Thank you so much! I have sensory anxiety, but I love fish so much. This allows me to coexist with my fish in peace in my room and know their tank is getting filtered.
I was not aware HOB filters were noisy new! Good to know they get quiet after they build up some sludge in the pump. I have returned 3 filters due to the noisiness. I'll be patient with my new Fluval Aquaclear
how long did it take to settle down? i bought my first ever filter from the pet store and i hate how noisy it is. Want to get a replacement but do they settle down over time?
I agree, my sponge filter is much quieter and the air pump is forgettable. The hang-on-back filter are quiet to an extent, when the flow of water is on the max. When the flow is slower it sounds like someone pissing non-stop. I don't have a problem with the motor nor the impeller, it's as subtle as the air pump. The water cascading down the spout is what bugs me.
I had a high pitched whining noise coming from my daughter's brand new Polar Aurora 525 gallon canister filter after setup after a few hours. Shaking and tipping it (releasing air) would fix it for an hour then the high pitched whining noise would return. Turns out the outflow nozzle tube was too restrictive and causing back-pressure on the pump. Drilling out the holes to a larger size (increasing flow) eliminated the noise permanently.
I have an Aquaclear 110 for my 55. It's a beast! A little louder than I like, but it's brand new. Thanks for your video. I'll give it a few weeks to see if the noise dies down a little bit.
I wouldn't really say sponge filters are quiet because they run on air pumps. Air pumps are so loud they sound like a helicopter landing, at least in my experience.
Put a sponge under your hang on the back outflow , you can glue it on your glasd. Extra filterd water, and no waterfall noise. Sponge just a lil in the water
i bought an aquaclear 20 and found no problems muffling the sound of the water, but my aquarium is pretty close to my bed and I’ve found the vibrations against the glass are unbearable! i put pieces of foam on every surface the filter touches the aquarium but it still makes a lot of noise and doesn’t let me sleep at night, any tips?? I love having my fish tank in my room but the noise makes me wanna rip my ears off 😬
The filter I got with my 5 gallon tank was fine at first, but now it’s SO LOUD- I just got a fish (it’s a double tail betta) and everything is fine but the filter is so annoying-
I have a 4 gallon tank with a Beta. It came with a hang on the back Tetra filter I don't mind the water noise and keep the level high under where the water comes out but there is this constant bubbling sound and some other annoying noise. I've been using the small cartrige filters and when I change them, it does start to sound a little better but only temporarily so I think I am going to try and use sponge instead. I saw an Internal Filter on Amazon and thinking mabey that would be better. Not sure what to do
I use a round media sponge..cut a slit through it then hook on the filter where the flow is coming..it will quiet the filter and help with strong currents.....I have bettas and they don't like strong currents.
I have a internal 2500lph filter, can you please advise on how I quiet it as it’s so powerful that it creates a loud humming that vibrates my entire living room, also it’s so strong it creates a whirlpool at the opposite end of my tank,is there any kind of baffles that I can make to calm that flow down, right now Im petrified to put any kind of fish in it as they’d exhaust themselves to death trying to swim in that current! or should I just concede and buy a lower lph filter 😔🤔 The tank is 225litres if that helps. Thanks for another awesome video,I loved the one you did on feeding too!
Sorry but I really don't agree with that. My fluval C2 or my fluval 206 are way more silent than the sponge filters. Sponge filters make the bubbling noise of the air reaching the surface even if you use an air stone and despite of that, you really need to use a very very silent air pump (like Hipumps). My C2 is dead silent but you need to raise the water level so that water enters smoothly into the tank (outlet of filter should be underwater so that there is no cascade but just a smooth surface water flow).
What if i have a flowerhorn? How do i make the outlet quiet? Its basically like a waterfall rn. Water is very loud. I have his water level lower than the outlet so that he wont hit his big head everytime he jumps. I have the marineland 360
@@don_cruzen4079 No idea buddy. I don't have that filter but usually externals are almost silent. Check for trapped air by rocking it, or change the lily pipes.
I have a 46 litre sparkling gourami tank set up...I, having troubles finding an appropriate “quiet” filter that is of low/medium strength with adjustable flow (as sparklings do not like too much water agitation n flow so adjustable flow switch is good to have). Yet I want it to have a decent space for some sponge/filter medium etc. I only have water level filled to approx 25 cm height atm as they have been spawning and have fry now. Plus the second hand tank I’m using has quite a large built in filter compartment at centre rear which I’m not using (no original pump etc came with it as I bought just the tank only with no lid either). I cannot fill tank up past the inlet/outlet slots as my sparklings and the teeny fry will get thru. I may consider removing the filter compartment completely sme time down track which will give more room in tank. Anyhoo.. back to silent pump/filters......I need something not too tall and very quiet as the tanks in my bedroom. I’m using a Kmart $9 el cheapo one atm but it’s not gonna stay in there...I did score another second hand pump a bit more powerful and infact quite decent but it’s noisey...sounds kinda rattley if u get my drift...it looks rarely new to be honest and I did mention to the guy o bought it off from Gumtree Sales site that it’s noisy..he just said make sure it’s fully submerged...bahhhhh...still noisy. What’s ur thoughts...I know diff pumps will be available to me as to the ones u can get but anyhoo....Lisa in west Australia... Going crazy trying to sort out pumps n filters n heaters n friggin everything....plus fish and keeping my dying p,ants alive..arhgggggg
I enjoy your video;very informative.I purchased new Marineland 75 gallon majesty tank and stand the other day and looking for good filter for that tank.I like to use sponge filter but which options are better do you think; option A; 2 sponge filter on both end of the tank option B:1 sponge filter on one side and Aqua clear 110 combination. Also, I saw someone says media bag tends to float and needed something to keep it float (lift things up) as well.Other than slow the flow, what do you recommend to try to keep it from floating/lifting things up? Aquar clear fit to Marineland majesty tank? Thank you.
Does this hold up 4 years later? I picked up a aqua-tech 20-40g hanging filter for my 30 gallon fresh water aquarium. And the motor is kinda loud. Maybe it’ll quiet down after a few weeks. 😭. Idk if I can wait a few weeks. It’s been about a week already. I’m just getting back into the hobby after 10 years. And found out today moss balls are illegal! Lol. A lot has changed
Sponge filters are not the quietest as they require a effing noisy air pump will be drive you crazy, better is to use a hang on the back with a ramp or put a sponge to bridge the gap between the fall and your water level.
Making me feel so dumb brother, are you trying to tell me that I could’ve gotten rid of my 70 gallon aqua clear and just keep that filter because I have both of them Ronica just to make sure that my fish is gone die in the water doesn’t get too dirty. I have a lot of plants I have a lot of snails. I have a lot of bottom feeders, and I have lotta guppies blue tetras and just one platy and one dwarf. Would it be OK to just use the 75 gallon sponge air pump?
I got an aqua tech filter today bc my motor in my other one broke so I had to rush to walmart and didnt have good options. On the box it says "untra quiet". This girl is loud af and idk what to do its driving me crazy bc it's in my bedroom and I cant move it is there anything to do immediately?
i just got a fish tank kit and the tetra 2-10 filter it came with is pretty loud no one really has any help full tips on how to fix this besides buying a new one is what i have came too until u say something about how it takes awhile for them to quiet down because they need some good old wear and tear this makes me feel a bit less concerned but still a lil worried for this fish i hope it doesn't bother them.
I love the aquaclear i have a 70 and 110 but theyre not that quiet. There is a constant clicking/rattling sound coming from the impeller. Ive seen people use vaseline to “fix” it but ive not had much luck. Ive taken it apart and the impeller “lags” every couple seconds and thats what seems to cause most of the sound. Im not sure how to fix this. If anyone knows how to fix this issue or has any suggestions please let me know.
I just bought an Aquaclear 110 and the damn thing rattles like crazy! The rattling is obviously coming from motor/impeller assembly. I even exchanged the filter for a new one and it's still rattling. What gives? I had the AC 20-30-40-50 and 70 and they were always super silent. I am really annoyed about the rattling.
Update... I bought a Tidal 110 and am super fking happy about it. it is very quiet compared to the AC110. Hands down better built also. IMO Tidal wins this 110 battle. AC20-30-50-70 is amazing but in the large HOB filter Seachem wins this no contest.
eyeonlife My Aquaclear 50 also rattled like fucking crazy. After a month of battling with it and the noise only getting worse I replaced it with a Tidal 55 and I haven't looked back. Wish I'd just started with the Tidal...
Thanks. Just set up another 10 gal with an aqueon "quiet flow" pfft. I've got one in my other tank and it's way more quiet than this but it took a few weeks and additions. Was kinda pissed today this new one is loud lol. But you reminded me it takes a few weeks to build up gunk. Derrr.
Thanks for doing this. This is really helpful information. After hours of research, I found that you have the best advise. Thank you again.
