. In my country in Philippines before we just care about what surround us. I didn’t even have any idea what the other worlds look like! Now with Soc med it’s all in your face! And sometimes you feel like you’re way left behind! I just want to be grounded again! Your video reminds me that real life still exist!

    I recently started working only one day a week so I could spend more time with family and taking care of my children. We have what we need with very tight budgeting, but not much else. I have never felt more happy, fulfilled and satisfied with life than i do now. I thought it would be the opposite. That i would feel so restricted without as much money, but there is such a freedom that I have gained in now being able to raise my daughters.

    Love love this one I can relate on so many levels, being a Costco employee now going on 34 years I have seen the disconnect in how people treat one another and how desensitized our employees have become myself included sadly. However i am in a position where I mentor the new and not so new employees on the importance of finding the good in our members even the cranky ones. I myself as I check the receipts I made it a point to give EVERYONE a smiling face be it on there receipt or on a hand drawn smile on a bandage I wear on my thumb that I hand the receipt back to the members. And most do not notice the one on my thumb but the ones that do I thank them for slowing down long enough to embrace the little effort I put into possibly making there experience at costco a little more pleasant.

    I missed your wisdom. Beautiful video 🍃
    I realised how much i love interacting with people. I was ignorant towards my need to socialize bc i always step on the side of my fear and what it wants. But i lose so much opportunities to just have fun that now i can't take it anymore. I isolate myself constantly and that might be the biggest reason why i feel so disconnected. Because when i with people i feel more alive than ever.
    What's the meaning of life...i don't ask this question with the same fear of unknown anymore. For me it's doing what makes you feel alive. Take courage is one of this. I always have this ticklish but pleasant feeling inside when i think 'what if i would do that? what would happen? i most definitely be happy'. I acknowledge my fear is still there but i do baby steps. And it's so beautiful to see how i'm outgrowing my fears.
