Welcome to Eva's world.
She passed from cancer in 1996 at age 33.
You might love her Autumn Leaves, Time After Time, Fields Of Gold, Nightbird, Stormy Monday, Tall Trees in Georgia etc.
Some of those are at the same venue, Blues Alley, and those are my favorites.
Her music lives on.
Thank you for enjoying and commenting.
Sorry to hear she passed from cancer terrible disease took my baby sister
@karenmoldenhauer1421
I am so very sorry about your sister.
I think that every family has been touched by this scourge.
My sympathies to you.
The original is from Wizard of Oz. All the rest are covers. This is the best imo.
Without a doubt, this is the most powerful emotional version of this song that has ever been recorded. She truly understands what this song means. I’m not ashamed to say I cry every time I listen to it.
There has not been, nor ever will be another Eva Cassidy.
A true original and her music will live on forever.
Gone much too soon and the world is less bright because of that.
....though Heaven may very well be just a little bit brighter now that Eva has left this world.
Eva is in a league of her own. One of the greatest singers ever!
People in the Washington DC area adored her. It is so sad that she died so young, She created so much beautiful music
Her cover of Autumn Leaves is a must. Once you get to Stormy Monday, it'll throw you in a spin. This lady is a blues man that you never saw coming
EVA IS BEUTIFUL.... JUDY GARLAND SANG THIS IN 1939 IN THE MOVIE WIZARD OF OZ.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT TODAY KIDS HAVEN'T WATCHED THIS MOVIE IS TIMELESS. JUDY GARLAND WAS ALSO GONE TO SOON.. BLESS ALL..✨️✨️✨️
I like Eva's version much better than the original! ❤❤❤
My absolute favorite version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow! I've been listening for years, and it's just as wonderful as the first time I ever heard it!
I LOVE YOUR REACTION!😀
Glad you enjoy it!
Eva Cassidy was simply magical. Highly recommend Songbird for your next one. It’s a highly emotive song for me. My late Mum loved the song and rightly so, it’s beautiful.
Forever Eva’s song❤️
You don't just hear Eva sing. You feel it.❤
The Original is from Judy Garland in the Movie Wizard of Oz. The Hawaiin guy was just a cover. This is the best cover and in a way better than the original. The vibe Judy's iconic version gave it was basically a young girl singing in a bit of frustration looking to escape and hoping to find a better place. The vibe Eva gives it is a haunting one that stirs up extreme emotion whether it be hope, the loss of a loved one or just reflection in a personal sense to any individual listening. Her interpretation on the guitar is brilliant and is such a compliment to every line she sings. For some, this version has more people in tears than almost any other song written.
Eva Cassidy sings this as a grown woman with a sad past. Judy Garland's version in the film is of a little girl hoping for good times.
When Judy Garland sang it originally it was cute and upbeat. Eva Cassidy turns it into such a sad song with meaning.
I think I am the one who directed you to Eva and I knew you would love it. She is my second favorite after Lara, it’s a fan of Lara who introduced me to her 3 years ago.
Eva completely reinvented this classic from Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz (1939) and it became the reference for the new generation.
This recording was made early January 1996 in Blues Alley, DC area. 5 month later, Eva was diagnosed with terminal skin cancer and by November she was gone.
She was only discovered 5 years later when this song was played on the BBC in UK.
But it was a tsunami: people callling, wanting to hear more, …
She had many recordings to be disclosed: Ballads, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, …
The records released all reached #1 and more than 10 millions were sold.
I recommend next: Autumn Leaves, Nightbird, Fieds of Gold, Blues in the Night, Imagine, Time after time, Stormy Monday, Songbird, …
Thanks for introducing another reactor to Eva Eric.
Best wishes from Scotland
It never struck me before, but I think the place she sings about "over the rainbow" is Heaven. Angels must have smiled to hear her voice.
And then they said "that's so good we want you to come up here and sing that for eternity" and they took her soon after.
Beautiful ...first time i have heard her version. so soulful...best version ever. Loved your reaction.
Wow, thank you!
One of the best voices to ever sing a song.
She takes a simple little tune and makes it a masterpiece.
Over the Rainbow was written for the movie Wizard of OZ and sung by Judy Garland in 1938. You need to see version of Danny Boy and Stings Fields of Gold. You will love them. Her voice is unique and special. She died at the young age of 33 (I think) which was about 10 months after this song was sung by her
Go to the original, Judy Garland, sang it in the Movie “The Wizard of oz”.
The "Hawaiian Dude" was Izzy. But I can't spell his last name.
I found him Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole
All her songs are really great. A virtually unknown artist until about 2 years after she died from cancer at the age of 33, in 1996. She was known in Washington DC where she preformed this and other classic covers in the local blues and jazz clubs.
She gained fame when camcorder tapes like this were released in England about two years later. She has mega reactions to this and other songs out there now. You must react to more of her songs. You will be blown away with her singing and guitar playing. Just one of the very best artists ever.
RIP Eva. She didn't know it at the time but she had a melanoma and died 10 months later. Song is even sadder when you know this.
She did know it. She had battled melanoma about 2 years before. See her family's website
@@DWilliams-ce8nb Yes, but at the time she sang this she didn't know it had returned.
Which is why this recording is the one of Eva singing it.
It’s the only recording of her singing this
Originally sang by Judy Garland in the movie The Wisard of Oz. 1939.
3/22/24 It's E-va. Judy Garland sang this song first in the Wizard of Oz. Eva has a story. She was once a hot walker for racehorses. But singing was her passion. She covered Fleetwood Mac's song called Songbird and named the album Songbird. Eva's version of the song inspired thoroughbred racehorse owner, Rick Porter to name his now famous filly, Songbird. He was fighting cancer as was Eva. Sadly, they both passed from cancer. His filly, Songbird went on to become one of the most winning female racehorses of all time.
It's pronounced "Eee-vah" and she's phenomenal.
Another reaction you might want to consider is Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U", written by Prince.
Her official music video is good, don't get me wrong. But the live version will blow you away.
RIP Sinead.
There was never another like Judy Garland, and there will never be another like Eva Cassidy. Do try to listen to Eva's album "Songbird", especially the song "Field of Dreams". 🙂
Judy Garland was the original singer from the Wizard of Oz movie way back. Listen to the original than listen to Eva’s again. Eva’s is the best cover ever. ❤
There are many recordings of her that came out after she passed in several genres that all will blow you away.
Yes this is from The Wizard of Oz, but to listen to Eva was just sensational. So young when she died from cancer. What a beautiful & pretty singer she was. Magnificent to listen to. RIP Eva 💔
You must be thinking about Izzy K.(can't spell his last name) His cover playing the ukulele was lovely as well. Sadly, like Eva, he left this world way too soon. Judy Garland was the original singer from the 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz. RIP to all of them.
every one is blown away by Eva and if you want more listen to her doing stormy Monday
Love Eva! The original was sung by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz. ✌️
Judy Garland first recorded “Over the Rainbow” on the MGM soundstages on October 7, 1938
I was introduced to Eva's music a few years ago. She was fantastic. So sad that we lost her so young.
Eva and this song, yes it makes me want to hear again too. Great reaction.
Love her song
This is (in my opinion, of course) the best rendition of a timeless classic. May Eva rest in peace.
Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. His cover of this song was brilliant also.
thanks Kris
NIGHTBIRD IS GORGEOUS. BEYOND GORRGEOUS!
Eva also does a unique beautiful version of ( wade in the water...)
Terry Wogan helped to make her popular by playing her songs
Absolutely mesmerizing interpretation of this song.
The song written in 1939 for the movie The Wizzard Of Oz and sung originally by the star of the movie, Judy Garland.
But most of all I believe God who blessed this child with her talents meant for her to present her interpretation to be deeply felt for today's very confused feelings about our existance and actually gives us hope that we all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ will in fact some day soon be flying over that Rainbow ( a symbol God placed in the sky to let us know He would not destroy mankind again) to meet Himm in the Clouds at the Rapture of His Church. This is a theme that is nye apon us as we are entering the Biblical End Times Prophecies.
Eva passed away at the young age of 33 from melanoma cancer back in 1996. As the scripture says: The Dead in Christ shall rise first and them those still living shall rise to meet Him in the sky, so Eva shall be one of the first to rise Over That Rainbow to meet Him in the Sky, Amen
I love all of Eva’s songs. This song Lucy Thomas recorded a tribute for Eva. It is also very good. It’s a shame that Eva passed away so early.
She originally just sang with a band, and had only recently begun learning guitar when she did this performance at Blues Alley, and finger style is not an easy technique either.
This performance brings me to tears every damn time I hear it dude. So sad, sweet, subtle.
Bruddah IZ also has a beautiful rendition and that is who you are remembering.
Record deal wanted her to keep singing covers she didn't want to, cancer now amazing memories
The world is a crazy please ❤
Gosh, IZ and Eva’s covers are neck and neck with me, in different ways! Stunning performance from Eva, slower and emotional, amazing IZ upbeat and smooth. Not gonna choose. My ears love both!
Transcendent! Right out of heaven. A truly great work of art. A gift to humanity.
Rip eva cassidy
The song is way way older than the Hawaiian guy. Written in 1939 for the movie The Wizzard Of Oz and sung by Judy Garland who starred in the movie.
It’s eeeva! Sadly she passed away much too young, she died 9 months after this performance of melanoma.
Judy Garland from the Wizard of Oz, then the Hawaiian dude many people have done rendition of this, but this person Cassidy has the best transition I've ever heard in the entire world
Yes, the late great Israel sang this, and I haven't heard rainbow sang better since, loved Issy's voice sooooo much👌🥰😌, however, this is just beautiful too 👌.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This girl who is gone too soon would have been a global star😢❤❤❤❤
She owns this song since.
My favorite of hers is Autumn Leave. Perfection.
Amazing, isn`t she. Another great female singer is Joni Mitchell, my favorite song is . A Case of you -.
RIP SWEET SONG BIRD 😢
A beautiful singer...Peace🤙☝️😌
Lovely Eva passed away a couple of months after this 😓😢
🙏🙏🙏
I think about 10 months later. I don't think she knew her melanoma was returning when she recorded these songs at Blues Alley
She told the story without pictures.
Her guitar playing is as good as her singing.
E-VA rhymes with Diva, which she was not.
Judy Garland from Wizard of Oz was the original, IZ from Hawaii WAS my favorite until I heard this.
This is the best cover of the original classic song by Judy Garland from The Wizard of Oz, you need to react to the original
The original's a let-down after this.
Judy Garland sang the original in the Wizard of Oz in 1938.
You are not stupid my friend ❤
Please react to another video /song of Eva. Fields of Gold would be a good choice. She had so many lovely songs
Judy garlin 1938 Wizzard of Oz
I guess you need to react to Judy Garlamd singing it from the movie...
Ummm you never saw " The Wizard of Oz " that was a movie on TV every year for the last 60 years at least
Autumn leaves, please!
Go back to Judy Garland for historic reference. See "The Wizard Of Oz" clip.
I love all the versions of this song... but Judy breaks my heart still 😞
You're thinking of IZZY! EVA left us too soon !❤😢
Eva not Ava
Dorothy from the wizard of Oz
Now go listen to 16 year old Judy Garland's original version from the actual movie the Wizard of Oz, 1939
I believe it is Eva not Ava.
Play it through once then come back and make comments you're interrupting the whole beauty and passion of the song
You can't do that there's a law where you have to add value to the content on someone's work as a reactor.
Other than Judy Garland, Eva Cassidy is the only person to ever do this song justice. This is almost sacrilegious, but in many ways I prefer Eva's version to Judy's.
Please don't call yourself 'stupid', only evil people are stupid...
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Israel the big Hawaiian guy did this best. Eva is a close 2nd.
