$5 thats a bargain for NY DJ. Love a Brick Lane bagel with Salt beef mustard and pickle. Absolutely superb. Love a smoked salmon and cream cheese one as well.
I can remember as though it was yesterday, my first cinnamon bagel on my first holiday to NYC. Unfortunately it was many years ago but some things stay in your memory forever
Whe're about the same age, I have them scoop out the inside and then toast it. It actually tastes better that way and they'll actually put more cream cheese on it or whatever you're getting on it, and you'll live a lot longer too.
It was 1993 and I was on tour with the US Marine Band in NYC. Walking around the city and looking for breakfast. Hit up a street vendor and got a simply bagel with cream cheese. He cut the bagel and put a HUGE slab of cream cheese...at least an inch thick...between the two slices. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had....and only cost me $1.50...(roughly 1£ at the time).
I mean $5 for a bagel is ok if you are loan tourist. But for a family of 5 that is going to be $25 and off putting. Be better off going to a bakery buying a pack of 6 bagels, some cream cheese and it would only cost you $1 a bagel and $5 in total. That is affordable.
You are absolutely right about New York bagels 🥯 Darren when you say it's the water that makes the difference...and you picked my favourite bagel..the poppy seed one.I love mine with smoked salmon and cream cheese(oh that cream cheese...so fresh and delicious 😋). Great video Darren as always...on to the next one.
Hi Darren, Broad Nosh Bagels they look very nice. Especially your Jalapeno Cream Cheese one. And 5 dollars, not bad for New York 🎉 Thankyou Darren for this video
I love a good New York bagel. I could tell you which places to go to but in the end it doesn't matter where as they are all good! I enjoyed this video very much! OTC!
I only started liking Bagels a couple of yrs ago. I like mine toasted with cream cheese and back bacon. Jalapeño and cream cheese sounds and looks amazing.
That bagel looked tasty Although I don’t like jalapeños Something else instead for me I think the bagels you buy in England are hard That one looked soft yummy i
The bagel looked lovely and what food could be seen behind the seemed appealing as well. Totally agree life is very short, I like to eat out more than once on my days off, whether a chain or local business. Trying new things and getting out and about is a must for me.
I remember my family NY stay in 2006 near the David Letterman Theatre. The Bagel shops were amazing. Did you know they have to be up at 3am to get the bakery prepared and ready.
A bagel with cream cheese was only $2 ten years ago. I'm a New Yorker and TAL Bagels as well as Ess-A-Bagel are the best but I have never had a bad one!
DJ Around 30 years ago, i was running a small Bake of takeaway/cafe for a couple, Everything we did was from unbaked frozen dough etc, Pies pasties, rolls, sweet cakes etc, I got some samples of New York bagels in, And the owner said they wont sell, & i did agree with him at first when i baked them off, But with being a Baker by trade, A simple case of proving them like a normal yeast product transformed them into some thing like you had there ! They sold like hot cakes very quickly as nobody on the IOM had ever really had them before, So deemed a success all around, Just a footnote, The corned beef hash i had tonight with curried beans was divine !!! Lol
Maybe it's just me being old, but with the terrible exchange rates on the pound sterling atm, even $5 for a small cream cheese bagel would put me in a bad mood, let alone the other prices in NY! Gumpy old man here!
Could never see the reason why you'd make a bread bun with a hole in! Googled it and its so the dough cooks evenly.Looked tasty don't think see much of them where i live in north Yorkshire! If ever in NY I'll giveone a try😃
They do a good bagel and salt beef sandwiches in a bagel shop in Stoke Newington, North London. I love Latkes and cheesecake from the Jewish bakery where I live.
Not really into bagels. Can't remember when I last had one, maybe 20 years ago. I always love watching the food Darren eats in the intro. Quality nosh, always makes me drool and feel instantly famished. I've yet to see any of this New York fare that comes even close. Nah, you can keep it, America. British is best, for mine.
Good choice here, looks a great place. The old wives tale stuff they talk about around the water is nonsense 😂 as it always is. But definitely agree that the chewiness of the bagel makes a big difference. 👍🏻
Darren make you right you like eating out then do it those that say I get it here there are just cheap skates with no life or very little. Enjoy your food wherever you wish. 😊😊😊
Lots of seasoning on that bagel Nice cream cheese $5.00 for Manhattan? Price is about right. But, no coffee or tea? I would be choking! Had my raisin/cinnamon with cream cheese this past Sunday from my neighborhood bagel shop in one of the outside boroughs of NYC. It was great!!!
I don’t know if you have tried this Bagel shop in Fulham Road opposite Chelsea &Westminster hospital it’s called B Bagel you won’t be disappointed dj give them a try when your back in uk
"Can you get that in Marks & Spencers for a fiver?" 😂 Legend DJ, you're absolutely right mate. Please keep these food review videos coming, love watching them. OTC 📈
I cannot remember if I saw it on here, your channel or another TH-camr, but I see one of the famous bagel shops on Brick Lane in London has closed. Maybe someone can confirm that. I do love a cinnamon bagel myself with cream cheese👌
I would believe that about the water the bagels are made of. It is the same with Guinness in Ireland, it is definitely different there because of the water they use to brew it. Different places different flavours, hence it’s very hard to recreate meals and the like from holidays, the ingredients aren’t always exactly the same!
Im really enjoying your new york vlogs dj , the ridiculous negative comments i read on here are incredible if u dont like what your watching turn off and watch something else its quite simple ! I wish they'd realise nobody gives a f*** what they think , still it boosts the viewing figures😆 so theyre actually doing u a favour theyre just to dense to realise
Hiya Darren, every city, town, village, hamlet can&do claim the best of something. That or ". World Famous " Yours looked like a top notch bagel, taste I'll take your word. When the cravings for a bagel, not often, get so strong. I fly to. The Bagel Bakery in Brick Lane.. Good Nosh, fair price. Just a side step Darren. Don't get dragged down. You made some snipe comments in response to your comments about the cost of M&S. Or homemade items which some always seem to dwell on. I know and appreciate how much these views must p**s you off, but let them, writers and their comments wash over you You don't need to respond ❤Allan&Family
As US Marine for thirty years, I could never have poppy seed bagels. Story was that it would pop on a "pee test" for drugs. So we always avoided. Now that I'm retired, I can have all the poppy seeds I want. WOOHOO.
That looks like a decent bagel. About $7 CDN. Up here you can get a previously frozen dough ring that is thawed out and a glob of scream cheese for about 5 bucks CAD. I would gladly pay the 5 bucks USD for that quality bagel and cream cheese.
I’ve got an idea, why don’t you move to the Big Apple. We could have these great food vlogs for a while. So enjoying these vlogs, and I’m from New York , Brooklyn.
$5 price is fine( £3.88) for the bagel looked good and generous on the filling. How is it better than the one on Brick Lane in London? Maybe the one in London costs more. By the way, constructive criticism is ok but some will see the cost and be shocked. Maybe they don't travel much and don't eat out much either. Enjoying the content Darren you'll get comments about Thailand and the cost which is at the opposite end of the scale you'll enjoy the food I'm sure.
I don’t know why a tourist would buy a bagel with just cream cheese in it and pay that amount for it. You could just buy the bagel and the cream cheese and make it yourself in your hotel room every morning. Far cheaper and no different to what you get here. If you are a family of 5, you are spending $25 for that…it’s not good value at all.
Tbh I am not a massive bagel fan but having said that I was a little disappointed in your bagel. I was looking forward to seeing an actual NY bagel but after the weird queueing system in the shop and then after seeing the bagel I thought, Is that it? Cream cheese and jalapenos! Really, I was expecting something much more exciting with more fillings that that, also what did it taste like ? you just said doughy! Anyway sorry you didnt sell me this one and can't understand why all these people queue up for it either. Tell me what I am missing ?
I just saw your comment about bagels, well it’s hard to describe bread, they have a good taste, not sweet at all, they are chewy, and very filling,I buy a dozen at a time you get 13,I wrap individually, and freeze, then defrost cut in half, and toast.I like to eat with cream cheese, lox, and red onion,or,egg salad, tuna salad, whitefish salad, scrambled eggs, cream cheese,or jam,or both, butter is good too.My favorites are sesame,or cinnamon raisin.Bagel stores carry dozens of different flavored cream cheeses, all sorts of smoked fish,a verity of meats, you just order what you like, very few people don’t like bagels.😊
Ahhhhh bagels. New York bagels are boiled in water with a little salt then baked. Montreal bagels are boiled in honey and water then baked. After those two they are just bagels. Regular bagel are just baked. Then there are the "bagels" which are really dough rings and they sold in coffee shop chains and in plastic bags (dollar stores. supermarkets, etc. and frozen packages as well. The best NY and Montreal bagels are baked in a wood fire.
NYC water, to the surprise of many, is actually very VERY good. Many might assume, given the general state of the city, that the water would be awful. But it regularly wins blind taste tests against some of the most expensive bottled waters on the markets. So yes....a huge part of the bagels is the water. The same can be said for the pizza crust. Just WHY is NYC pizza crust so perfect? Many think it's the water.
Its like fish and chips in Whitby - so many shops anyone selling rubbish fish and chips stands no chance likewise any NY Deli doing the staples like Begels - if they do them badly they won't last the course - if something is iconic only the places selling iconic foods survive
DJ VERY NICE GREAT REVIEW LOOK SCRUMPTIOUS..CANT WAIT FOR MORE REVIEWS GREAT JOB..ALF..
Shocked & Stunned !!!
Did you step on the scales !
Yes was thinking that too!
$5 thats a bargain for NY DJ.
Love a Brick Lane bagel with Salt beef mustard and pickle. Absolutely superb.
Love a smoked salmon and cream cheese one as well.

Darren I used to work in Brick lane every Sunday I would get salt beef n mustard , it was the best
Had a bagel many times in NYC and I have to say they are the best.
Inflation over 30 years has not brought prices down...alas.
$1! Those were the days!
I love nice food, out too. But I do get the 'ump with those who take advantage and serve sub-par grub, at top prices. Cheers Darren.
you certainly don't like criticism darren!!
Be polite, and productive and I will take it all day long

My favourite bagel in NYC cream cheese with scallions😍 nom nom xxx
For those that don’t know, ‘scallions’ are known as ‘spring onions’ in the U.K.
@@heli-crewhgs5285 i am from Blackpool England😃 but when in NYC they are scallions 😆
Loved it. Definitely gonna get some bagels this weekend
Looks great! Always appreciate your reviews. If you ever get to Montreal, try their fresh wood oven bagels! Blessings!
I love a good New York bagel. I could tell you which places to go to but in the end it doesn't matter where as they are all good! I enjoyed this video very much! OTC!
That looks really good, however a few crisps inside it would make it better. 😊👍
I only started liking Bagels a couple of yrs ago. I like mine toasted with cream cheese and back bacon. Jalapeño and cream cheese sounds and looks amazing.
Another top video Darren enjoy the variety of foods you review ❤
That bagel looked tasty
Although I don’t like jalapeños
Something else instead for me

Cream cheese and smoked salmon...legend😋
Jalapeños & cream cheese sounds delicious 🥯Great review & thanks for sharing DJ 🤗🗽
Not to me, can't stand Jalapeños 🤢
Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel is really nice.

Hope all is well, take care
Great video again Darren well done mate
The bagel looked lovely and what food could be seen behind the seemed appealing as well. Totally agree life is very short, I like to eat out more than once on my days off, whether a chain or local business. Trying new things and getting out and about is a must for me.

Great video, DJ. I loved the content .I'm shocked you didn't get two😊 thanks for sharing 😊

I would have gone for smoked salmon .
Probably double the price.
Another belter! Was it a game changer though Dazza?
They do a good bagel and salt beef sandwiches in a bagel shop in Stoke Newington, North London.

@@WaferBrik the prices are outrageously high in NYC, but it's still the most diverse and the food capital of the world.
Shame you didn't have a gander at the menu online before you went DJ, looks delicious.
😃🥰🥰
Good work Darren
Good choice here, looks a great place. The old wives tale stuff they talk about around the water is nonsense 😂 as it always is. But definitely agree that the chewiness of the bagel makes a big difference. 👍🏻

Garlic bagel with garlic cream cheese and lox….hmmmmm. Keeps the vampires away!
That looked fab. I was wondering if you were going to do the $ pizza. Loved to see you eat some Italian food. Maybe visit Little Italy.
Murray’s bagels are the best 😜
I like a plain bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers.
That multiseed bagel looks amazing, that would be nice with some pastrami, mustard and salad or smoked salmon with the jalapeno cream cheese you had.
Lots of seasoning on that bagel
Nice cream cheese
$5.00 for Manhattan? Price is about right.
