Kirtsugu blamed himself for not killing Shirley, which would’ve stopped the outbreak. He swore thereafter that he would never hesitate to kill for the greater good. That is the reason why he was so easily able to kill his father.

Actually I do agree with Luke. Kerry's father wasn't the best but he was good (althought he looked at things more logically). He cared about Kerry and never we saw him either retaliate after the stab or even raise his voice when he suspected Kerry about getting into his Workshop (which for a mage is pretty disrespectful). He apologised he couldn't allow Kerry to take his things and also outright denied to subject his son to experimentation.
Kerry was a kid so he did jump into the worse (but reasonable) conclusions for this situation and we do not condone neither of the two for what happened.
To me, what made Kerry attack his father was not the fact that he was doing something bad BUT that he did not show any remorse for Sherry's death as byproduct of his research. Later reaching the conclusion of- "If someone so close to him couldn't cause him to react, no human would and thus the same thing happening again somewhere else so he must be stopped"
Sadly that is how Mages act and the reason why Tokiomi so willingly within his own reasoning sold his daughter to another family.
AND THAT is why Fate Zero is a tragedy. It didn't have to happen, but it did, and it hurts.

omgg thiss!!! this is the perfect reason why most of us kinda agree to kiri act to his father! though, yea, that was tragedy nonetheless.
the thing is, like comment above, if nothing comes to his mind when tragedy happened to his close ppl, then he'll just do it again and again somewhere some time...

In the back story, we were told that everyone have their own “root/source”, and people will react as what the root made of
Kiritsugu’s root is “cut and reconnect”, but will not connect in a proper way.
Which means his mindset is to solve a problem by break it into smallest pieces, then reconnect them messily
his root was triggered because of sherry’s death.
this is also the concept of his unique bullet, damage enemy’s magic circuit and messily join them back, then cause them self-destruction.

27:00 it's a cut content, after failing to kill Shirley, Kiritsugu vowed to never hesitate again for the greater good, no matter what. You can still see him lamenting his action AFTER.

IIRC, Kiritsugu`s father plan was to use time alter magic for speedrunning to the end of times and reach Akasha that way, since Root is beginning and the end of all. But human life isn`t long enough to make it even with accelerated time flow, so he also started search for immortality or something close to it to make it happen

This episode actually connects Fate Zero to the much bigger Nasuverse by introducing Vampires, Dead Apostles and Zealots. Whilst Fate is mainly focused on the Holy Grail War and magic, other series in the Nasuverse i.e. Tsukihime (Moon Princess) and Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners) touched more on Vampires and magic. I have watched Kara no Kyoukai and the plot was quite good. Only wishing Tsukihime could get a proper anime adaptation.

The young Kiritsugu respected his father, and his father was not an evil man, but loved Kiritsugu. He was just a magician. Then why did Kiritsugu kill his father? It was because Kiritsugu could not kill her when he discovered Shirley had taken the medicine. Even though she had changed her appearance, it would be a "no" if we ask whether a boy of that age could easily kill his first love, Shirley, even though she had changed. However, Kiritsugu thought that this had caused the tragedy in the village. And he thought that if he kept his father alive, the same thing would happen in the future. For Kiritsugu, that was the only thing he really wanted to stop. I believe it is no exaggeration to say that the starry sky scene was the beginning of everything.

Kiritsugu learned from this experience. True that he had a closer bond with Shirley than with his dad but we all know that if he could turn back time he would have killed Shirley. (spoiler....

His dad doesn't really connects with his son that much since he spends most of his time researching, as a typical mage. A mage's family is fundamentally different with a normal family. You see Tokiomi Tohsaka (Gilgamesh's master) and he is a prime example of the typical mage. He sold his F*CKING DAUGHTER to the Zouken family and is willing to let them kill each other for the sake of his 'research'. I'm sorry but other non-mages or at least mages but don't carry the same mentality just had enough with that bullshit.
To me, those fathers are not that much better than Shou Tucker from Fullmetal Alchemist.
    ---
And no, I'm not saying that Kiritsugu is a great father, either.

Maybe it’s just cultural differences. In Asia, families are usually seen to be closed and connected,so son has some sort of responsibility to “fix the problem and compensate “when his parents make sins. In the boy’s eye because he didn’t stop his father , the tragedy and the death of the girl are his sin, too. In that case, the “father identity” won’t stop him to kill his father. Or you can say it only strengthen the motivation, since he has to compensate for his and his families’ sin. He killed his father by himself not only because his father is bad but also it’s his expiate for the victims and punishment for himself and his dad.

This was a weird episode honestly, it is a peak into the greater Nasuverse, more than just Fate is included and vampires are a thing in there. It does also explain Kiritsugu's motivations and personality a bit though.

Yeah but at the same time magus don’t have the same morals as normal people most families have really messed up stuff
like one family makes children grow up with a puppy to later make them kill them to lose any form of attachment and make them to experiments on the body that was the whole reason the older child drop out because she had morals and too much emotions
Another family was torturing the land to the point a peaceful fairy had to kill him and everyone in the territory
Another family we’re making humanoid homunculus and put them in containers to make them into batteries and the ones that didn’t put into the war to be slaughtered mind you each one of those things are just humans with less life span and born in a text tube
Hell even the lower families are messed up the parents had a child that was in a coma she was around elementary age and the first thing the asked the doctor was is her reproductive organs still useable
Hell another family adopted another and made them train by throw them in pit with worms that would violate her each night until the age of 16
And the other family let it so as they saw no problems with it
Kiritsugu’s dad if left would undoubtably do it again thats the whole point he was kicked out of the clock tower not because his experiments were evil but because it could show the public Magecraft exists to the world because he needed text subjects and his not even the only one that experimented with the dead apostles many did and many killed whole villages
For a son what kiritsugu did wasn’t a good enough reason but for what kiritsugu was wanting to become it was the right choice

the father had a sealing designation.. you must realize by now that magus are all amoral.. and several just right immoral.. well.. a sealing designation means that the magus is sooo bad (uncontrolled/even unique) that even the magus community thinks hes bad news and needs to be restricted/confined/ (for safety or study)... this also means this is not the first time Kiritsugu's Father did this.. to have a sealing designation before all this means he had done it before.. and was willing to do it again .. also gotta point out that even if half the town survived they would have to be executed: "no witnesses" ..... something that the show doesnt explain well is the necessity of secrecy for the magus community.. if they have to destroy a city to keep magic a secret they will destroy a city .. they have done it before.. is not just for safety either.. magic NEEDS to be secret or it becomes useless (but this is part of the lore and is not explained in fate zero ... it does get explained in fate / stay night IIRC) .. and having some magus going around and trying to create a sane vampire doesnt help keeping magic a secret and threatens the existence of magic itself.
the Nasuverse is pretty grey and several parts are black and vantablack... and then comes the Urobutcher.. wait till the next episode xD

I always like that reaction when people reacting to this episode, some said that it's f*cked up that Kiritsugu killed his father without second thought, while the comment give justification that his dad can't be left alive, but IMO they're missing the point. It is true that Kiritsugu's dad cannot be left alive, but for a son to kill his dad without second thought, it's without a doubt f*cked up.
And on a broader perspective, this backstory solidify the similarity between Kirei and Kiritsugu. Both are evil person, but tried to be good. Kirei is someone that's evil at heart, but he tried to be good person (Even if in the end he realized that it's not working), while Kiritsugu is evil at heart but he convinced himself that what he did is for greater good.

    • @numquam7872
      @numquam7872 ปีที่แล้ว

I disagree with saying that he killed his father with no second thought. In my opinion, he was very methodical on his approach and reached the conclusion that there was no other way but to make sure his father died. He went as far as to lie to Natasha about the barrier just to make sure he got to the place first.
So either by pure hatred/rage, or by cold calculation, he was keen on getting to his father. And when he saw his father being absolutely distant and uncaring about the things that happened (or Shirley's death) he probably lost any doubts/lingering attachment that stopped him from killing. He did not go and stab him asap. He talked to him and confirmed his suspicions about his father being a monster before doing the deed.
It was probably a combination of shock, fear, rage and disappointment that allowed him to kill his father. But he no doubt thought about it. It's just that his father didn't do anything that would redeem him to Kiritsugu's eyes, so every thought after the first ended in the same conclusion.

Response to your end comments....not everyone has a good or even average dad. Some of us have real bastards. If my dad had been responsible for that it more than would have been the final straw. The dad basically said he was going to try again, so a whole new village at risk to his selfish experiments?

  • @Regulas_Leonis
    @Regulas_Leonis ปีที่แล้ว

I do agree it is messed up that he did his Dad in like that however, if my father crossed that line and became a monster I would have to do something about it. It makes a dark sense cuz anyone else the dad would have his guard up and with his time magics could have escaped.
