We erroneously put the album art for Cadavoracity's 'Vitiosus Forma Exilum' in place of Chalera's 'Theophobium Excruciation' at 18:57. Please check out that killer album (with appropriately evil artwork) here: chalerabdm.bandcamp.com/album/theophobium-excruciation

Hi, I'm from Rotten Corpse, thanks for your appreciation mate!. I think we are not skipping the proto or straight up death metal. There was a lot of band before Rotten Corpse played that stuff, but apparently they are not recorded as an album. As far as I konow there was a lot of demo tape on air in the radio during 1991 to 1995. Thanks. Cheersssss \m/

I haven't pressed play yet, but this is the best topic yet. I've always been super curious why Brutal Death Metal is so big in Indonesia aka why Indonesian people are so damn cool.

Death Metal itself is actually the mainstream of metal genre in Indonesia with the largest community and so many local events. It's part of the culture

I mostly find extreme metal bands in Indonesia and it was difficult to find classical metal band. Same for Malaysia or Brunei.

So glad brutal death is finally getting some love on this channel. Besides the old lock horns with Cannibal Cam (who seems like one of the coolest dudes of all time), there hasn't really been much attention paid to it. Great picks too, Brad. I would have been pissed if Spiritual Awakening didn't make the list. Possibly in my top 10 brutal death metal albums of all time. And excellent shout-outs/references! No one else on the Banger team could have made a better video about this. Also super dope that the local expert was the vocalist of Cadavoracity. They're excellent. Well done!

There's an episode in season 1 about South African brutal death.
...Although really, it's more an episode about Vulvodinya because the leader of that band seems to be in like 80% of all SA brutal death bands
Would love an episode on Japanese brutal death though, because that scene is huge. The Japanese metal scene in general is huge, and every style could have a Japanese episode, but that brutal death scene is really important and Vomit Remnants is one of my favorite brutal death bands!

I can tell a band is from Indonesia right off the bat when it comes to their riff and drumming, literally overall writing. I feel like the Indonesia dont get enough appreciation when it comes to BDM

Thanks Brad and BangerTV! Here in the Ujungberung region of my town Bandung, brutal death metal is everywhere! And yes I agree, we love Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh, and Disgorge. Maybe that's why their "flavor" is reflected on our brutal death metal releases. Cheers guys!

The music traveled because you could walk into a store and buy plenty of those albums legitimately on tape. Cheaply too; when I was here for holidays, I would buy up to 20 at a time. They cost about US$1.50 back then, in the late 80s/early 90s. Pirated tapes were cheaper. I was also offered a small island off the coast of Jakarta a few years ago for about $5k, though not sure about the legality involved, not to mention the cost of upkeep.

Ok, why is Brain Ass the best band name I've ever heard?
"Dearth" means "lack of", not 'abundance', which is I think what you intended to say here. Only Blayne makes an Overkill global focusing on a scene with a dearth of bands ;)

I don't know why death metal was so popular in Indonesia. Ridwan Kamil, governor of west java said more than 200 death metal bands came from Bandung. But as Indonesian metalhead, I'm sad. Because only a few band reached mainstream success 😥

    • @Nobody-yp9ri
      @Nobody-yp9ri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah dude sucks to know only few band reach mainstream succes.
You know what, because our (that-people-so called) "Metalhead" only care about popular band like Deadsquad, Burgerkill etc.
Never tired to remind people: if you really love your local scene please buy their CDs and merchs.
People tend to buy some popular stuff yet rather than support emerging talent.

1990s was also the time when Indonesian tried to refresh the political system. The right wing market-ism regime granted the music industry so that people could get the music from the West, and the willingness against corruption and oppression brought out the creativeness and brutality of their music. So here you are, Indonesian great indie music.
