    I own a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 900VN Classic, and after a few modifications. It is probably one of the comfiest bikes I’ve ever owned. My first bike was a 1500 Suzuki Boulevard C90-SE, and I actually down sized for the maneuverability in the city.

      For a boulevard cruiser is does well in the city and suburbs⛰🏞. Yeah, it can handle both environments, but as you mentioned in its' stock set-up long distance riding on the 900 could be challenging.

    I'm sold. At my age I couldn't ride my old sportster, V-Max, ZX-9, 14 or Raider these days. They were my joy through those years. But now I want to relax. To my eye, aesthetically, the 900C has the cleanest lines with the most appealing proportions.

    Not a single review of this motorbike has given negative comments. Some would like it to have a bit more power and a 6th forward gear. In terms of comfort, each and every one agree it is absolutely fine.

    • @MaxiScooterGuy
      @MaxiScooterGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough! A negative with this bike is the absence of a 6th gear, which makes it more of a city bike. Fuel consumption is practically identical to a Sportster 883 @ 52mpg (4.5 Gallon tank) and the Kawasaki 900 @ 51mpg (5.3 Gallon tank) apart from tank size. I can literally see the needle drop every time I look down at the gauge when cruising the highway. I wouldn't recommend this bike for long distance riding because of the missing Overdrive gear.

    Started on a Shadow 750. I had pretty much the same thing as you going on (and was originally looking at Sportsters, Vulcan wasn't even on my radar). Budgeted, wanted something "newer" (my shadow is a 98, so that doesn't take much lol), more power, reliable and like... I think the biggest appeal of this bike is just the fact that it's low maintenance and it can do basically anything. I just toss on a windscreen and my saddlebags if I want to hit the highway and it can pretty much ride with the big boys with its huge range and respectable pull. I can just hop on and toss it into twisties because it's not a bear of a bike like you'd expect from some big bagger. I can ride it around town because it has SO much low end and it's super heavy (compared to a Road King for example).
    Honda got me into riding but Kawasaki stole my heart. No matter what I get in the future, if I'm going brand new I will ALWAYS see what Kawasaki is offering. I'll probably just ride this guy until its last ride, though.
    I also have straight pipes on it and it sounds mean lol.
    Actually, the VERY first thing that made me look at the 900 custom was because I just got done cleaning the spokes on my Shadow and I wanted nothing to do with that ever again lmao

      Wes, how was your experience with the M50? I'm thinking about buying a nice used one. I rode one and it seemed to fit me well (5'6" 170lb), but I was a bit put off by the engine vibration. I think I read somewhere that they don't use rubber engine mounts. I also tried a Yamaha V-Star 950 but it didn't feel refined and I hated those wide bars. I'm thinking the Vulcan 900 might be worth checking out. I want it for local riding and some 200 mile day trips with several hour long stops.

    It's a 900cc, 2.4m long, 280kg motorcycle. Only Americans would call that an entry level bike. An entry level bike where I come from is a 125cc, a 250cc motorcycle or a cub that weigh a bit over 100kg. A middle class bike is like a 400cc-600cc at 200kg max. This is a big bike lol. Low 5700 rpm max LC and the same bottom end as the 1500 etc makes it super reliable .
    Cruisers at 60 plus all day ( done the head down ass up cafe race 40 years ago)

    Most people avoid the specs when comparing ! Especially harley specs compared to these 900s ! Snd like you said the price 2-4 times as much but not 3-4 times better ! But when you're doing horse power the weigh of the bike to the horse power ! The comparable harleys are near the same horse power as the 900s but they weight 900 lb or more ! The 900s are like 600lbs there abouts !!!
    Mine has front and rear drive pulleys a 200 rear tire and big sucker air cleaner 2-1 dan moto headers ( dropping like 20 lbs right there ) and fuel management! The speedo reads 5mph under what you're actually going ! So now it has like 5 - 10 more horse power than stock !
    She's been to the Canada border but I didn't go in ! I don't go where Americans ain't allowed ! I held the guns for my friend's while they crossed that was the completion of their border to border run on their new indians ( I rode with them from Brookings north ) ! They were really carful not to drop the indians not so much because they were new but because it would be so hard to get them back up ( did I say those harley and indians are like 900lbs ) !!!!! How in hell do you make them 900 lbs ?

      right. my vn 800 A handles like a sport bike as far as im concerned. i can u turn from full lock , in dirt , counter steer easily and slow speed handling is outstanding. but when it's time to GITT ! It will go swiftly. it is like you said, power to weight ratio. these bikes have the edge. my Suzuki vz 800 is even better. has more horsies and only weighs in at 470 fully fueled. low center of gravity and mine has a belt drive. home made .not skoot works. go see at my channel. or google "Suzuki Marauder belt drive" . both bikes are at my thumb nail. one of a kind .i didn't like the bolt on shit that was available for that model. it's getting some maintenance and i'll be riding it again. it is so f'n fast compared to the vulcan it's disgusting .and the vulcan isn't slow. great bikes. but i still want an old twin cam ground pounder for fun. got a 99 Harley FXSTD Deuce with an 88 that was left in a barn. im restoring it now . when all done , i'll do an owners comparrison of the metric vs American. i think they are all great in their own ways . they all make me smile especialy this 800 vulcan. really good bike. reliable.

    i have an 800 A from 1995. predecessor of your 900. has a single cv carb. chain drive but other than that very similar .900 has better rear brake and belt . i changed the drive sprockets to 19 front and 39 rear and got power range balanced between rpm and speed. it has most power between 1500 and 4000 rpm above that , it struggles with more throttle. no problem .now it has more power than previous gearing. i expected the opposite result .apparently this little v twin is designed to make best power at low rpm. factory gearing is useless in America. i only shimmed neddle in throat slide .8 mm to richen up fuel mix and kept factory jet. factory air intake. i keep up with twin cam Harleys no problem. hyway better too. but max comfortable on that is about 75 mph. over that , clutch starts to vibrate and front end feels sqoily. ( that's " squirrely" said by Curly from the 3 stooges)
    75 is fast enough any way. made my own seat , bars , forward controls, and light bar. it's loud . quik and pretty. i like it. go see it at my channel. and my Suzuki Marauder. made a belt drive for it.

    I'm only 2 years late to the party, but, i am curious about your decision...did you consider the Suzuki Boulevard series? C50/M50 would be close in many specs to the Vulcan, and I think fall in comparable price bracket. A few stats (like clearance, seat height), I'd have to look up. Lest I be accused of tempting you to second guess your decision...I'm looking at bikes, and my current short list is: Vulcan 900 Custom. Um, yeah. Very short list! :-) But, every time I look at the Boulevards, I whimper a little, and sit in the corner saying "oh what shall I do?" Vulcan, Boulevard...it's all moot until I can talk my hunny into, though! :-)
    my reasons: reliability, seat height, belt drive, maneuverability, decent (if not sporty) lean angles. Good balance in performance vs economy. reasonable wet/dry weight, weight/load capacity, stock pipes sound fine (thank you very much).
    Greetings from the semi-state of Maine! (most Americans don't know Maine is part of the US; more than few Mainers are surprised to learn it, too.) May I ask what a medium and a full blown cruiser are? I don't understand these clasifications anymore. If the 900 is small, then how about the 500 s and the 650 which are quite capable anyway?

    • @just-dl
      @just-dl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I could take a guess, I'd say 750-1000 would be the smaller cruisers...1100-1500 for the medium sized, and 1600-2000cc engines for the big boys. Below 750 (like the Boulevard S40) is a bit small for interstate/highway speeds (at least for longer stretches), which I think is limiting for a cruiser. (They're great for buzzing around town, but it's a strain to go from town to town.) I don't believe there's any formal classification (at least I'm not aware of one), but, I think it's good to think in these terms when you're comparing (for example) a Vulcan 900 to a Vulcan 1700 Vaquero. Comparing fuel efficiency is lopsided one way, while performance is lopsided in the reverse comparison.

      Hi, I'm 6ft and I fit good on the bike. I feel even better since I change the seat. Go a moto dealer and sit on the bike. See how you like it!
      Cheers and ride safe!

    I would call a 900 fuel injected bike with forward controls is a middle weight cruiser

    This is not an entry level cruiser...it is a 900 cc. I stopped watching the moment he said that. That statement means that this guy does not know what he is talking about.

      @kelley Manning u must not get out much then because the vulcan 900 is considered in the bike world an entry level cruiser. its not a crotch rocket u know

      If you are tall, this is a good first cruiser.

      I own one after riding a shadow 750 as my first bike and I would say it is an entry level cruiser for a mature adult. The only drawback is it's weight and even that it carries extremely well. 900cc isn't much when it's pulling around over 620lbs of bike + rider. It's got torque sure but 0-60 is like 7 seconds lets be real here that's slow.

      This is definitely an entry cruiser
