As a foriegner obsessed with s'porean culture,media etc. I didnt expect capitalistic s'pore where ppl are competing to be rich,competing regarding symbols of statuses(VVB "lousy school")
wud actually have strongly knit families,and filial piety. Interesting to see.
No offense if my comment sounded harsh,my english isnt gud enuf to express ideas.
Imo symbols of statuses may divide people,since they define "that person owns mercedes,or talks half english half chinese so person is from a different class,different from us"

but yeah s'poreans in general feel humble so far. Imo NS(military conscription) makes everyone regardless of "class" have a common experience,so it unites ppl regardless of class.
