The '90s really were a great time to be a kid enjoying Halloween. Halloween of 1997 was probably my favorite of all Halloweens, because it was a Friday night and my parents let me have some friends spend the night after trick-or-treating. We stayed up late watching AMC's Monsterfest programming (I believe that was its first year) and ate way too much candy.
Thank you for sharing this. It sounds like a warm and happy memory from that awesome time. Some of my favorite memories are from sleep overs with friends. Add in a night of trick or treating and you’ve got a perfect recipe. Also… love that you caught Monsterfest on its first year.
I miss the Halloween commercials, the blocks of horror movie reruns, every tv show did their annual Halloween episode and a lot of people made their own costumes. Now it’s “buy a slutty costume for $120” There was a more wholesome and festive vibe to Halloween back in the 90s that feels different now
You are right! “Back in the 90s, the Halloween spirit found you!” I was born in 1989 so most of my childhood memories of Halloween were from the mid 1990s through the early 2000’s and man was it was a fun time. There was a lot more trust and an actual sense of community back then. That’s what I miss the most. Halloween decorations were cute and cozy.. with the occasional gory limb or zombie. Cable television really set the mood during the month of October. Halloween commercials & specials were creative! Good thing we have TH-cam which is our closest solution to a Time machine! Happy Halloween everyone 🎃
Halloween will always be one of my favorite holidays. Whether you were trick or treating as a kid or decorating and scaring as an adult. It felt like it was a holiday for all ages. My favorite memory was watching hocus pocus or other shows and movies with Halloween themes; while also dressing up. As an adult I do a Halloween themed karate classes and watch some Halloween themed movies with the Mrs. 😁 Anywho, there isn’t as much charm or passion for it like there used to be. Honestly pretty sad. Enjoy what you can when October comes by though. PS. Home Depot is a good place for some cool Halloween decorations. Just ignore the Christmas stuff down the hall. 👀
Halloween karate class sounds very inventive! Good job brining the holiday to the world in a creative way. It’s funny, I never even thought of Home Depot when I was deciding which places to go. Will check it out. Any good recommendations for Halloween themed movies?
I remember a lot of these things from the 90s, especially Eerie, Indiana! You bring up a good point that Halloween found us back then, which made it more fun to be apart of it and was more communal. There was an excitement around the entire night and all the movies to watch during that time. We still have a excitement around Halloween but it takes more effort to look for it.
I could not agree more. Times have definitely changed. Halloween does not get a fair shake like it used to. Christmas decorations are already on display, for crying out loud! I was watching TV the other day and noticed that there was not one Halloween commercial. So sad. I love Halloween. Great video!
@ScottyDunn absolutely! I completely agree your statements made in your video man if feels like the holidays are absolutely gone these days unless you go out of your way and find them in select stores. If only there was a channel that was saved original broadcasts from the late 90s and early 00s that we could re watch or at least show our kids so they can have some of that fun family friendly experience too
I wonder if the networks still have those full broadcasts locked away somewhere. That would be great to get a hold of and, like you said, at least show our kids what it was like. Hell, even just for us relive it and enjoy.
We weren’t allowed to celebrate Halloween for religious reasons but my parents always got us candy and I loved staying up watching all of the classic episodes. Most Halloween episodes were usually about going to a costume petty but the best episodes were the ones that were unique like the Boy Meets World, Family Matters & the Suite Life episode which isn’t from the 90’s but close enough lol
There’s something special about eating candy and watching those Halloween specials when you’re a kid. I loved the Boy Meets World and Family Matters Halloween specials. Stevil and Carlsbad puppets were great! And Boy meets world episode where it’s a slasher vibe at the school. Good stuff.
3:41 bro that Batman costume was 🔥compared to the kids in my school/ neighborhood had😬. It came out in the early 90’s , used to be on every year , I think it stopped by the late 90’s. It seems like no one knows what I’m talking about, but it’s on TH-cam 😊
Hey thank you! I freakin loved that Batman costume. Believe it or not, I only saw Ernest Scared Stupid a couple years ago. It’s got amazing 90’s Halloween vibes! And I had to look up The Last Halloween. Never heard of it before. I need to investigate further 🤔 thanks for mentioning that that.

@ 06:02 Eerie Indiana is one of those TV shows from the early 90s that rarely gets mentioned by people a few decades later. It was pushed far back into the shadows by the popularity of shows like Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark. It's hardly included on compilations on Nostalgic Compilation vlogs of memorable 1990s horror shows made for kids. I don't see any home media releases for this show and it doesn't seem to be available on streaming platforms. One of my favorite episodes from this show was the one with the Tupperware products that enchants the town's people's minds.
So true. I love the Tupperware episode too. Probably my favorite. Also like the one where the kid can hear what dogs are saying. Supremely underrated series. I bought the series on Amazon digital earlier this year. I’ve never seen any physical media for it either which is dumb.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your comments 👻🎃 also appreciate the book recommendations and info about Vala’s pumpkin patch. We need 2 months of Halloween everywhere
9:15 I have that book Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark on the kitchen table right now! (It is from the library) o My elder brother bought a copy of the book from a Scholastic BooK Fair in the 80s!
I accidentally came across your channel by looking up the IMDB of Kickin’ It, specifically the episodes you are in because they are a few of my favorites! It is still one of my shows of choice to put on while working on my studies. I am glad I stumbled across your platform because it seems you’re as big of a nerd as I am!
Does my heart good to hear this. Thanks for coming by. It’s fun nerding out on here! Good to hear you’re just as entrenched in this kind of stuff as I am.
Michael’s does have a HUGE selection of Halloween, it’s more decor type stuff, but you’re much too late in the season for that store. They start putting out the Halloween in July so it’s pretty picked over now. I ALSO have all 3 of the Scary Stories books! I don’t have a favourite volume but I always remember that the Harold the Scarecrow story was the one that scared me the most
Yeah an associate at Michael’s said they had a lot more Halloween town decorations just the week before. I guess ppl knew to get the jump on that. Yeah Harold the Scarecrow mess a great one. I also like the one about the person who cooks meat from the cemetery. This stuff was wonderfully demented wasn’t it?
That’s good to hear. My Walmart is slacking hard. If I’m at Target anytime soon I’ll check their cereal aisle and see how it all looks. There should always be Halloween themed cereals this time of year. Gotta introduce my son to them 🥣
You showed some of the 1980's! The dunkun donuts Halloween advertisment ad and the Elvira advertisement ad were from the 1980's which was also a good Halloween decade.
Scotty, do you remember the tubes that made "spooky" noises? You tilt it and it goes weeeeee, woooooo. I never see those anymore, but they are a definite part of the Halloween spirit. You're going to talk about Gremlins and Eerie, Indiana and not mention the wonderful Joe Dante?
Are those spooky noise tubes in the shape of, almost like a pen? I remember something like that. There were also ones shaped like a can that you could turn upside down and it would make similar sounds. Joe Dante is the man! Much respect to the master.
x Vala's Pumpkin Patch in Nebraska has a two-month Halloween season, there are lots of YT videos showing what the theme park has! x Two awesome Halloween books are: It's Halloween by Jack Prelutsky and Something Queer at the Haunted School by Elizabeth Levy.
I finally watched the episode of Eerie, Indiana. Saw at the end that there's two kids that are wearing a mask of Zeebo the Clown and Michael Myers respectfully, which is also in your video at 6:37. Are there any other notable characters?
Another epic video! Yeah the 90s was amazing. I remember how much fun it was dressing up for halloween as a kid and going trick or treating. Loved watching Are you afraid of the dark and goosebumps. Some of those old episodes still hold up like the Haunted mask or ghastly grinner.
Thank you. The Haunted Mask is my favorite episode! Perfect vibes for spooky season. Also there was one episode that I Swear M Night Shyamalan got inspired by for Sixth Sense. Can’t remember the title of the episode. Another good one.
It's scary what's become of Halloween. Great video, you brought back a lot of tv memories. I'll always remember the year when it was determined I was now too old to go Trick or Treating.
You’re awesome! What a great video… makes me nostalgic for my 90’s childhood. Generally, people are more distrustful of one another than we were back then. I feel, personally, that the disconnect is more by design than we realize but we also have less shared experiences (such as radio, TV and even music). With certain political happenings looming scarier than the spirit of Halloween could compete with, we ended up with a pretty washed holiday this year. I do wonder if we can ever, as the next generation up at bat, recreate some spirit for today’s youth to draw some memories from. With less home owners of our age group and general distrust amongst the public, I hope it doesn’t happen entirely as a coping mechanism but I’ll sure take it if it does. Thanks for your trip into my happier times, bud.
Thank you for your kind words! I have hope that this spirit can return for the next generation. I’m going to personally recreate it for my kid and if enough ppl do that then it could snowball. Thanks again 🙏
Tgif was always awesome bit i really loved the halloween episodes. Couldnt wait for urkel to do something crazy. My aunt and i would watch em all. Miss those days
I was born in 1987 and I grew up in London. I never went trick-or-treating as our neighbourhood was too dangerous (or so I've been told). But as a small boy, there was at least one compensation: we would either go to a party organised by someone else or organise our own. Sometimes, there would even be fireworks! Why? Because in Britain, we're familiar with not only Halloween but also Guy Fawkes' Night (which normally takes place just five days after Halloween). The story of the latter is as follows: in 1605, Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and to this day, there are fireworks (as I've already said) and also a bonfire, and a mannequin representing Mr. Fawkes is thrown onto the fire.
Halloween was kinda banned at my school...even in the 90's. Most teachers wouldn't let you wear costumes. A few would, but masks were banned for “safety reasons”. But teachers most would tell you on October 30th to leave your costume at home. If you showed up in a costume, you BETTER have regular clothes on under it. I remember my second grade teacher who already had a short fuse and should not have been allowed to be a teacher having a complete adult temper tantrum when a girl showed up to class in a pink Power Ranger costume because she told us the day before NOT to come in costumes. By third grade, the new principal announced on the 30th that ALL kids (and even teachers) could come to school in costumes. The teacher seemed SO annoyed because she couldn’t enforce no costumes. But it was a very small Conservative town in a red state and a lot of people believed celebrating Halloween was a form of devil worship. I wonder if that had something to do with it.
Thanks for sharing this. The new principle seems like they were pretty cool. Also, it must've been fun to see that one teacher fuming after not getting her way 😆 Halloween is fun! No sense in restricting it you know?
And…. her head fell off. Still think about that story often. I absolutely love and appreciate this video! Halloween is my favorite day of the year and I wish with all of my heart we could make it be the og vibe again. It’s so sad kids these days won’t get the privilege of feeling those vibes we felt as kids.
Thank you so much! I’m happy to hear that ppl are still keeping the vibes alive in their own personal ways. I love Halloween and it’s such a fun and cozy time to celebrate and have fun. It will always be special 🎃 to us.
Was cranked back then for sure 😢. Whole neighborhoods of spooky goodness. Edit: Bought all 3 scary stories books (original artwork) 5-6 years back, 1000% worth
I remember we got it as a gift from an older kid from school and I treasured it. Dude, sometimes the sheets dyed by your mother are the most special. The memories alone make that costume of yours priceless I’m sure
Yes! There is a reason it takes so much to scare our generation. These days kids are scared of well lit empty rooms....the "backrooms". I dont get it haha.
Way less coddling for 90s kid, no doubt about it 😆 also, for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, apparently they have new versions with less scary drawings. 🤷♂️
10:08 was the cape velcro and a PJ set? Almost sure I had the exact same PJ set from sears, used to run around the house like i was superman all the time lol
Honestly halloween is dying far more quickly than id like to see. I have Halloween shirts i got at Marshalls a year or 2 ago and this year...not a SINGLE DANG HALLOWEEN SHIRT or other things related...so disgraceful...I use them for work and people would be commenting on my shirts as they like them. Christmas decor was already overshadowing Halloween in mid September. I like christmas and all but Halloween hits differently as you can express yourself differently ever year. Sad that its being forgotten about. 😞
I need to go out and get whatever Halloween shirts I can get my hands on while I can. It seems to be dying out. I know they’re still around but they used to be everywhere. Glad you have some in your collection. I trust that you won’t be getting rid of those 🎃
in my city Halloween is polarizing. i cant as fuck pay more than 20 bucks for a decoration so i don't go to big box retailers. the decorations are gone from home depot by the first of October so only diehard fans with big bank accounts can buy that junk. but it looks trashy anyway. we used to have the same old decorations. we used to just hand make them and keep them and as they aged they looked better. all you need is 5 dollars worth of candy (even the good stuff) because you're only getting less than 10 trick or treaters a night anyway (the rest is all yours muahaha). costumes were always hand made and when all else fails or you hate kids and trick or treaters, the place to be is block parties. like Hollywood i remember they close the street down and its just a mess of drunk people in wicked costumes. Weho has a huge block party crawl too where you needed to take a bus in from miles before covid. the bus was just packed with people in costumes and someone always has a flask somewhere if you're social. As an adult i can safely say Halloween is def for us. but yeah kids can always find things to do if they're not scared of felt spiders. its for them too but damn i looooove block parties in costume. i already have makeup and i buy weird clothing at goodwill by the pound. super cheap. plus so many free old Horror movies. forget the big box and that 300 dollar skeleton at spirit. you know Halloween is never corpo in my book.
The books are so good. It was hard to get a hold of ones that weren’t drastically changed (artwork wise). Yeah I saw the movie. I liked it but felt like it could’ve been even scarier. Wonder if they’ll do a sequel.
Well it was actually celebrated at the time that helped. Halloween was a month long event for everyone. Crazy stuff on TV all month, kids got into it and wanted to do more than go get candy before the sun went down, places actually did fun little events instead of just trunk or treat, oh and we didnt have aa many people offended by everything and trying to suck the fun out of everything (not just Halloween)
It's not just they used to put more effort in it, they put their "HEART" in it too, and we felt it. Those products they sold were made by people who also shared our passion for Halloween, and the same can be said for Christmas and other holidays. Yes, companies have always existed for making money, but they used to pay attention to what their costumers wanted; if they gave us something that made us happy we made them happy by buying it; that was a SYMBIOSIS. They hired people who was passionate and enthusiastic for what they sold, people who understood what clients wanted because those people were their clients before they become their employees, and that showed. Nowadays the people they hire are in the business just for the money, they don't even like the product they are supposed to sell, they hate their customers and only care to force their own woke politics in the products... AND IT SHOWS! Oh IT SHOWS!
People decorating their houses might be dying soon because of kids not going out like we traditionally did back in the days. They go trunk or treating now. that shit is killing treat or tricking.
Well, I will say it seems like the 70’s and 80’s were great for Halloween celebrations too… I love seeing the commercials and decorations from that time.
The 60s and 70s were also a great time to be a kid during Halloween. While not 100% safe (the story of razor blades in apples goes back at least that far), it was much safer than today. And kids could go trick or treating without an adult as long as they stayed in their own neighborhood.
Yeah I was looking up the Razor blade stories and it seems like an urban legend that was spreading during that time. Don’t know if it ever really happened. Hope not. Magical times though back then. To be a kid back then trick or treating without a care in the world 👌👻🎃

The bad lighting in the home video just enhances the vibe
It’s does add some good vibes 😎
I dont know where you live, but target near me has a ton of halloween cereals.
Yep another great decade for Halloween 🎃 70s - 90s 😎
Scotty, do you remember the tubes that made "spooky" noises? You tilt it and it goes weeeeee, woooooo. I never see those anymore, but they are a definite part of the Halloween spirit.
You're going to talk about Gremlins and Eerie, Indiana and not mention the wonderful Joe Dante?
Are those spooky noise tubes in the shape of, almost like a pen? I remember something like that. There were also ones shaped like a can that you could turn upside down and it would make similar sounds.
Joe Dante is the man! Much respect to the master.
@@ScottyDunn That's them!
x Vala's Pumpkin Patch in Nebraska has a two-month Halloween season, there are lots of YT videos showing what the theme park has!
x Two awesome Halloween books are: It's Halloween by Jack Prelutsky and Something Queer at the Haunted School by Elizabeth Levy.
I finally watched the episode of Eerie, Indiana. Saw at the end that there's two kids that are wearing a mask of Zeebo the Clown and Michael Myers respectfully, which is also in your video at 6:37. Are there any other notable characters?
Not that I remember but i don’t know Michael Myers didn’t register to me when I watched it recently 😮
That witch cut out… that was such an unlocked memory I not only smelled it, I think I tasted it. 😆
Yes! Those cut outs are so freakin good 🎃
As someone with Megalophbia I cannot see myself at Johnnie Brock's Party Store during the Halloween season.
Yeah it might get overwhelming for sure seeing as it’s right at the entrance.
That was my favorite episode of Eerie, Indiana!
YEAHHHH Eerie, Indiana!!
Peak Halloween was in the 1940's, change my mind...
Don’t think I can do that for you Jack
@@ScottyDunn XD
Happy Halloween! Thanks for using my clips in the beginning. 🎃
Happy Halloween Cameron! You made a great commercial man. Thank you so much 🎃
@@ScottyDunn Love the nostalgia. 03’ baby… Simpler times
Finally the TH-cam algorithm found me a page worth following..great video, got me all nostalgic..cheers
Hey thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed this.
@ScottyDunn looking forward to more brother
Well tv is dead, so as are the shows and commercials. Scary stories were there since grade school. Better times.
Yep better times.
It's scary what's become of Halloween. Great video, you brought back a lot of tv memories. I'll always remember the year when it was determined I was now too old to go Trick or Treating.
Thanks Louis. Those tv Halloween vibes make me so happy. Never too old to trick or treat! 👻
TGIF was so warm and fuzzy for me and my family too. Family matters, step by step, boy meets world… all of that stuff.
There’s a real good Nick at Nite channel that shows old Halloween episodes with the commercials.
Nice! I didn’t know any of this. Thanks for sharing 🎃
@@ScottyDunn It was one of those towns with a LOT of people who believed that Halloween was devil worship.
And…. her head fell off.
It will always be special 🎃 to us.
honestly i only came across 1 commercial that was barely a spooky themed advertisement showing a ghost that wasnt detailed as much. And that was it
They just aren’t trying these days
Your title alone earned my subscription. Happy Halloween brother, have fun🎃☠️👻
Thank you! 🎃 happy Halloween 👻
I think maybe you went to the wrong Wal-Mart. Mine has 8 aisles of Halloween stuff.
Yeah I suspect that’s true. Mine was severely lacking. It’s good to hear that other places are still going strong though.
Was cranked back then for sure 😢. Whole neighborhoods of spooky goodness.
Edit: Bought all 3 scary stories books (original artwork) 5-6 years back, 1000% worth
Yes!! OG artwork for the win. Such great books
Just got my daughter reading Scary Stories, she loves ‘Harold’ and ‘The Black Dog’.
Yes! 🙌 isn’t it awesome passing on these gems to the next generation? I’ll be doing that with my son when he gets a little older.
I remember having that cassette too
I think you’re the first to remember that cassette existing on here! Makes me happy 🎃👻
Dude that was a KILLER Batman costume from when you were a kid!! Beats the hell outta mine which was basically a sheet my mom dyed😔
I think so yes. I wore those things to dust as well 😆 Fist bump to you 👊
Honestly halloween is dying far more quickly than id like to see.
I trust that you won’t be getting rid of those 🎃
@ScottyDunn heck no. Never get rid of anything that I like. Have gameboy games still and some Yu-gi-oh cards, Naruto merch etc lol
Yes! Gotta keep that treasure trove
in my city Halloween is polarizing. i cant as fuck pay more than 20 bucks for a decoration so i don't go to big box retailers. the decorations are gone from home depot by the first of October so only diehard fans with big bank accounts can buy that junk. but it looks trashy anyway. we used to have the same old decorations. we used to just hand make them and keep them and as they aged they looked better. all you need is 5 dollars worth of candy (even the good stuff) because you're only getting less than 10 trick or treaters a night anyway (the rest is all yours muahaha). costumes were always hand made and when all else fails or you hate kids and trick or treaters, the place to be is block parties. like Hollywood i remember they close the street down and its just a mess of drunk people in wicked costumes.
Hand made costumes are the way to go. Good for the imagination and more fun to do. Block parties are fun mayhem. Thanks for sharing.
loved those books did you see the movie that came out a couple years ago?
Exactly. Trunk or treat. Talk about muted way to celebrate Halloween. No wonder kids aren’t as into it.
Yeah. Can’t sell with heart when they don’t have one.
I miss Halloween in the old days get communities involved for the kids instead of trunk or treats
100 percent. Trunk or treat is such a boring alternative to trick or treating. Gotta bring back the magic
People decorating their houses might be dying soon because of kids not going out like we traditionally did back in the days. They go trunk or treating now. that shit is killing treat or tricking.
Trunk or treat has no magic to it ☹️
But with today’s generation Hallloween has been slowly dying
Yeah. The new generation could really use a good old fashioned Halloween. It’s what the doctor ordered! 🎃
It was even better in the 1970s 🤣
Mixed
Nah. The 70s and 80s were where it maxed out. Before the razor candy scare.
To be a kid back then trick or treating without a care in the world 👌👻🎃
Dont forget the 1980's!
