$150 Luxury India Hotel Experience 🇮🇳

  • ■ INDIA, CHENNAI: I've stayed in many high end luxury hotels now over the years but few of them actually offer good value for money given their exorbitant price. Sure they are for the most part memorable and ultra luxurious but you're paying through the nose for your hotel room.
Leela Palace Hotel in Chennai was different. Although a 5 star hotel, I actually felt I got great value for the money I spent. From the breakfast buffet, to the gym, pool and other restaurants. The amenities, the service and everything at The Leela Palace was unrivalled and offered exceptional value for money.
Hence what was supposed to be a two day stay, ended up becoming a week of incredible wining and dining at the beachfront in Chennai's biggest city Tamil Nadu.

Funny thing is, the movie I took it from it was a British Commodore calling Dutch people 'pesky cheese-eaters'. But I remembered it the other way around. Only after having used the term extensively on Brits for a year did I realize I was wrong when I watched that movie again

We all know how generous and kind you are to people that show hospitality and kindness to foreigners, i assume you gave the hotel workers their fair share of tips as well. Who knows. Such a bizarre way of living from a western perspective and yet very common for them. I would like to understand that better.

Thank you for this video and showing this wonderful side of India and her amazing people. I have travelled to India on business and pleasure for the past 30 years - just about every part of this amazing land. When I tell people I am going to India, the picture they have in their head is of course of the widespread poverty and chaos in the streets. But India is a pyramid, with obviously a huge impoverished lower-class, but also with a large and quickly growing middle class and at the top with more multi-millionaires than the entire population of Canada and Australia - that is a market! And Leela, and Taj, and many other great "Make in India' brands give tourists and native Indians a truly first-class experience. I am only sorry that your video will let this bargain secret out. I hope you stay for Diwali in a major city like Delhi and Mumbai - incredible to experience!

    • @abishekraju2988
      @abishekraju2988 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well put, especially the pyramid model. The top of that pyramid is accelerating at record pace: India added more dollar millionaires in the last 3yrs than China & USA.
Also what a lot of people miss, is that the upper middle class Indians even enjoy a lifestyle not even people earning $250k-$500k experience in the west.
      - We have well mannered house staff, basically butler service. $250p/m
      - Private full time Chauffeurs $300p/m
      - Exploding restaurant & Bar scene. I can get a Instagram worthy salad or Top grade sushi or Full grilled chicken for less than $8 in most places.
      - Better than Western standard, instantaneous food delivery apps; delivered by polite English speaking agents for free.
      - Better airports than the west
      - Far better hotels and service quality than the west
      - By next year the 5 metros will be connected with Access controlled expressways
      Negatives:
      - The working class (salaried) still finds it very tough to climb up the ladder; most professional jobs start at abysmal salaries $8000 per year! So places like the US and Canada offers them a far better proposition to climb up the ladder.
      - Metros are congested. Lack of walking pavements; almost 2 generations behind Europe and USA
      - Too high property prices as a percentage of average annual income; leading to a low living standard for a large part of the salaried class

@29:36 these type of Arts were made before Islamic invasion of India. Not just in art, but in everyday life, Hindus used to live very liberal and free life. The "Conservativeness" in India which you are talking about is the result of ruthless Mughal (Mu$lim) rule in India especially in north India (from 15th century to 18th century...almost 400years) which had heavy negative impact of I$lamic repressiveness on free & open Indian Hindu society. For example, in Mu$lim rule, Hindu women were not allowed to go outside their home without covering their head & face (just like rule of current day Afghanistan under Taliban govt).

You can live in any hotel you want. Nothing is wrong with spending your own money the way you want to. The only bad taste i detected is a lot of garbage locals leave outside of their homes.

So nice to see you relax and enjoy the rewards of your years of providing us excellent CONTENT. By the way, I remember the island hotel in India that you and Ben swam towards. Wow Harald, what an incredible hotel! That was a great video! Nice bathroom and showerhead too. Beautiful bathroom view. That hotel is AMAZING! That character outside the hotel looked pretty suspicious. The flies at the tea shop are a stark contrast to the hotel. That back alley visit with the people living in the tent was simply great! The walk to the beach was a real experience. I would leave the salt water buffalos in peace. I hope once in my life to experience that kind of hotel luxury service. The music at the flaming pool was cool. The management team at the hotel are beyond belief in professionalism! I am ready to fly there tomorrow for that bespoke experience in the hotel. In most high end places that kind of hotel service would be a couple thousand a night. I enjoyed the bonus deleted India scenes. Simply a great video Harald!

It is a little known fact that Norway has given Great Britain a Christmas tree every year since the second world war in gratitude for their help in repelling the "pesky" Germans. The tree is erected in Trafalgar square in London. So yes not only do the Norwegians and the Britts have a similar sense of humour they also have have a deeper bond.

The only thing i dont understand is why those millionaires who build the hotel near that poor community, dont help them to improve their lives...helping them to have garbage collection system to clean and organize their communities, also bring them better homes to those families with kids, and schools etc...is sad to see human beings living in so deep poverty and unhealthy conditions

Harold, you have created a very unique life for yourself. Such a singular experience of interaction. My preferred travel is alone. Travel companions can insulate one from interaction with the people you find yourself among. A travelling cocoon is always with you. Having said that I will now counter that. I have thoroughly enjoyed the travel you have done with Mr Bald. The interaction between you guys is playful and mischievous, but never degrading toward others. You have a fearsome independice but are fare to those you interact with. I do enjoy your roaming meandering experiences. You have created vicarious moments.

    1. the shot outside the restaurant with the beveled glass reflecting the fountain was devine. 2. Adding a little sea salt to the bath can stimulate circulation, ease muscle cramps, help relieve stiffness in joints, aid with arthritis or back pain, and soothe achy, overworked legs and feet. Plus sea salt helps cleanse and detoxify the largest organ in the body-your skin.
