  • I could not find the tool I was looking for, so I made it. This is a quick overview of a 3 sheave Block and Tackle with swappable hooks on each end.

This might be a little late but you’re like one of my favorite human beings at the moment of that video

I'm so glad you put this vid up. I've been looking around for months for a similar 3 sheave block and tackle and there's very little out there to match it.
Thought about doing this like you have, so now I know the concept will work. Great !
The pulleys that are available seem to be customised for particular applications, i.e either for climbing, arborists, gym equipment, awnings, boating, rescue, pulling 4X4's, crane pulleys or general heavy duty blocks that cost a fortune. I also looked at chain blocks, lever chain pulley, ratchet winches / brake winches but none offer the speed and versatility, compactness, low cost and strength as your setup. Also this 3 sheave has the advantage of being able pull or lift an object.

Can you create a parts list and post it to your description please?

Fantastic project! I believe you're incorrect on the pulley weight. You should stick with the load limit of each pulley no higher. Think about it this way, a 400 pound load, four ropes, you pull 100 lb the next rope gets 200 the next rope gets 300, that last rope is still pulling the full 400 lb, it's not divided by 4. You can't go over the manufacturer specs on the pulley.

Wow -a really great device, and the video itself was well done too! Let's see that bad boy in action! If it worked as expected or not, it would be great to see a follow up. That is - if you can just drop everything else you're busy with and spend another 8 hours making another video...

The Achilles heel is the bolt.

Is there a mechanical reason for putting all three pulleys on the same sheave bolt? Do they not work as well if they are only fixed at the anchoring end?

Convenience. Rather than hooking up each one, having them all in one "block" makes it easier to connect and disconnect and relocate.

Where did you get the pulleys and what weight are they rated for?

I got them at a Farm Supply store at the time, but they are available on Amazon. Each pulley is rated at 480 lbs.

3 pairs with 1 pair loading each pulley. Not 6 lines. Divide or multiply by 3 not 6👍
Divide by 6 for the rope capacity.

Confusing summation:' ..price wise this is new, and it's gonna work'. Your fabrication may be acceptable to accomplish your task but on what basis do you equate it to a block and tackle?

    • @CalebMayfieldMHF
      @CalebMayfieldMHF  2 ปีที่แล้ว

"Price wise this is new" means these parts are new, unused parts. Not an antique bought off eBay with unknown wear and tear.
As for how I equate it to a block and tackle I'm not sure what you mean. It's a block and tackle. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_and_tackle

@@CalebMayfieldMHF Thanks for the feedback. I know what 'new' means and its ramifications. Usually 'price wise' argues for cost effectiveness between competing solutions.
