    Hey Cuiv. Here's how to protect your dovetail from clamping damage. A tip from us custom golf club assemblers, where we also need to protect the metal golf club heads from damage during clamping. Google "brass shim sheet" and purchase a package of these brass shims. Cheap. Will last you a lifetime. The 0.25mm or 0.125mm thickness works well. With scissors, cut rectangular strips the same size as the sides of your dovetails. Purchase a roll of double sided adhesive sellotape from any office store. This is the really thin tape, not the thick double sided tape. Attach tape to your brass shims and affix to your dovetail. Viola! Problem solved. Shims are easily removed if needed, leaving an as-new finish. You just increased your resale price by 50%. :) In principle, its the same method used by better quality eyepiece holders with the protective brass ring inside.
    Enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work.

      Hi Wayne, thanks for the tip! That's a great tip actually, thanks so much! I ended up changing the dovetail on the scope with another one that I don't mind damaging, but that is so simple yet so elegant! Thank you so much - glad you enjoy the channel, definitely making more videos all the time :D

      Another option is to replace the saddle with one that doesn't leave marks. ADM makes one that should fit: "DUAL-AZEQ5- DUAL Series Saddle." It fits SkyWatcher AZ-EQ5 and Orion Sirius AZ/EQ-G Mounts. It can can accommodate both Vixen and Losmandy style dovetail bars and it is very secure.

    This is an older video which I re-watched today. As you know you forgot to attach the counterweight before attaching the scope. The interesting thing is how many times you touched the counter weight bar before you attached the counterweight. Clearly your subconscious mind was screaming at you to notice the missing counterweight. :)

    I’ve never heard of GSS, the interface is beautiful! Please keep us updated if you continue to use it. EQmod has always worked flawlessly for me but it is not as pretty to look at 😄

    • @CuivTheLazyGeek
      @CuivTheLazyGeek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      GSS sure is pretty to look at! It also has several things that EQMOD doesn't have: DEC guiding using goto commands rather than pulses (more responsive on some mounts), and way to apply PPEC that doesn't interfere with the guiding! However, I had some very weird guiding via GSS recently, that immediately got under control once I switched back to EQMOD, so I'm a bit suspicious about GSS right now...

    • @spookydonkey2195
      @spookydonkey2195 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, hopefully they work the bugs out. I spent some time messing with PPEC when my mount was new but it seemed to make guiding worse when active. It’s not an issue for me at my FL but I would like a longer scope in the future. Do you think the go-to DEC commands would be helpful with a Star Adventurer? I’ve struggled and given up using heavyish loads on mine.

    What sort of problems are you having with cooling the camera too fast? You mention some artifacts on the sensor.

    • @CuivTheLazyGeek
      @CuivTheLazyGeek  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically some pixels going kind of dark, like a sprinkle - with always the same pattern. From what I read it is frost forming around microscopic particles on the sensor. It seems fine with the slow cooldown!

      @@CuivTheLazyGeek , that is not correct (I recommend Wikipedia for checking things and learning ), but that does not matter to what you are doing; only the number. The application lets you enter different values, so it is totally flexible when connecting to various types of equipment.
