  • Have you been to a march or protest and seen slogans on signs that you don't understand? Did you google it and still not understand what it meant? Because SAME. This week on the podcast Emily and Karbon take you to queer feminist history class to tell you about intersectional vs. radical feminism, TERFs and how they both relate back to the dark history of feminism and the dyke movement.

Hi my name is Grace, I am a bisexual radical feminist of colour and I would love to speak to you about Terfs and radical feminism as there are some things you got wrong regarding our views towards other kind of oppression and our views regarding trans people, I'm not sure if you've spoken to anyone from out side but I think it would be a great opportunity for both of us to understand one another.

I'm not sure if you're gonna take me up on my offer so I just want to say this, Terf is actually a slur and you saying it is like a non black person saying the n word, however I still find it great that you mentioned our great movement and would love to talk to you about other things you got wrong regarding our movement.

Hi there, thank you for your comment and expressing your view. We always encourage comments that start meaningful conversations, even if it’s in disagreement with what we say. We don’t always get every detail right, and we understand that different folks have views, beliefs and thoughts that aren’t our own. To address the Terf comment, we apologize if it felt offensive as that was not our aim in this video. However, we also don’t believe it to be like saying the n word while not being black as that is a derogatory word used against black people for having skin colour they were born with, similar (bot not the same) as calling someone a fag for being born gay. People of these minority groups reclaim these words which were once used to oppress them in order to find power within pain. Terf on the other hand is based on beliefs, values and ideology, not on how a person is born. The information that we’re sharing about radical feminism is what is widely believed and taught in post secondary institutions. With that said, as you are a self identified radical feminist we encourage and invite a conversation with you so we can better understand each other 🙂
