Why is Belgium French much easier to understand than Metropolitan French? I'm amazed.
I believe that Belgian French has more Germanic influences, so if you’re a native English speakers then it might be easier to understand
Parce que on est plus directe et que surtout ils font exprès de parler au ralenti pour que tout le monde comprenne... on pense aux autres...
Belgian (and Swiss) numbers are definitely much easier, with septante (70) and nonante (90).

5:31 les liégeois l'appellent l'aquarium, mais c'est en fait l'institut de zoologie de Liège. Le bâtiment date de 1888.
Le bâtiment regroupe les musées suivants :
Aquarium-Muséum, musée de zoologie de Liège,Maison de la science (très sympa avec les plus petits), Espaces botaniques universitaires de Liège
À l'intérieur, il y a un immense tableau / fresque du peintre belge, Paul Delvaux (plus connu pour ses représentations ferroviaires- liées aux trains)

5:02 Le nom de Chiroux est d'origine wallonne. C'est une francisation de tchirou « bergeronnette grise » ou "hirondelle des fenêtres ». C'était également une faction qui se battait contre les Grignoux.
J'ai fait un voyage dans la región et c'était très interessant faire une comparaison des trois villes de Liège, Maastricht et Aachen, Tous les trois très près entre eux

Il y a l'accent, un peu la prononciation et quelques mots
Par exemple en Belgique ils disent pas "quatre-vingt-dix" mais "nonante"
No hay mucha diferencia. Menos que entre el español peninsular y el castellano de Argentina, por ejemplo.

Oh bless them both, especially the lovely bloke from Liege who was doing his utmost to sell his city to us but, alas, not even the most enthusiastic proponent of the place can disguise the fact that Liege is quite possibly one of the greyist, grimmest looking cities anywhere. The people are nice, as I recall, but nothing redeems the city aesthetically; only Le Havre, possibly, supersedes it for ugliness.
It was a really beautiful city in the past. But the Industrial revolution, the two world wars and the urbanistic horrors of the 1960s and 70s have damaged it really hard.

Same fate befell countless, mainly North European, cities: Plymouth, Portsmouth, Brest, Southampton, Le Havre, Calais, Dunkirk, Rotterdam, yes, Liege, Orleans, Hamburg, Cologne, Warsaw … the list, alas, is endless. All of these cities, the old photographs tell us, were once quite beautiful.
@@titteryenot4524 There is still a little historical center that’s worth a visit. Didn’t you see the Palace of the prince-bishops and the streets further east with the little alleys, the Saint-Barthelemy church and the Curtius house ?
@@Leopold_van_Aubel To be honest, mate, I was 18 and at the end of an Interrail trip. Nightly roistering had hazied up my vision somewhat! Belgium as a whole, however, is mighty underrated. Brussels has large tranches of loveliness amidst the urban sprawl. Bruges, notwithstanding its deadness to all real, daily life, is splendid. Ruined by tourists, though. Antwerp and Ghent I have visited after my youthful indiscretions, and with clear eye appear quite beautiful urban spaces, on the whole. Soft spot even for wee provincial Mechelen; not much to the place, but what there is, is well worth half a day of anyone’s time. But, alas poor Liege, I knew her well, in her beautiful youth before the bullets, bombs and bulldozers got her …
@@Leopold_van_Aubel All this stuff, though, *really* is in the eye of the beholder, for, I have met many who wax lyrical at the post-modern ‘beauty’ of, say, Rotterdam, where all I see, with jaded eye, is an utter unlovely mess. Ditto Le Havre (actually completely redesigned by a Belgian after its wartime hammering), where some eulogise at this post-war ‘symphony in concrete’, where all I see is a grey, relentless grid of concrete hellishness (a kind of jarring, Stravinskyesque mess) that not even a sunny day can relieve. So, yeah, this beauty thing is a mighty rum subject. Maybe David Hume and the Empiricists were right, after all, and these ‘standards’ we have of what is beautiful and what is not are just made up, like much else, as we go along. As a relentlessly non-empiricist, William Blake, once said: ‘A fool sees not the same tree as a wise man sees.’
